That's good to hear. I was really hoping the video player was responsible for the terrible IQ.
The one "downgrade" that I do think I saw in a comparison pic posted earlier was in the complexity of geometry of decorative gargoyles and other stonework near the beginning of the opening level. It was the same picture demonstrating that the gate had a totally different texture on it.
Not 100% sure, but I think he looped back to the first bonfire through the dark house (which he had to open a locked door to get through). That's pretty normal for Souls style games, to open up a shortcut right to the boss once you've gone through most of the area. First boss in Demon's Souls was behind a big door right in front of the beginning of the level.
The pursuit of creating a faultless interactive challenge is not one he takes lightly, and if players don't consider the action-fantasy epic "Bloodborne" to be downright punishing, he'll consider it a disappointment.
imagine if the game is set in the same universe and there's some religion based on the Maiden, faith shown through covering your eyes with bandages/wax.
TBH it's hard to comment on fine details like that when one comparison pic is direct feed and the other is an IGN video screencap, not to mention the entirely different time of day.

I know it's an orochi post so nobody wants to take it seriously, but look at the decorative elements on the right.
1) That's a direct feed shot of the alpha at 1080 vs a low-res screengrab of the IGN feed (you can tell bc of how blurry the IGN logo is)
2) A combination of the change in ToD lighting/camera being pulled back further makes the geometry appear less complex at first glance but I dont think its actually very different if at all.
I mean, it's hard to tell either way for absolutely certain. The architecture/carving on top of the door is definitely different altogether though, but I still think a lot of detail is being lost from the quality of the screengrab.
EDIT: Don't think that alpha grab on the top is 1080 actually but still a higher res than the IGN grab
I think they're specifically referring to the facade above the door. It's not a graphical change. It's a change in the actual design of the facade. If you look further to the right, there are a few other clear changes as well.

Yeah, I also covered that too though. Theres not any other changes further to the right, if you're talking about the busts from the top screen you can clearly see them* in the lower shot, just behind the pillarstone because, again, the camera is pulled back and its giving a completely different shot of the same area.
*- you cant clearly see them, bc once again, ppl are comparing a direct feed shot to a blurry low res IGN video cap.
There's gotta be some trick to beating the Cleric Beast that the guy in this video isn't using, right? Phalanx had fire, Taurus Demon could be jumped onto, and The Last Giant was just kind of easy. I don't believe that they'd make the first boss so hard that you just need to dodge attacks and chip away at it. This would be like forcing players to beat the Asylum Demon to progress.

Yeah there's a trick to the fight, but it still seems significantly harder than the first bosses in the Souls games. I killed Phalanx, Taurus Demon, and Last Giant with ease on my first try on my blind runs. It took me about 5 tries to kill Cleric Beast in the alpha.

It's most likely an artistic change. 90% of the detail your gonna see in an environmental flourish like that is gonna be a normal map on top of very a basic mesh. It's hard to make out but the second image probably has more poly's on that area above the door.
I'll say for at least the 3rd time in a Bloodborne thread that this argument IS NOT VALID because we are comparing this new pre-release footage to earlier pre-release footage. This disclaimer is not relevant to deciding whether the new footage looks better or worse than older footage.
Maybe people are forwarding this argument over and over again to simply say "hey, all these problems might be gone by the time it releases." Sure, that's a possibility. But I can't think of any recent examples of a game looking dramatically better at release than the footage released a few months before. So forgive me if I don't consider the disclaimer a valid reason to halt all discussion of the game's visual trajectory.

I don't, but that doesn't seem very likely, does it? Why wouldn't they show the best build they had available at the time for an IGN exclusive 18 minute video?
My point stands that the disclaimer you posted is irrelevant to this discussion because all this discussion requires is footage from multiple time points.

I know it is, which is why I asked the guy who actually has a recent build what he thinks about it. I was unsure whether video compression could completely obliterate the details of the environmental geometry so I am genuinely asking about it. I'm not trying to rile anyone up. (not that you are accusing me of such.)
Yeah that's so much better. Alpha image looks like just normals mapped on flat surfaces. That new higher quality image looks like there is some geometry under the normal map mainly because there is some quite hard shadows on the middle figure and the left figure.

stagger it by shooting it at the right moment and then performing a contextual attack
that takes off a lot of health, but I wasn't able to pull it off the one time I tried the demo. If anything, the camera was the real boss during that battle (since it would pull in way too close once you got near), ending my run despite being close to killing it.
"You still have to go through the matchmaking process. However, there is a workaround where you can use keywords or a secret word and share them with friends."
I presume that the keywords will act like a password to a private party.

Yuup, it's really good to see how seamless the shorcut worked out for the Cleric Beast area. I hope the rest of the game does that too: well placed Lamp with a shorcut to boss battle rather than a Lamp right in front of it.

As a general advice, I think when looks like on a screengrab picture from video footage of an unreleased game, we need to take video compression and quality of the player in mind since those things could greatly affect of what being shown.
Yeah, most of the enemies from this gameplay footage is like drengling but with more intelligent and better equipment so to speak. In previous footage where there are more types of enemy being shown, they aren't squishy. Big bandaged guy, hooded spearman, and werewolf were all pretty tanky.
Tower Knight and Flamelurker archstones are probably one of the harshest lol
Though for the latter, you don't have to do anything to take the shorcut, only careful platforming and guts.

I really hope there are some cool cloaks and capes to show off the new clothing physics. I need my gold-hemmed black set back...I think there's a way to

I think I've seen a footage somewhere that said to stagger Cleric Beast you need to shoot its head with a lot bullets, and that's how the player from footage able to pull his critical attack. I hope it's not like that though since spamming silver bullet just to stagger sounds very shitty, even moreso for players who picked bunderbluss.
On whether hed ever tackle a lighter, more family-friendly tone in a video game, he smiled and replied, It's funny you say that because I get asked this question quite frequently, and my answer to this has always been that I've always had an interest in doing something colorful or heartwarming, but no one believes me.
I think he is still trolling. Or probably he was trolling and now he's backtracking from trolling. The original context was that he had said that after dark souls he had moved on to working on something more lighthearted. That's where Bloodborne came from.

It's look so good. I've never been a souls fan and I always thought they were slow and boring but after learning about how challenging it can be im stoked to play this.

Probably something like +1 END and +2 VIT for Lone Survivor. Cruel Fate might have a higher starting Bloodtinge and Arcane stat (it's listed right before Deprived, which is usually where the magic/non-warrior classes are located).
Not sure why people call this out as some sort of amazing change when I'm pretty sure that it's just a couple new names for the classes. :lol
