Big shipment of PS4 at Target today?

Apparently they got in a shipment and 24 were walk-ins. Two days later they had 23. He said when I asked that pre-orders had dropped off after Christmas. You could also order from a second shipment coming on Dec 20. Plus a friend of mine got talked into a PS4 by staff at the Westfield Mall. So they're hardly all spoken for in the months to come.

I believe you. Every place is different, and there are localized instances where a product may not sell as well as everywhere else. Probably was just a bit exaggerated with the "begging" line :p

Well if they had what looks like 66+ and they're down to 23, demand hasn't fallen off a cliff at all.

I like how your evidence is guessing the number if jelly beans in the jar. They said they had 12 pre-orders when I asked. So 12 + 24 = 36.

Anyway, I'll call around in just over an hour to find out what the deal is.

He's not guessing. Each box says QTY 3 on it. Therefore, count the number of boxes opened or closed, and times by 3. There may be even more boxes not pictured in that photo either, as some are barely in frame as it is.

Yeah, there are definitely more than 60 Ps4 consoles in that picture...

Pretty easy to count.
I also count 22 boxes.

Even then it's 14 x 3 = 42. It's fairly possible they got more pre-orders from when I asked if people knew stock was coming in. Hell, they asked me when I originally enquired on Tuesday.

But for people getting salty, I'm sorry but if I can casually walk in and buy one, that's a huge drop in demand. Especially when EB Games said it was looking like it would be sold out Autumn.

What remains to be seen is if it was just one store or if Wellington in general was overstocked.

Im still slightly mad that my order came in one of those boxes.

I dont live in the type of area you advertise you just bought a PS4, if you know what I mean.

But for people getting salty

Yep, no agenda here folks.

Huge drop in demand judging by one store?

Ok.

Do we have any more Neogaf posters from NZ?

.....I don't even know what to say to this, lol.

You need to get your eyes checked....

Nope. People are making some heavy assumptions every box in that picture is a PS4 box. Look at the ones in the front. They're too small. Same for the ones at the back of the picture.

But this is hair splitting. The point is that I could casually walk down with my card this morning and pick one up. All it means is that demand has been met in Wellington. It's an anecdote, which is why it was posted in the ass end of a thread about a shipment at Target.

It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. It's a small country, consoles are a luxury item, and it's after Christmas when people start servicing debts. For many people, a PS4 is two week's salary. It's not a shock at all that stock will be sitting on shelves.

There are actually at least 20 boxes with QTY 3 PS4's. Please observe closer :p

I am not salty at all. As always, truth is more important than agendas. All anyone wants is truth. I believe you, I just think you've exaggerated matters, and since you seem to keep sticking to the exaggerated version of events, people are goading you a bit.

They're PS4 boxes. CUH-1002A is the current retail PS4 model number.

So The Warhouse is open early, so I just called them. Tory St and Lyall Bay (Wellington Central) are out, but Petone has 3, Porirua 8, Johnsonville 7, and then she started mentioning Paraparauma and that's like an hour drive so I tuned out because it wasn't really applicable.

But I could easily drive 10 minutes to my choice of three locations right now. :p

Noel Lemming, Harvey Norman, JB HiFi, Dick Smith, and EB Games still to come.

EDIT: Dick Smith says in stock, but I'm not sure how that works on a store basis. http://www.dicksmith.co.nz/playstation-3/ps4-console-dsnz-yg10068

It is rather easy to see at least 19 boxes in that pics. Your choice of words make you very suspect, were you once known as specialguy? ;)

Of course there's a drop in demand, its not the holidays anymore. Still betting it has more demand than that other console.

Yeah, of course. I mentioned that in my original post. You've more or less been able to walk in and get an Xbox One since the day it launched. It doesn't always have to be a comparative thing. It was hard to get a Wii U for a while when it launched as well. Then demand tapered off so fast that stores ended up almost giving them away. It was just an anecdote that it doesn't seem like the "Sold out until at least March" thing had any truth to it, at least not in Greater Wellington.

It's a little silly not to believe him, guys.

Some places just don't have a huge demand for game consoles in general. I don't know which part of NZ he's from but perhaps that area just isn't a big market. Where I live (Southern Oregon) is sort of that way as well.

There's quite a high per-capita demand, it's just that it's a tiny country. Our largest city doesn't even have 2 million people. Greater Wellington has like 500kish.

There's no doubt the PS4 will sell better. The PS3 sold better here. The Xbox puts up a good fight but this is Sony country.

That said, there's always a point for everyone and it seems that the people who will rush out and get a PS4 because they just gotta have it has been satiated for now.

Ebgames.co.nz is preordering for January 30th but maybe preordering counts as "begging".
The possibilities that just opened by being able to pre-order again are fantastic.

Finally I can cancel my pre-orders again.

with every post you've made to back your odd point that demand for PS4 in your parts has 'dropped off a cliff'... you have basically proven that it most certainly has not. I'm in awe. LOL

The ones in the front are exactly the same as the ones at the back, do you not have perspective over in New Zealand? Or Father Ted?

It's oconnomiyaki. This is not surprising at all.

I go to the target in mundelein, il about twice a week. I'm yet to see a ps4 in stock. I have seen xb1 in stock every time since the first week of December, and sporadically see wii us in stock.

My bad, I thought you would have them as the same price as Australia.

Heh, I wish. It's still stupidly cheap though if you look at what a 500GB PS3 goes for.

Anyway, Dick Smith said that the distribution centre has them but they haven't been sent out to stores yet. They said it probably would be next week.

Harvey Norman had three.

Noel Leeming said they weren't expecting another shipment until mid-February, so no idea what's going on there.

EB was out but that's no real surprise as that's likely where a lot of people do their game shopping other than The Warehouse.

JB still have 21. The shipment was 63 so the box counters were correct.

Tempted to go down and get one, actually. I wonder if it's worth the missus rage...

Also, it was really funny to hear the stores that were sold out trying to sell me pre-orders and I was just like "Nah, I'll go down to JB HiFi." They all sounded so shocked.

I wonder what the distribution of orders were.

Went to a walmart and went to see what they had and i saw 1 xbone, 3 vitas, 2 wiiu, numerous 3ds and not a ps4 in site. The case where the xbone was in was small with everything being so low it seems that walmart just doesnt carry much of anything. Didnt see a ps3 either, it was disorganized and a whole case was empty like they were preparing to give more room to next gen.

I believed you till you said ps3 were out of stock...just kidding. I need to check walmart for my brother locally here since you can't preorder online with them.

Nice to see the XB1s still selling well. Get that next gen install base way up.

Again, I can walk into a variety of stores today and pick one up. I'm actually tempted to, I'm just trying to make sure it doesn't lead to me sleeping on the couch for a month. :p

This was a console that people were saying would be sold out here for months, possibly even a year.

Demand for the PS4 will continue to greatly exceed supply for months to come, according to retailer EB Games.

Shane Stockwell, EB Games merchandising director, told MCV that shortages will continue well into 2014.

"We are still currently taking preorders for 'early 2014', but it won’t be long before that quickly becomes 'Autumn 2014'.

"Our serious recommendation is to get a preorder down now," Stockwell continued. "We will face shortages on PS4 well into 2014. You simply will not be able to walk in a buy a PS4 for quite some time."

How could demand have "fallen off the cliff" if there are still stores that are selling preorders, and with employees that are "shocked" that its in supply anywhere.

I don't get the point of what you are trying to say in this thread. You have been pushing this narrative that PS4 demand (in your area) has dropped dramatically based purely on anecdotal evidence (some of which contradicts your claims). It may possibly be true in your area, but the fact is that worldwide this thing is still incredibly hard to find.

If the only thing you want to do is rile people in this thread up with your anecdotes you have clearly succeeded. You have pretty much ignored most other posters who have given you rational explanations on why your claims are faulty, and yet the only thing you can do is call people salty and continue going around counting every PS4 you can find in your local area and broadcast it in this thread. Someone should update that Sheldon gif..

Uhm dude. Lately people have been banned for using weasel words and then being unable to substantiate that people actually said something like PS4 being sold out for a year.

Ps4 is sold out everywhere in the world but it doesn't mean there's no shipment anymore so of course you will find a few of them in some shops around the world for short periods of time. This thread is hilarious.

uh, is this guy trying to seriously cite Wellington, New fucking Zealand as some crucial barometer of current worldwide Playstation 4 supply/demand trends? I mean, that's as insane as saying the PS2 had a mediocre library.

For people who haven't noticed yet (or rather, the only person in this thread), when a shipment arrives in a store it does not magically disappear from it so of course there'll be a period in which you'll be able to see consoles in the store, even if it's only for a day or hours.
