Why does Nintendo have this habit of taking one step forward and two steps back at ever single opportunity they get!?

Guess I need to post this again since there are some people who seem to have already forgotten after 2 page. Wow, how the mind slips!

Opening admitting to sexually assaulting someone(then banning anyone who called him out for it)

Posting revenge porn with their real full names then another admin(a now jailed pedophile) printed the photos and jacked off over them and sent it to the boyfriend.

You're right, how can we even know if he's guilty or not? HMMMM

The other two are:

search for people around you physically
search for people you've played with

If I wanted to add you, and we are not in the same room or have not played a game together, we would need a friend code.

That's how I understand it.
it gets the suggestions from the social networks you link

I dont mind it as long as you dont need to EXCHANGE them. If I get a friend request the its fine.

I would prefer having it like in bnet: a name + a unique code is used to send a friend request, but even then its not that different from just using a unique code.

Welp, hope they patch in usernames soon.

Kinda implies it'd be the only way, not one of a couple.

Well, looking at the menu, it's the only way for a direct friend invite, it seems.

The facebook/twitter stuff is a workaround, where you can likely find some people to add, but it's not sending out a simple console-to-console friend request that's been standard since the OG Xbox.

Not if you're both on Twitter.

I mean, sure, it's an option (and why not the user id we just set up?). But you can also add friends with the following methods:

Are friends with them in Mario Run
Are friends with them in Fire Emblem Heroes
Are friends with them in Miitomo
Both have My Nintendo linked to Twitter
Both have My Nintendo linked to Facebook
Are in the same room

To say it's the "main method" is odd, because I will be adding about 15 friends, none of which will need to use a friend code to do so.

And remember, gamers on mobile phones are used to the friend code method. Basically every gacha game uses them.

I don't use any of the above, so yes, friend codes would be my main way to add my friends. This is ridiculous that they aren't using the user IDs

I posted this article and can confirm. It's very unfortunate. The one person that I had been friends with on Super Mario Run and also has a Switch was there for me to add and it was seamless, but it appears that unless you've played with a person before online or are in the same room as them, you'll need to use a 12-digit randomised friend code.

You can 100% as far as I can tell, not add people that are on Twitter or Facebook. This is not mentioned AT ALL. If you can, then it's not listed as an option. It clearly said friends on Super Mario Run and Miitomo.

"Suggested Friends" encompasses your friends and mutual follows on Facebook and Twitter and makes this sting a lot less.
If they let you add friends you have on Wii U via NNID-to-Nintendo Account link, it's almost a non-issue. Almost.
At the same time, they took what made the Wii successful perhaps a little bit too all-encompassing, so one of the more draconian aspects is represented here.
The beauty of UI updates is that more options can be added. Let's see it happen, and soon.

What I want to know is, if I add a friend through a friend code, will they get a message and will be able to accept it and add me in the progress without them having my friend code? That's important to me lol

Imho the code is the cost we have to pay for being able to change our user-ID at will..

What if they use miitomo through there? seems like there is just more options, a far cry from the Wii days.

If they're on Miitomo, they have a Nintendo Account, and will show up on the Switch suggestions if you are friends with them in Miitomo.

Considering Nintendo is iteratively building the system, I wouldn't be surprised if other friend management options are added in a future update (assuming they're not hidden behind another option right now). People are overreacting about the FCs when they're likely just backwards compatibility for the 3DS and possibly to tie into their mobile ventures.

People mistakingly asume its the only way to add friends I guess.

It does look like that though. Let's say I wanted to add you right now, the on;y way would be to use a friend code since you're not near me and we haven't played together. At least according to this screenshot. This is ridiculous!

So it's not the only way?

Goddammit, OP, way to misinform people.

It's the only way to add a friend directly, switch to switch without some social media nonsense or having them in the same room.

In 2017, don't you find it a little ridiculous to be lacking a feature that's been around since the OG Xbox? Personally I do, and I think it needs to change.

Ah, I see. There are many ways to add people you know but only one way to add complete strangers and that's the Friend Code... damn Nintendo.

That title is not in line with what is posted in the OP which sound exactly like how the Wii U works.

Wii U allowed you to add people directly through user names. However,

It does look like that though. Let's say I wanted to add you right now, the on;y way would be to use a friend code since you're not near me and we haven't played together. At least according to this screenshot. This is ridiculous!

It seems like the people you want to add do show up as recommended if you are linked together by things like social media (i.e Twitter, Facebook, friends you already have on your NNID)

Why does Nintendo have this habit of taking one step forward and two steps back at ever single opportunity they get!?

Because Nintendo is its own biggest enemy. Their backwards ass decisions always come out sooner or later. If only they tried to innovate on their general user experience rather than just the hardware.

Like how are they STILL using this bullshit in 2017?!

It's strange you cAn add randoms from games you have seen them online in, but you need a code for people you want specifically. Like wasn't friend codes used to "protect" users from weirdos? This seems backwards.

Man, I really love the idea of the Switch and making it my main gaming device since I love nintendo and indie games, and hate being disconnected at times from my MAC on my TV due to work, or email.

But I am apprehensive that Nintendo will get it all right, and it'll be a smooth convenient experience.
