Heems - Eat, Pray, Thug Impressions

1) Sometimes - The first single that we heard from this album and this is the song on here that actually sounds like his earlier work the most. It's not the best song in the world, but I enjoyed it (though I feel like the song could had been shorter)

2) So NY - Harry Fraud kills it with the beat here, but everything besides the chorus is just really bland

3) Damn, Girl - The first track where we see Heems trying to go towards a more "pop" song on this album and yeah, he just shouldn't go for this direction whatsoever

4) Jawn Cage featuring Rafiq Bhatia - The beat on here is alright, I guess, but I just really can't take this anymore. Heems has somehow gotten worse (rapping wise) ever since he dropped Nehru Jackets and Wild Water Kingdom

5) Flag Shopping - If you were looking for a replacement for "10 2 10" like I was for 2015, then you're in for a treat, cause this just might be it. Heems raps over the most generic Soundcloud trap beat done by a high school student on his school's iPad and he just rambles about going flag shopping and how he is judged because of who he is and how the government is watching him. I understand that you need to speak out on issues like this, but please don't do it so that your mom is gonna be embarrassed by it and she's gonna kick you out of her house

6) Pop Song (Games) - Here's another pop song from Heems and while this one is better than "Damn, Girl", I just don't really like the direction of these songs

7) Home featuring Dev Hynes - The production on here is actually quite good and this is the first song on here where I can actually take Heems seriously, but that's a pretty bad thing to say seven songs in

8) Hubba Hubba - Just like "Flag Shopping", Heems raps over a trap beat here, but unlike "Flag Shopping", he can actually pull it off and he doesn't embarrass himself here. If you were a fan of "Wild Water Kingdom", you'll enjoy this song

9) Al Q8a - If you didn't like this Danny Brown song, you won't like this song, because it's basically a straight rip off of it (well, production wise)

10) Suicide By Cop - Heems finally decides to get serious (or maybe he was serious the whole time, I'm not sure) and the beat on here isn't bad, but I'm really just not being grabbed at this point and on the song before the last song, it's just a bad thing

11) Patriot Act - I think that this is a spoken word song (I hope it is), but at this point, I want to care about what Heems has to say, but I feel like music isn't the way for him to do that and I do believe that Heems does have stuff to say, but clearly judging from this album, you can tell that he wasn't the creative force behind Das Racist and he needs someone else to tell him how to express himself

This album just isn't good overall. There are a few decent songs on here, but I ended up cancelling my pre-order of it after listening to the stream of it and it's a shame, because I am a huge fan of Nehru Jackets and a few songs on Wild Water Kingdom and I feel like this is a huge fall from those two mixtapes. If you were a fan of his other work like I was, I recommend you check out the album, but it just wasn't for me

Dumbest thread so far. I'm going to kill HRD before it's over.

toku's Against All Odds begins now

ATLiens > Aquemini

Supreme Clientele > OB4CL

GOAT is still Ghostface Killah

Count still aint shit

Rihanna will never surpass "We Found Love"

how dusty is 1980s rap tho

#factsonly

left the stuff that reasonable men can agree with, except ya'll goin too hard on accepting souljah status by frontin like all 80's rap doesn't hold up tho

Clientele is way way better than Cuban Linx fam. Ghostface almost outdoes Raekwon on his own album.

no lies here

Ironman > Supreme Clientele before we start getting into "nonsense" like some of Method Man, ODB and Inspectah Decks solo projects.

see here's the thing, was sayin in the last thread how my man ShinobiFIst (RIP) used to argue against that first album = sacred cow thing, pointing out how the next one might have better choice/fitted beats, more refined lyricism etc...he'd use It was Written..., Wu Forever etc to make this point, but while Ironman is a classic by me, Supreme is just better in nearly everyway. yeah you don't get as much of that era Rae but you get so much more, it's a better tradeoff overall. shit might be Starks' finest hour.

ITT: wastemen

also this

Good OP. The Yeezus influence so skrong.

too skrong, really. people forgot bout death grips as a result too

Knowledge is power, guard it well
Don't bother with that Boldy James. It's inundated with wasteman struggle choruses.

AZ had a dope verse though.

The beat is trash. All new ye songs have been fucking awful. I know there's a club in here, but I'm sure the rest of you can tell this album is finna be garbage.

He needs to forget the fashion and all that other horseshit and try remember how to make decent music again.

Fuck kanye west.

this post doesnt get enough love

Feels much more powerless than the Brit awards version

Not sure what is going on at the end though, I like that part
