Nobody said that the improved cpu would be Zen!
Well, actually nobody said anything concrete but that is why the thread is now on page 40.
I have already gone full mad bro. 5.5 ft or bustThis needs to be the first post of every page in this thread, lol.
So much guesswork with little actual information.
Hopefully something is announced/leaked soon or we may all go mad (...or have we already?)
You guys really should pay attention to this post. He is a dev and respected might i add. He's literally telling us to dial it back a notch.
You guys are now talking about secret sauce? Surprises? Cut it out. We know the specs, now to see what sort of improvements they bring. If anything changes so be it. Be happy with what we get.
I read a post saying Digital Foundry was going to publish a new Neo article "soonish" after E3. Can't remember where I read, so I might just be mistaken.
Sony's technological advantage will be gone with the next wave of hardware - we already know that it cannot support true 4K resolution on cutting-edge games, because we've seen the internal documents that outline Sony's upscaling strategies for 4K display support (more on that soon). It's also unfeasible for Sony to produce a radically revised Neo - the silicon has been designed, developer kits have gone out. Matching Scorpio would require scrapping Neo's existing processor completely.
Probably BF1 and Destiny in that boat.
Most shooters will be 60 on both though.

Even 1440p will be a huge upgrade. It's a shame they can't do true 4K though. I really had hoped we could get most if not all titles up there.
We have a product for people like you its called the PS5.
I'll buy that too lol. Just playing overwatch on my 75" 4K tv makes me wish it was in 4K because it already looks amazing as is.

This obsession about Sony matching Scorpio one year earlier is just silly.
What if MS had said 7TF? 12TF? So far that's all they've done, stated how many Teraflops it will have, no price, no box, no games running on it, nothing.
Just undercut the Scorpio in price when its released and 4,2TF will more than do the job.
Sneakers said that 399$ isn't even Neo's biggest surprise, so whatever this feature is, it's gonna be a big deal

I'd say it's more important for Sony to get out to market this holiday with neo than try and match Scorpio spec for spec. Because they can't/won't match it so if it gets too close to Scorpio people will just wait.
I'm wondering whether 1440p looks better than 1080p on a 4K TV since it can't be upscaled as easy as 1080p.

Sorry but 4k even on a PS5 will be a gigantic waste of GPU resources. 4k resolution isnt going to magically make a game look better. You need 4x the tflops to output on 4k and those 8 or so tflops are better spent on extra foliage, shaders, geometry, physics, post processing effects like motion blur and draw distance.
Games look just fine on 1080p.
Your Twitter said the internet would break down soon hinting at a even more powerful Neo being announced. Is that not the case anymore?
Terrible comparison. Resolution is only one of many things that determine how good something will look. Increasing the resolution isn't always the best way to apply the resources availiable.Actually it does. if you have a camera take a picture at 2MP (1080P) & a picture at 8MP (4K) & print them out or even look at the pictures on a monitor or TV with a higher resolution than 1080P you will clearly see that 4K look a lot better than 1080P.
With all due respect Thuway, between blowing hot and cold continually yourself on these rumors, as well as your history as an "insider", I personally wouldn't tell others how to feel and what to think. You guys really should pay attention to this post. Wait, so there is now a rumor of PS4K being 5.5 tflops?

I can already hear people complaining that next gen look hi-res current gen if they go after 4K.

"Cut it Out"...
"Be happy with what we get"...
"We know the specs"?
Yeesh.
We don't know anything. You were speaking in this authoritative manner a while back, then recently started drinking the Kool-aid and now you have come full circle. No one can take you seriously any more...

Jeeze - I apologize if you find that contradictory, but I don't want this thread to go into crazy town. It's one thing to speculate- but we are officially talking about "secret sauce"- and at that point you have to hit the eject button.
Also- Paz is someone I respect alot. He worked on the incredible Assault Android Cactus and was literally telling us in so many words to dial it back a notch. He would have access to Neo - more so than any one in this thread.
I'm speculating just like any one else, and have expressed skepticism over the last few pages. I'm not trying to masqerade myself as anything except- a person super passionate about hardware, Sony's first party exclusives, and performance. ^_^
Lol why do people still fall for thuway...
With no signs of slowing. I do enjoy checking in now and again just to read the endless speculation hahaWell, actually nobody said anything concrete but that is why the thread is now on page 40.
Exactly, this dev is not SONY, people are pretending Cerny, Yoshida, House or Jim Ryan made the statement. Hell, even Cory Barlog may not be prevue to all of the NEO details right now. I really don't get how having dev kits now means that's what Sony is going to release. No offense to smaller devs, but I seriously doubt an indie developer is in the loop for Sony's official plans. Why would they be? Even Guerrilla Games was not fully privy until very late in the process.

This thread is crazy, if Sony expect 20M PS4 no way they are going to release Neo at $499/$599
Exactly, like we have seen in many games this gen, like HALO5 and QB......1080p will be looked at like this generation looked at 720p and 900p. We have to move on, by the time PS5 comes along, GPU's will be strong enough to deliver 4k resolution with high end visuals at 30 and 60fps.Image quality is a HUGE part of graphical fidelity
Highly dense and detail rich environments are pointless if you don't have the resolution to resolve that detail, and it turns into a pixel crawling mess (or a blurry, artifacty mess with TAA)
The whole point of Neo is to have the same development environment as the PS4. Hence compatibility both ways. It'd make no sense to send out a box which is the exact same to develop for, with the only difference of power to then be like "Oh, it now has more power".Exactly, this dev is not SONY, people are pretending Cerny, Yoshida, House or Jim Ryan made the statement. The only thing Sony won't do is to send out dev kits with a 6700k + 1080ti and back down later to a Jaguar+polaris, that would mess up the devs vision for the platform and skew the amount of power they were working with. It makes more sense to give devs something in the ballpark of what they're going for, to get things up and running, getting devs prepped and familiar with NEO development and then boosting that power in the end if necessary.

I'd understand if they sent out boxes with off the shelf parts strapped together (aka: PC) like they did the PS4 prior its launch, although this is a dev-kit which has a finalised APU in it. It's not changing.
