It's still a great victory, the biggest of them all. And an important one, as mentioned before, because we really need parties that put climate change, which is the biggest problem facing the world right now, on the map.

I'd say party's concerned with climate change won a small victory but are still loosing the war.

VVD never once spoke about climate change. D66, though considered a green party, does not have a history of fighting for the cause. Groenlinks + PvdD only managed to grow from 6 to 19 seats out of 150. Far away from the strength needed to actually change policy.

We will try again in 4 years but personally I feel we are still stagnating on progressive change as the country went with the conservative status quo (VVD/CDA) to stave off populism.

I can't see the VVD doing this. Seeing as Rutte ran on the premise of being the opposition to Wilders, joining such a conservative coalition would probably decimate them next time.

D66 did make climate change a large priority. They also proposed a minister of climate. Plus the two most likely coalitions would add a second party that puts quite a bit of focus on climate change in the mix (either GL or CU). I can see the VVD compromising on this and giving a D66 member the spot of 'minister of climate'. That would be the best outcome.

However, the way VVD spoke about climate change at the last debate scared me. Basically 'Why would we fight climate change? Other countries would just pollute more'.

I don't think they will feel comfortable with such a small majority. It gives way too much leverage to a single parliamentary member. In the past four year we saw at least 4 members leave their parties (2 from the PVV and the PVDA, if I recall correctly).

No one is going to let FVD into their coalition, everyone learned their lesson with the LPF disaster. SGP may have some pretty terrible ideas but they are a well established party and not a newcomer who will split into fights over clashing personalities.

Yes this exactly. But I guess you are right that with D66 and either CU or GL there will be a decent presence of climate critical party's in the likely new government.

I agree with the VVD's program that we should mainly aim to fight climate change on the EU level. However, they have not done enough (if at all) in that regard, which is what worries me.

I dislike that our next cabinet is going to be more right than the previous one. Maybe a coalition with GL in it will happen (also my preference) but I really doubt it.

The only worry I have is how wrong polls have kept getting so many things as of late.

These aren't opinion polls, but a prognosis of the results with over 95% of the votes already counted.

And yeah count me in for VVD+CDA+D66+GL being the best (realistic) choice for the nation, but I don't know if GL will lose their base if they rule with VVD and get fucked due to inexperience and smaller numbers (compared to VVD and CDA).

Denk is basically the PVV for immigrants/people with migrant background, similar dividing rethoric except targeted towards a different audience. Plus, the only party that didn't approve of the government's handling of the Turkish affair, which makes people doubt their loyalties.

Still, I am happy for people with migrant backgrounds who seem to have found a voice in the party, I just hope that Kuzu won't turn into a second wilders in terms of conduct now that he's in the tweede kamer.

I think the image that has been created by the NOS that PvdA has been 'punished' for these elections is false.

The reason why PvdA has lost more seats I think has more to do with:
1. In 2012 a lot of people that wouldn't have voted PvdA did so to try and stop VVD from becoming the largest party. PvdA never had these voters tied to them ideologically.
2. Ideologically the left has moved from socialist perspectives to progressive perspectives. SP + PvdA base has been shrinking over the past few decades and the profit has gone to D66, GL, PvdD, 50+ .

They had a graat online campaign and a intelligent staff. I also think they didn't 'steal' their seats from PVV. Their crowd is the euroskeptic intellectual , al least among the People i know that voted FVD. These are people that would never vote Wilders.

It's interesting because I think PvdA should've stayed third way. They got lambasted for it when they lost previously and that they had to go back to their socialist roots. An idea buoyed by SP's popularity under Marijnissen. But it's come to bite them in the ass, because outside of the SP voters noone wants to be associated with socialism anymore.
