Game Informer September Cover: AC Rogue and AC Unity

I'll gladly buy both. More interested in Unity though, because of the changes to combat, stealth and traversal. And co op looks like it could be a lot of fun. But I did love the ship stuff from 4, so fuck it. Both it is.

I'm actually more excited for Rogue, even if Unity will look better. I'll grab Rogue on PC, which will help with the resolution, but it almost certainly isn't getting any of the next gen touches that Unity is.

Unity: French Revolution, birthplace of a new world, one of the most important events in human history

Rogue: Ice pirates

We shoulda make a poll about what the more interesting setting is. This is an unjust world so I've got a feeling Rogue would win this.

Unity: Parqour, lots of NPCs
Rogue: Naval battles, sea exploration

Yeah, Rogue sounds more interesting to me...

If you can finally crouch in AC: Rogue then I'll be that much more interested in it. Snow pirates sounds intriguing. I'm looking forward to seeing how it looks in motion. Hopefully the combat in that game also got an overhaul too.

With AC: Unity I hope they show new areas beyond the central square with the guillotine that we've seen a billion times already. That stuff is tiring to look at.

Day one for both.

Yup, me too. Oh wallet, how thou shall hurt this fall..

But for those saying that Rogue's setting looks "infinitely more interesting" than Unity... Are you all serious? The French Revolution is probably one of the more interesting historical periods in the history of ever. You know, not that ideas cemented during the Revolution didn't shape politics and social dynamics for the next couple of centuries or anything...

So, it's come to the point where there are so many AssCreed games that the ACR acronym actually applies to two games.

Formally. No PC confirmation yet, but that's a given.

"Last-gen" doesn't necessarily rule out the PC, though, so the answer is "No." (Strangely, we seem to agree on the former but not the latter.) I've clarified my previous post.

Rogue sounds a million times more interesting than Unity.

Eh. From what I've played of Unity the only difference in gameplay will be the controller you're using.

The new animations seem more fluid in Unity, and it seems there are more actions to your disposal than in previous Creed games.

- Play as Shay Patrick Cormac and experience the transformation from Assassin to Assassin Hunter
- Cast aside by those he once called brothers, Shay sets out on a mission to wipe out all the Assassins
- Set off on an extraordinary journey through New York City, the wild river valley, and the icy North Atlantic
- Equip the deadly air rifle for combat and use enhanced Eagle Vision to protect yourself from Assassins
- Cast off in your ship, The Morrigan, in improved naval gameplay with new weapons and enemy tactics

18th century, North America. Amidst the chaos and violence of the French and Indian War, Shay Patrick Cormac, a fearless young member of the Assassin Brotherhood, undergoes a dark transformation that will forever shape the future of the American colonies. After a dangerous mission gone tragically wrong, Shay turns his back on the Assassins who, in response, attempt to end his life. Cast aside by those he once called brothers, Shay sets out on a mission to wipe out all who turned against him and ultimately become the most feared Assassin hunter in history.

Introducing Assassin's Creed Rogue, the darkest chapter in the Assassin's Creed franchise yet. As Shay, you will experience the slow transformation from Assassin to Assassin Hunter. Follow your own creed and set off on an extraordinary journey through New York City, the wild river valley, and far away to the icy cold waters of the North Atlantic in pursuit of your ultimate goal to bring down the Assassins.

Become the ultimate Assassin Hunter

For the first time ever, experience the Assassin's Creed universe from the perspective of a Templar. Play as Shay who, in addition to the deadly skills of a Master Assassin, also possesses never before seen skills and weapons:

Equip Shay's deadly air rifle for both short- and long-range combat. Distract, eliminate, or confuse your enemies by using a variety of ammunition, including specialised bullets and grenades.
Protect yourself from hidden Assassins with your enhanced Eagle Vision. Use your vision to constantly assess your surroundings and detect Assassins hiding in the shadows, on rooftops, and in the crowds.
Slowly descend into darkness

Witness Shay's transformation from an adventurous Assassin to a grim and committed Templar willing to hunt down his former brothers. Experience first-hand the events that will lead Shay down a dark path and set him on a course that will forever change the fate of the Assassin Brotherhood.

New and improved naval gameplay

Cast off in your ship, The Morrigan, and fight your way through the icy seas of the North Atlantic and the narrow waters of America's river valleys. Assassin's Creed Rogue builds on the award-winning naval experience from Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag with all new gameplay including:

New enemy tactics: Defend yourself from Assassins as they attempt to board your ship and overthrow your crew. Fight them off quickly to avoid losing too many crew members.
New weapons such as burning oil, which leaves a trail of fire behind to burn enemy ships, and the puckle gun, capable of delivering continuous machine gun-like fire.
An arctic world full of possibilities: Ram through ice sheets to discover hidden locations and use icebergs as cover during naval battles.
Vast, diverse open world to explore

Shay's story will allow you to explore three unique environments.

The North Atlantic Ocean: Experience the cold winds and towering icebergs of the arctic in this expansive naval playground.
The River Valley: A large hybrid setting of the American Frontier mixing seamless river navigation and ground exploration.
New York City: One of the most well-known cities in the world, fully recreated as it existed in the 18th century.

So it really is true. FFS Ubisoft.

The downfall of this series is still probably my greatest disappointment of the past generation (outside of the general stagnation and poor business practice of AAA development that is).

filling in the gap between Black Flag and Assassin's Creed III. We won't spoil much, but it has a crucial link to the Kenway saga.
Hm. That sounds a lot more interesting than what we have heard from Unity so far.

Though I imagine that the gameplay itself will pretty much be a carbon copy of AC4

B-b-b-but more naval stuff this time instead of Caribbean it snow that means it wayyy more important then a major event in Paris that changed everything.

I take Unity tired of boats after 4

If Rogue is on PC, i'll probably get both, otherwise, just Unity.

I'm kind of excited for Unity and somewhat curious about Rogue, since i didn't play AC4.

Unity: French Revolution, birthplace of a new world, one of the most important events in human history

Rogue: Ice pirates

We shoulda make a poll about what the more interesting setting is. This is an unjust world so I've got a feeling Rogue would win this.

Like their gonna do the French Revolution any justice, Rouge at least sounds like a fun idea for a video game.

I don't understand why Rogue isn't a PS3/360/PS4/One PC game for this year and Unity couldn't have just waited for next year. Ubisoft is crazy if they don't see how these two games are going not going to sell as well as previous entries

FlyinJ

Douchebag. Yes, me.
Is there any mention of PC for Rogue?

AC3 ran like absolute garbage on the PS3. How did AC4 run?

I'm way more interested in Rogue than Unity as well...

Illness is the doctor to whom we pay most heed; to kindness, to knowledge, we make promise only; pain we obey.
So stupid... Assassin's Creed Rogue is by far the better title and is looking far more interesting as a concept. Unity on the other hand seems like concept trailer (ie. Project Unity) and features what looks like a by the numbers sequel. Hopefully the wait for the HD "remaster" for PSN/XBL won't be too long.

after seeing how stunning AC Unity is looking, it's a shame AC Rogue is last gen given the environment and setting. im sure AC Rogue would look amazing with the landscap in the same engine as AC Unity, at best AC Rogue will resemble AC IV Black Flag on PS4 and X1. so stoked for Unity tho! :)

I wonder what it's like working at Ubisoft.

"Hey guys we're making another Assasin's creed game!!"

Wooo

That said, they both look good.

I´m legitimately wondering how many years they´ll be able to keep making Asscreed games until people get sick of them.

5 years ? 10 years ?

I have no idea.

Naval gameplay is the reason I didn't want IV and didn't care much for AC III. So I'm not really interested in Rogue. Also, I do think two games is too much.

What am I reading? Ice pirates? Seriously? I get they're cool and all but seriously? Ice pirates?

Sounds fantastic. A damn shame that we will have to wait for this to come to the new systems. It is by far the most appealing Assassin's Creed this year and I would have bought it for certain. As it stands, I really don't plan on going back to the old PS3 and 360 anytime soon. You know what to do, Ubisoft.

Rogue is only on 360 and PS3 for now.

The journey will take players from America to the frozen arctic. Assassin’s Creed Rogue will be out on November 11 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Liberation, a Vita-only game got a PC port. I expect this as well.

But not a launch.

The thing here is if Rogue has a PC version on same day than PS3/X360 or with the more than possible launch on PS4/XBO next year.

Edit: I see now is confirmed for PS3/X360 only.

I'd take Unity over Rogue any day of the week.

Unity marks the true change the series need, back to social stealth, crowd sneaking, new setting with very interesting events, and hopefully more focus on stealth.

While Rogue is more about pirates, and I never liked pirates, so maybe I'm biased, but I don't think Rogue will offer anything new, unlike Unity.

I'm getting Unity for sure, and waiting to see if Rogue got anything cool to offer, maybe I'll borrow it from a friend or just rent it.

Way more interested in a 1:1 scale Paris during the French revolution with all the latest bells and whistles. Having said that, if Rogue came to PC I'd certainly buy it.

No PC? Oh well, didnt want to play it anyways. Its gonna be remastered for Next Gen in less than half a year anyways lol Also - the trailer was super dull.

for fans like myself they're fun games to play each year. the AC games are like a comic book series to me; new plots, characters and settings each game, but the same consistent experience overall. i dont get the hate? the only AC game that was bad was AC III, so one bad game out of five mainline games isnt too bad a ratio. ill keep buying them as long as they remain enjoyable.

Looking forward to both of them
AC Rogue sounds certainly interesting with the whole playing as a Templar hunting assassins and the Arctic should be fun to explore
