One example would be these shots of Infamous. They're very clear and sharp, which is a massive plus, but everything looks overly glossy, and the textures either look a bit muddy or the "transition" between them is too clear, like the road stripes. In terms of rain shots with puddles, rain drops, and the natural-ness of city textures (if that makes sense), I think GTA V takes it. Obviously they're not as high res with being last gen, but their general design looks nicer and you can't beat good design.

The only thing it need is a film grain filter to give it some texture. Otherwise, damn good looking IMO.

Lack of AF in GTA =! Good design

That road is clean too.

Lack of AF is because it already runs like a pig. It gets 30fps on a good day so you have to make a sacrifice somewhere. Just because the distance they go low-res at is short doesn't mean they're badly designed, and a lot of current gen games even lack AF, like Forza.

its just his upgrade animation when he levels things .

Thank god, I told myself I wouldn't look at anything but I couldn't resist. Thank you for clearing up my fears that I had spoiled something for myself, no more threads for me.

Ah, there it is. Like clockwork...

Oh boy, I can smell the 6.5 from that tweet. Also, who in their right mind says a thing like this when you're reviewing a game and how can anyone not take this the wrong way.
Looks like he's not reviewing it. I take back what I said.

And this is a launch window, open world title from a studio not known for visuals last gen. We're going to see some insane shit over the next few years.

Yeah, that's what is making me giddy. When people see The Order in its final completed form, it's going to blow minds. But these are not even the technical Gods we've become accustomed to from last gen, not the Sony Santa Monica's and Naughty Dog's of the world. What are they going to accomplish?

The mind wavers a bit trying to imagine it. AND they have the most powerful console to work with for once!

He has to be doing stuff like this on purpose at this point. There's no way he's that much of a caricature.

I can almost write his review in advance he's so transparent. I hope Polygon realizes what a clown website they look like as long as Arthur Gies is associated with them. Their behavior during the PS4 Launch though shows they give no fucks how pathetic they appear, or how comically obvious they make their editorial leanings.

Alt:

Arthur Gies just needs his trademark "for people who hate me so much they sure do love to post about me" tweet and the cycle will be complete. Next time someone bumps into him at a game show or something, they should fucking take a picture of themselves trying to hold up his massive ego.

You claim that GTA's roads are blurred because of great design is actually because it lacks any AF

I don't know if you were talking about my shot, but don't worry man I wouldn't spoil anything like that, I am enjoying this game more because I went into it cold.

I wasn't saying they're blurred, I was saying the way the road stripes are painted on is more natural. On GTA they look like they were actually painted on, on the screenshots of Infamous I saw it looks like they're just a yellow strip drawn over the texture without any proper "burning in" look to it.

As I said:
"or the "transition" between them is too clear". I wasn't saying the textures being clear is bad, I was saying the difference between two things is jarring and not as natural as GTA's texture work.

Aftershock LA
I like the way they handled the split between the old fictional locations and now Actual Seattle; of course, the fictional coast has been obliterated. No fuss, no continuity muss.

Ah, yeah, I completely forgot about the east coast. Lol. I'm a huge inFAMOUS fan, so I really love the world they've created, and I think, with Second Son, Sucker Punch will finally start getting the attention/accolades they've deserved since the Sly Cooper games.

I'm also in the camp that thought inFAMOUS was graphically impressive at the time, and inFAMOUS 2 is still fantastic looking (I've been replaying it this week in preparation for SS, and I was surprised at how good it still looks, despite amazing looking games like RDR and GTAV looking phenomenal).

Second Son is very interesting to me, because the previous inFAMOUS games have always been very stylized, but SS is looking very tight and realistic. It's a little weird, but not in a bad way. I almost wish they had gone in a direction closer to the comic style cutscenes, as crazy as that seems (although, a Vita inFAMOUS spin off series done in a cel-shaded/Crackdown style would be fucking awesome, and keep the amazing realistic graphics mainline series on the PS4).

Did you conveniently skip this post?

I dare you to back this up with actual captures from GTAV.

This is more of a rhetorical question because it's obvious why you did

Care to provide some examples

I'm just going to link these because obviously this isn't a GTA thread.

Not really any point in posting them anyway with it being a matter of opinion, and everyone seems to prefer Infamous.

(Low res because the in-game screen capture resolution is very meh)

You can see that the way the colours and lighting drastically change with the weather and time matches that of Infamous, and *in my opinion*, even just basing it off of screenshots, it is a much better "capture" of how a real city looks.

It's all just a matter of opinion but at least some of you should see what I'm basing my own off of.

Seattle isn't dirty and doesn't have a yellow hue like LA though, its a much more clean an greener city

Yeah...I disagree. GTA5 looks good for last gen, but artistically and technically Infamous beats it by a country mile. No contest.

Dof? Please enlighten.
Depth of Field. Its where shit in the background looks blurry and out of focus like in some photographs, basically.

I'd like to see some uncompressed screens. I think its obviously quite good looking, but the compression hurts most of the screens being posted.

Gies is reviewing Infamous? Ahahahaha. I can see that 6.0 score from him a mile away.

Except for the part where he said he's not reviewing it a couple posts above yours and he's playing it because it was his second favourite game of E3.
