Fallout 3 and New Vegas mod discussion

sweet, love all your work

why not upload it to the nexus tho?

I might do, but these are just odds and sods that don't really warrant some big fanfare (although I might integrate the Vault 21 stuff into Outside Bets). Also I can't be bothered with all the inevitable "IT DOESNT WORK FIX NOW LOL" stuff that inevitably follows.

I'll also put up an updated cut content document on the blog soon. I found a lot of juicy stuff in Dead Money. For example, who knew that Veronica was Elijah's estranged step daughter...?

that'd be pretty awesome, all the more reason to start it all over again

Hypothetical question: If there was to be a Legion oriented fan mod with new locations etc, what would people like to see in it?

legion-controlled towns, so you get a glimpse of how life is under legion governance. in these places you get to see the better sides of the legion, the lack of crime and the prosperity of trade. and then show even more shit about the legion, how they treat women, have a quest about grabbing slaves (like in fo2!) or wiping out a tribe, their extreme ways of combating crime, etc.

mostly I'd want a more rounded up vision of what the legion is, rather than some goofy evil centurions running around killing shit because stuff in latin

Why the long case?
I've never been able to get FO3 to work with Win7 64. Crashes after about 5 minutes. Makes me sad :(

This is essentially my issue.

It crashes regardless of mods. All of my mods work perfectly, but the main game freezes regardless. I don't understand why so many people have been able to fix it with that ini edit. It has only worked for me on one computer.

This still doesn't help it.

Was it stable without all those mods?

Reinstalled this game, and thought I would give modding a try this time.

I´ve so far installed:
*The New Vegas uncut mods
*Project Nevada
*NMC Texture pack

What I´m looking for besides that are some mods that makes The Strip more impressive, and mods for quests and content that actually fits with the rest of the game. Any tips for what mods I should be looking for for that? There are quite a few The Strip mods on the nexus mod page, so it's a bit tricky to know which one I should go for.

que?
It does work. Just doesn't work when aiming down sights but it's not that big of a deal.

Yeah it's just a minor nuisance. Has any new worthwhile new land/quest mods popped up ever since Project Brazil? I liked the first part for what it was, but I'm not a fan of staying inside whenever I play Fallout.

These aren't compatible with new Vegas uncut due to them impacting the same stuff, right?

I'm not sure. Freeside stuff won't be, Strip might be. The last time I looked they were even just piggy backing off my mod as they couldn't be bothered to rebuild the LOD themselves/fix all the bugs their mod created.

Fake edit: seems they've finally done it themselves: "Removed The Strip Open requirement."

Thanks for the response, I dig your mods just was seeing what was up with them.

So, after years of messing with the game, you have a list of mods that are on your top tier list that's changed over time?

I've never played New Vegas before and plan on playing it soon... Which mods are a must from this list?
mtui
nevada skies
new vegas redesigned 2
project nevada / jesawyer mod
new vegas + freeside restoration (I dunno what bugs strummerjones' talking about, but for the most part they've worked really nice for me)

that's about it for me with the must-haves

I'd add new vegas uncut to the list. Lots of solid content added to the game.

Also, Ojo bueno. I like he look of the world with that pack using Nevada skies.

How is the New Vegas borders mod? It's supposed to add new areas on the borders of the map. I'm a big fan of the AWOP mod, and I'm interested in checking out even more areas.

Ohh ok, I haven't checked, this was just going on what I know about what they do/how they work. Any mod that changes Freeside in the normal game won't work properly if you use Freeside Open. I'm not really a fan of Mission Mojave, it does a lot stuff I disagree with, and breaks loads of my mods, I prefer the old "inofficial" community patch that it branched off of, which had its own share of problems but less dubious attempts at changing how the game worked instead of just fixing bugs.Unfortunately it's hard to find now.

My own faves:

Darnui - never finished properly but I still love its look even over more recent contenders
JSawyer - pretty much all the most interesting new mechanics of the game fleshed out and made more fun to play with
ADAM - Really nice retextures of all the NCR armour in the game
DelayDLC - stops bombarding you with lame pop ups for all the DLC when you start a new game (I might be wrong, but I think this might conflict with Jsawyer now, although it might just be me/using an old version)
Populated Casinos - makes the casinos look like actual busy gaming parlours instead of ghost towns with eerie sound effects of invisible people cheering.
Nevada skies - I'm actually getting bored/fed up of of this now, but I really liked it when I first got it, adds interesting new weather effects.
Ouja bueno textures - I always forget I even have these installed they are so essential
Millenia's Weapon Retexture Project - lovely looking retextures of most of the guns in the game.
ENB - I can't even remember which preset i'm using now, it was one posted on the ENB forums that worked with Nevada skies. I don't recommend ENB for new players though as it breaks loads of in game effects that can confuse the hell out of you if you don't know about them.

New Vegas Bounties is fun if you want more stuff to do in the game.

happy to see this thread getting more action lately

yeah I personally like it a lot but I dunno if it's a must-have

like, specially if you haven't ever played it you'll barely notice some of that stuff

the NPC project is another mod I really enjoy in the restoration lineup. basically it adds a lot of cut minor npcs to areas like the 188 trading post, bitter springs, etc.

it's really good, highly recommended

Also, Ojo bueno. I like he look of the world with that pack using Nevada skies.
maybe, I usually don't like texture mods since they change too much for my taste

that actually sounds pretty cool

my problem with new areas is not knowing if it'll work with my no-roaches mod

oh, maybe, I dunno, personally I had little issues with any of the restoration mods, other than sometimes finding the separating gate just floating somewhere for no reason

My own faves:

Darnui - never finished properly but I still love its look even over more recent contenders decent, but don't like the techy look personally. good alternative to mtui
JSawyer - pretty much all the most interesting new mechanics of the game fleshed out and made more fun to play with gotta try this out someday, wonder how it holds up to PE
ADAM - Really nice retextures of all the NCR armour in the game no idea, pics look nice
DelayDLC - stops bombarding you with lame pop ups for all the DLC when you start a new game (I might be wrong, but I think this might conflict with Jsawyer now, although it might just be me/using an old version) yip
Populated Casinos - makes the casinos look like actual busy gaming parlours instead of ghost towns with eerie sound effects of invisible people cheering. really good, even at teh lowest setting (the only one my pc could run smoothly)
Nevada skies - I'm actually getting bored/fed up of of this now, but I really liked it when I first got it, adds interesting new weather effects. big problem is that there's no real competition, fellout dude gave up so what else you gonna do...
Ouja bueno textures - I always forget I even have these installed they are so essential better than nmc imo but still don't like 'em
Millenia's Weapon Retexture Project - lovely looking retextures of most of the guns in the game. really really good, this one is great
ENB - I can't even remember which preset i'm using now, it was one posted on the ENB forums that worked with Nevada skies. I don't recommend ENB for new players though as it breaks loads of in game effects that can confuse the hell out of you if you don't know about them. hate enb, makes everything look like battlefield 3

New Vegas Bounties is fun if you want more stuff to do in the game. I personally didn't like this, bounties 2 was specially grating with shitty references to breaking bad and whatnot, but it's well made at least
my opinion on those in bold

also FOOK is another really good mod, lots of good bugfixes, specially for broken quests and such

What enb?

Can't honestly remember everything I combined, I know part of it was from kukuk who posted it in he screenshot thread , and something from ENHANCED SHADERS - ENB 161 (now it is at 173)

Is there some mods that removes some of the trash that makes it look like the war happened yesterday? It so odd to see loads trashed cars and motorcycles in the caravan transport ways, and people living with burned out books in their bookshelves.

Subscribing, thinking about getting both Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Question about the DLC, though. Was browsing the Nexus I've noticed that some Skyrim mods depend on some of the newer DLC to function, do any F3/NV mods have the same requirements?

There's no reason not to get the "Ultimate Edition" of NV as it's only 5 bucks. I bought it in last year's sale for 10 and that still was a steal.

What this man said. Pretty much all of it's solid gold save the lame 'Courier's Stash' DLC (which is just all the crappy pre-order bonuses dumped in a heap), but even then you need that for the incredible JSawyer mod to work which is worth the price of admission alone. It's not like Fallout 3 where you had turds like Operation Anchorage.

I'm new too, gonna buy it any minute now. I don't think I'll use any mods but if there are any NV glitches to look out for etc then I'd appreciate some tips.

my absolute essentials:
  • nevada skies
  • new vegas redesigned 2
  • project nevada / jesawyer mod
  • new vegas + freeside restoration
  • fook

the weapon retexture project is also really good, npc project and populated casinoes too, as well as strummerjones' restoration mods, but personally those are my must-haves.

do I still need to do all that stuff in the OP (backing up saves, installing those programs, etc) or does the Nexus Mod Manager eliminate the need to do all that stuff?

This all reminds me, I'd installed an ENB, but it made the weapon textures transparent. And then the fix I came across didn't work if you switched to iron sights. :[

You'll need a new vegas/Fallout script extender and an extraction program. The only thing NMM really replaces is FOMM (Fallout Mod Manager)

Fook

This is fixed in v190. There's a download link a few posts above.
