You're talking nonsense. If people are to lazy to read and yet want to join the discussion who's fault is that again?
As for MS benefiting, they benefit anyways. The foreshadowing of complete and utter disaster for Xbone on this forum was so strong that the idea of parity, let alone thoughts of the Xbone version looking better, is a huge win for MS.
MS has one more hurdle to cross with COD: Ghosts. If they can pass that hurdle they can fully refocus on the difference between X1 and PS4 as far as 1st party games go and that's an area where they are more then competitive.
Even if its not official, he admits that DF is aware of the issue, yet has made no public statement regarding the inaccurate captureI think that this should be added to the OP.
dark10x specifically said he wasn't a spokesman for DF and therefore there is no admission, basically making the entire thread moot.

That does not negate the thread at all, he gave us vital piece of information that completely changes the nature of the article.
That's just my understanding of how things went down (as in, it was a special event and DF brought its own capture hardware while everyone else used elgato boxes handed out by reps)
so it's ok to laugh at DF now?
wow what a mess...I think that this should be added to the OP.

Shouldn't they have noticed something was wrong with the captures before editing? Some of gaf members spotted the issues off the bat.
If you read the DF article that accompanied the video they do indeed mention it and how it could be a capture problem...

They say its possible, but its quite obvious now. They need to take down the inaccurate footageIf you read the DF article that accompanied the video they do indeed mention it and how it could be a capture problem...
Ok, but then another question must be asked. Why all other comparison videos from other sites don't show the same results?
Oh man.
Admitting the mistake on GAF rather than their own site is idiotic. They should take down the article temporarily and edit it to reflect that they initially fucked up. They didn't do it intentionally, though.
Still, with blunders like these coupled with Leadbetter's weird fanboyism, I can see why people would be frustrated with them.
They weren't able to record new footage because of it being a review event, and decided not to focus on the color saturation in their analysis because it was suspect. Their analysis and their review match up, and justifies posting their comparison video.
I think it was too. If you read the comment here, it's obvious to me at least that they had no reason to believe their method was flawed or in anyway would get a biased result. It's only after the other videos were posted to the Internet that they saw the differences. I think it was honestly a mistake that they were trying to be as unbiased as possible, which ended up being worse.Call me naive, but I think it's an honest mistake.
I'm shocked at how angry people are getting about either an article they didn't read or a regular eurogamer feature that they've never read.
Digital Foundry is the gold standard for graphics analysis, and have more than justified themselves with their years of articles. In this "horribly biased, botched" article, they even mentioned multiple times in the article that they thought something was up with their capture kits and told the reader not to focus on what they thought was an error on their part, and didn't let that factor into their analysis.
I'm not seeing what the huge sin is.
They tuned both differently.
GIF captured off XO? Blacks are crushed.
I agree that it's possible for some people to think it looks good and prefer it over something like what the video showed of the PS4. Despite the loss of detail.
Wow - commenting on an article and not reading the thread first is idiotic.
It's not an official statement from DF, just an opinion from a guy who works there. They will update the article once they actually come out and address the issue because Eurogamer ALWAYS does that. They're pretty good at transparency.
Also, as people have said, the possible capture issues are mentioned several times in the actual comparison.
I think that the thread title being 'Digital Foundry Admits To Botching Battlefield 4 PS4/XB1 Video Capture' does not correlate to the quotes I just gave from dark10x, the source of this story.
He SPECIFICALLY says 'that's just my statement on the situation not an official DF statement'
So, the part where they disparage the PS4 for lacking clarity is partly due to their mistakes and yet, they are leaving that tripe in their comparison even after admitting their mistake on NeoGAF?
Perhaps the biggest takeaway is that, in this near-finalised state, the PS4 offers a superior experience on several fronts. The resolution is higher at 1600x900, as compared to the tried and tested 1280x720 on Xbox One, suffering as it does for more visible aliasing artefacts. Visually, the PS4 has a marked advantage with ambient occlusion effects too, which simply isn't matched on Microsoft's platform with the build we played.
They say its possible, but its quite obvious now. They need to take down the inaccurate footage
They do with regards to clarity.I don't think they disparage the PS4
But the differences we saw don't just stop at resolution. Both versions are treated to post-processing anti-aliasing too, seemingly equivalent to the refined, high setting on PC. However, this doesn't tell the whole story. As you may notice in our screengrabs, the actual results on PS4 lack the corresponding level of crystal clarity we'd expect of such a significant resolution boost. This should surely be a home run for Sony's console, but what is likely to be a software-based upscale to 1080p delivers less-than-stellar returns, and for better or worse leaves the Xbox One with an often crisper looking, albeit much more aliased image.
I don't think they disparage the PS4
just face it, what is the % of people that actually read the whole article
I think that this should be added to the OP.

I read the thread fine.
He shouldn't have commented at all, but instead he expressly said "that's how I understand it went down." That's not "I'm just speculatin'!"
Official or not, they fucked up. Bill Clinton did not need to admit to banging his intern, for it to be true or not. He was doing it, whether it was official or not.

Alright here we go.
Here is the Jack upload vs. the DF upload screens
Top is the DF video, you can see the crushed blacks
Bottom is the Jack upload, same scene you can see the difference in the wheel black
DF did it on purpose from what I see
On GAF, facts matter. They matter a LOT. This is not DF admitting anything like the thread title says. The source of the story said he has no official capacity to make that admission.
I don't see what part of this you don't understand.
DF probably will make that statement, they just haven't yet and that makes this thread title a disingenuous one. Imagine if all thread titles had leniency like this one?
No, maybe not as he didn't write the article. But then maybe we shouldn't turn it into an attention grabbing headline without making sure the sources are concrete? All of which still makes your complaints about DF not rectifying the article somewhat moot.
Also "that's how I understand things" and "that's my opinion" are pretty damned interchangeable as his understanding is not fact. It amounts to the same thing.
Ohh great, so it wasn't a mistake its just that their capture equipment is god awful, I'm not sure which is worse tbh.
Yes facts matter, and that is why the thread is here.
