Guess I need to post this again since there are some people who seem to have already forgotten after 2 page. Wow, how the mind slips!

"Allegedly"

Opening admitting to sexually assaulting someone(then banning anyone who called him out for it)

Posting revenge porn with their real full names then another admin(a now jailed pedophile) printed the photos and jacked off over them and sent it to the boyfriend.

You're right, how can we even know if he's guilty or not? HMMMM

It's exactly the same number of steps as adding someone by their username. And it's not "backwards in 2017", Japanese mobile phone games use this method all the time. As does my aforementioned mobile phone, which uses an "11 digit friend code".

Oh, come on. Typing a friend code is much more pain in the ass than just sending a friend request to Robin64. You can't even copy-paste since there's no browser.

You can afaik change your ID as often as you want. I think that's why they use the FC again..correct me if I'm wrong tho.

It's like the blizzard system for battle.net, right? You have your name like Sesuadra, but if a friends wants to add you they need your sesuadra#12345 name or email?

The bnet way of naming is better than just a FCs. Its easier to remember and shorter too.

I dont think its odd to say that. The main method to add people in general is to use an identifier, either it being an username or code. Otherwise it requires external things like the games you mention.

Well I don't know about you, but I already engage with my friends, because they are my friends. A unique identifier will be the main method for adding strangers that have yet to become friends.

And I agree there should be an option to send a friend request to Robin64, not disputing that. But I also don't think this is absolutely the end of the world as some people are making it out to be.

I meet someone at work or whatever. Hey you have a switch? Add me?

What's your user name: JetBlackPanda -Done

What's your friend code: uhhhhh?? Let me get my switch Or my phone or..

I honestly hope this is just one way to add friends. If I can't search via ID, you know one of the whole purposes of creating a Nintendo ID, I will be really disappointed with this decision. This is as if Nintendo has learned nothing.

Alternatively, they could've gone with usernames. It's a lot easier to share a username with people in conversation than a friend code. I'm not going to memorize my friend code and I don't expect other people to have theirs on hand either. There is zero advantage to using friend codes.

Thing is, and this may be the crux of the issue, you can currently have a Nintendo Account without a User ID.

It is one of multiple ways, yes.

This literally makes no sense and is beyond stupid. Nintendo need to outsource their online stuff because they are not learning and not improving.

Dear Nintendo. There should be a single friend list across all your mobile games and hardware.

That's what we thought Nintendo account was for

Yet you still fuck up.

Sad,

Someone not buying Switch for a long long time now.

All right, I think that about does it for me. Nintendo takes one big step forward with this innovative design, then takes a GIGANTIC LEAP backwards with the online, apps, and social features of this system.

Not getting this system now because this is bullshit. When Nintendo steps in 2017 I'll be back.

Is there a true limit or barrier to change your User ID? If not, that'd probably explain it. Nintendo would want you to have a consistent ID for that.

In 2017, gaming networks search your social media profiles to find and add your friends automatically. There's no steps. No codes. No adding. It just happens.

Imagine a game released today that used codes for level select because it didn't support saving data. That's how backward this is.

jesus, i thought nintendo would have moved past this or at least had multiple options seeing as they'll be charging for it soon.

Wait... We're now PAYING for a service that uses friend codes? Hahaha are you kidding me?

This is beyond ridiculous in 2017.

Switch does exactly this.

Codes are for people you've never engaged with anywhere else.

So does Nintendo

This is silly, but not surprising. FE Heroes had it too.

Not defending it, but this also impacts me zero.

Well, that requires that your friends have at least one of those games. Maybe they do, so its no problem, i'm just saying that i dont think its odd to say that this it he main way to add people in general. I know what you mean though.

You know, I didn't really believe that many of these folks never use or used a modern console, but the more I am in these threads the more I'm beginning to change my opinion.

IMO, the minute Nintendo announced you could dock the Switch and play it like a console attached to a TV, it should have features considered commonplace for consoles in 2017. Seriously, why make something more difficult that it has to be?
