Half of chapters in Ryse beaten in 90 minutes ?

Ryse looks like a linear QTE fest you can fart your way through.
I'm shocked that it was only half over after 90 minutes. I have no idea why they tried to prop this title up as being some sort of flagship title for launch. It's a turd.

Good lord. Next gen should have stayed in the oven for a little longer. It's a bloodbath all around it seems. *hugs wii u*

somehow, i dont know how the fuck it happened, but somehow an 8 year generation wasn't long enough for these folks to get their shit together for the next round.

Please, enlighten me with the details of their non-existent trade-in program at approved retailers.

To be fair, you're criticizing their original plans. Their original plans allowed you to sell/trade your purchases as part of the structure (albeit through particular channels). So which is it: are you mocking the original plan as it was, or does the plan not exist?

The first PS4 reviews have been mediocre, but I think the first Xbox One reviews will be terrible if things like this are true

6/7's for ryse, 7's for DR3, 8's for killer instinct, and high 8's low 9's for forza. I think killer instinct and forza will be the standouts.

10's across the board from polygon. Every game is game of the generation already.

These type of games shouldn't be much longer than a couple of hours. I want short thrill ride not some long tire some drag. That said I've zero interest in either Xbox One or Ryse.

I don't think a reviewer would ever gauge the playtime without cutscenes.

The game is ridiculously short then. Like Phil Spencer calling up Crytek and asking "wtf?" short. The live stream level is 40 minutes with cutscenes so that leaves you with about 50 minutes for the other 3 chapters. so that's 16 minutes per chapter with the cutscenes.

I played an hour of Killer Instinct in August and think it's a good game, problem might be that it really isn't a feature complete game at launch. That will probably drag it down.

This has to be bullshit. Stop and think for a second. One chapter alone took 45 minutes...

There's 8 chapters. That amounts to about 6 hours...which sounds about right. I smell bullshit.

Think I'll wait till it's confirmed before slating Crytek. For all we know, the previewer could have been playing on the easiest setting. 7-8 hours is ok for me with this type of game, would prefer 10-12 though.

You really think Killer instinct will get 8's?
6 characters (2 to come later)
No arcade mode/story mode (rushed)
Developer track record.

Forza I can see...but Killer Instinct looks like a Demo being released as a full game.

Yeah I could see that

Forza reviews well and Turn10 makes good games

I think it'll go Forza > Killer Instinct > DR3 > Crimson Dragon > Ryse personally

It doesn't stop the trolls. We're all pretty sure this game won't be 3 hours along.

Wow. It's too bad because the game is goegeous.

Light on mechanics and content, heavy on the pretty. This has been the trend for more than a generation. I am surprised folks don't get upset about this sort of thing.

If the industry keeps down this road, then there will be a point sometime next generation where the cost will be greater and length of time enjoying the experience of a game will be shorter than hiring a professional escort for an evening. There would be an argument to be had for visual quality of either instance though most likely...

It's a system exclusive, so they will point it out as a flagship launch title. It also looks pretty good, but it looks like it lacks combat depth and length.

I'm sure that it won't fair well when reviewed and I will honestly be surprised if it does. I will call hypocrisy on any reviewer that says that it has deep and engaging combat after how much flak Knack has received for its lack of combat complexity/depth.

Which really makes no sense, lol. So I'll just wait and see what's up with that.

I don't think length will be an issue either way. Repetition will be, if the game is seriously not mixing it up and will just be constant combat.

Developer track record means nothing when by all accounts of people playing it they knocked it out of the park and made an incredibly fun game.

But yeah, review wise I don't see it setting the world on fire due to content and also reviewers on fighting games in general is never saying much.

That would be disappointing if true. I had a feeling this would be a shorter title. Luckily there are many more xb1 exclusives for launch.

People that play fighting games don't particularly care about story mode. It's all about competitive play (and training room of course). On top of that, fighting games RARELY get lower than 8's. They are not compared to the last of us or halo, they are compared to much more bare bones games.

I seriously doubt this game is 3 hours long. My guess is 4-6 hours unless you skip cutscenes, rush from point A to B, and play it on easy mode. 3 hours is just... no fucking way.

what is more shocking, is the amount of people that instantly think that this is going to be a 3hr game now...

KI has been praised by those who've played it and it isn't priced as a full game, so therefore can't be stated as being released as one.

KI looks great, probably the only game I'd get for XB1 if I end up caving and picking up my order. Reviews just depend on how much they feel like knocking off for the lack of features.

Ok, I don't think KI was rushed as much as it was MS's fault to push XBO early. If you think about it, wasn't there word that XBO was planned for March of next year which is ironically, the same time KI would release Fulgore & story?

These guys credible? We sure no one is talking out of their buts. What else did they say about the game? I am gameflying it!

Maybe the other chapters aren't as long as the first. Maybe this guy counted only the play time and not the cutscenes... There's many possiblities.

Full preview from the OP (my translation, I am bilingual)--feel free to edit into OP or repost elsewhere, no credit needed except to the original source who wrote it:

Have we been naive enough to believe, in the space of an instant, that Ryse could become Xbox One's God of War? We'll tell you straight up, it won't be anything, besides the sexy veneer that Crytek's title hides itself under. Certainly, the spectacular panorama views are numerous (English cliff, Roman hills), filled with ultra-high polygon models and with decorations filled with details, all draped with beautiful textures dunked in a bath of next-gen shaders. But while we're talking about spectacular views, the extremely linear levels to the extreme don't offer any possibility of exploration (in terms of climbing or platforming segments like God of War) and instead strings together combat arenas (a street, a market, a beach, repeat). Combat finds itself the central -- even if we wouldn't say only -- mechanic of Ryse.

Let's talk about combat. Commanding of Roman General Marius Titus, who launches into a campaign against the barbarians after the murder of his family (in a totally ridiculous scene), the player will initially start out impressed by the scene that ends each combat scenario, which underlines the brutality of each strike in a classy slow-mo. You'll amuse yourself for a while with the limpid mechanics, alternating between sword attacks, parries, and dodges to stop or stall enemy attacks, as well as QTEs that are symbolized by the colours of the gamepad buttons, which need to be entered as fast as possible to multiply their benefits (you can choose between health, XP, slower power gauge, or bonus damage). A few tens of minutes later, the snoozing rhythm of the combat risks ruining the veneer: our session quickly turned into a repetitive and undifferentiated fight depending only on the type of enemy (small barbarian, big barbarian, end of level boss).

An hour and a half gave us enough time to beat almost half the chapters that make up the game, in other words we have little hope that our final verdict will sing a different song than this preview (at least without an end-game miracle or time spent in co-op). At this time, we can only tell you this: Don't buy an Xbox One for Ryse, because the chance that the game won't disappoint is low.

(Should I buy it) Day One ?
No
Why: Because this title has a strong risk of just being a tech demo, its visuals hiding poorly an vulgar retelling of ancient Rome and a game design centered on an extremely repetitive combat system. You probably won't want to buy this ever, let alone day one.

How could people even begin to compare this to God of War. Now that makes zero sense.

Rome.... Greece.... uh you know it's all the same :-/

I actually hope this game comes out great and gets stellar reviews. It would be nice to have my pessimism punished for once.

It's quite possible the chapters took 90 minutes, though it may not be indicative of all of them. MGR had at least one chapter solely devoted to a boss fight, and that could be cleaned up in a few minutes. It's possible that the other half of the chapters are significantly longer, though it remains to be seen how much longer.
