Because people want dirt cheap VR that works perfectly and if they can't have it this year then the entire platform is dead on arrival. Just stupidity. No patience for a platform that needs probably a decade of maturity before it's truly accessible to the mainstream.

It was very clear it would be the priciest. Throw in a 980Ti required to drive it and they've got a product they know full well is targeting a small audience. People can't comprehend that businesses aren't always catering to them/mass audience.

Pretty much. HTC warned plenty of times prior to this that "hey, this will be expensive and the price will prevent mass adoption, but we'll target the enthusiasts, because we think this is a premium product", but people didn't want to listen.

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
I think VR is looking as gimmicky as 3D.

I mean who is going to spend time to re-order your room, and then what? Walk around your room to play games? Too much work for working adults, too expensive for students. Games are meant to be relaxing and on a comfy coach.

Maybe if HTC make a VR porn/romance game for bored housewives...

Dont worry. There will be seated VR experience. You can still use it while sitting on a chair

Try it then come back to this post. You will understand better I think. It is not a normal experience. I think the prices are murderous, but the tech is really incredible.

The amount of people disgusted by the price range is truly unsettling.

VR is a new technology, they are certainly testing the consumer market.

Yet ya'll will pay comparable, sometimes more for a new phone that's in a saturated market and costs $50 to produce.

I know I'm not alone in saying this but I think the overall prices of these platforms are going to really limit their gen 1 adoption rates... I really hope that doesn't end up killing VR.

Personally, I'm going to be waiting a while before I jump in. Guessing at least 5 more years before I buy in and get one based on prices and software availability.

After the Oculus was announced at $599, I figured this would probably hit $799 if they included the cameras and awesome controllers with it. Definitely a bit of a sticker shock waiting, especially when people find out that their computers possibly need a better GPU.

You're going to have to bite the bullet for me on this one, early adopters.

PSVR at least for me is still the most viable option only because I don't own a PC gaming rig but if it's more than $500 at launch I'll have to wait for a price drop.

Sony right now:

All Sony have to do is price it between 299-399 and they win.

Sony now know the price of their two competitors. Even 100 dollars lower than the occulus and Sony will still win
Sony was always going to win, because it runs on a PS4. Nevertheless I think this is a good price, seems like a better deal than the Oculus, and seals the fact that I'm going Vive.

Yikes. I wonder how much of that is so HTC can profit vs. Oculus which claims they are at cost.

Called it in the previous thread. It's no big surprise. Valve/HTC has been open about the fact that their product would be more expensive than the competition. For some reason though, this was ignored by the masses, who instead reveled in making Oculus out to be the bad guy in how they priced their product, and making all kinds of "I guess it'll be Vive for me then" comments all over the internet, including on this very forum.

Those of you expecting the PSVR to be cheap at this point, do you never learn?

Like we didn't expect such prices.

Remember guys. You need a 1500-3000$ PC to run VR. So it's not like they would sell more for half the price.

Where did the $3000 number come from? Oculus only needs a 970/modern intel quad. I imagine the Vive is in a similar situation?

Wow... I I.. Need a minute to digest this price. This is much higher than the oculus.. My goodness
It includes the two controller and room scale possibility right off the gate.
If you add ~200$ of touch controllers+ second Camera to the 599$ of the Oculus, you get the same price.

I dont mind the price. Also expect preorders to do similar to the rift. Theres alot of people with money out there into this kind of stuff.

Just when I think I'm out.. they pull me back in!

Probably comes across as overly dramatic, but I was expecting higher.. and now I'm sort of back on board. It's high. Sure, and I still have to think about it. But it's.. not ridiculous.

Concerns for me are as follows:
European prices
New iteration within a short time frame?
Pricing of Oculus Touch
Who is going to have the best porn

Do you though? Oculus Touch might be cheap. Don't forget that you can take off the price of the Xbox One controller too.

Yeah I mean right from the start they came out and said it would be premium price for "the premium VR experience" so Oculus + 200 USD is about in line with that. As I said in the other thread, regional pricing will be interesting this time around as a lot of countries got screwed by Oculus.

This isn't what I look for. What I look for is the headset view, without the motion controls.

Fair enough, that's what i thought you meant. Still, you still need the head tracking so you still need the cameras - if that's what you're afte buy a Rift.

In all seriousness, There's better value here than with the Rift. I don't expect much out of PSVR though.

How so? Does it have more potential? Yes. Well that potential be realized the first year or so to make a significant difference? That remains to be seen, but I'd bet on it not. I think developers will make games that works well over all 3 devices. Kind of the lowest common denominator approach.

my only concern about pricing is that I can afford it - but it significantly eats into my GPU upgrade fund, and VR kind of needs a good GPU.

I can probably live with it on a GTX970 for a while though

Crazy expensive but remember who this is for. It's the people who are willing to spend $400-$500 every few years for a GPU upgrade. It's not a mainstream device. Just like PSVR is targeting hardcore PS4 owners who were early adopters and invest regularly in the ecosystem. Which will in turn reflect the eventual price (obviously cheaper than this, but not overly so)

It's better to think in that respects as oppose to "I wouldn't buy it at that price LOL BOMBA!!"

So for $200 more (compared to Oculus) you get:

+ 3D controllers (this is *huge*)
+ Pass-through camera & chaperone system (*big*)
+ Room scale tracking (*big*)
-----------------------------------------------------
- Slightly less impressive Audio offering
- Oculus has slightly more exclusives

Both comes included with free games.

Win what? Ffs this console war garbage is annoying.
People interested in room scale vr will not be interested in a PSVr, vice versa, people with a ps4 and without a 1k$ PC, won't even consider neither Oculus nor Vive.
They're very different audiences with little overlap.

Well I guess it's just Oculus Rift for me unless they unveil some awesome high budget games that use room scale.

I'm expecting EU price to be 899€.

Impressive use of adjectives to hammer your personal opinion in there, man. You made it impossible to see which way you're leaning.

First gen was always going to be on the expensive side.

I'm sure like all technology future iterations will drop significantly cheaper.

As expected. The only thing left is nvidia finally announcing new GPUs and we're good to go. Stop acting surprised, you knew this was going to be a premium product.

Wow that's a lot cheaper than I thought it would be, if you can afford 600 for a Rift you can probably spring another 200 for a real VR experience with room scale tracking and controllers that actually facilitate VR experiences.

Still shocked Oculus is launching with an XBox controller.

I'm so in. Can't wait to place my preorder. It does help that the pack in games were two of the games that most excited me.
