If the Pro had UHDBluray support I would already own Planet Earth II. I'm thinking about picking up a UBD-K8500 to attach to my KS8000.
I'm thinking of picking it up. The price isn't too bad. Also going to watch John Wick in UHD soon as well. 4K streaming just isn't up to snuff right now, so I really like the UHD option on XB1. It's been a great player for me. Hopefully Sony's next revision of the PS4 Pro includes a UHD drive. It would only help the format, which is doing alright from the looks of it.
I have a 4K TV & I'm downplaying the exclusion of a UHD drive.
Why? because the Disc isn't a big deal in this day & age & UHD Blu-rays are basically Blu-ray discs using better encoding & as long as PS4 Pro & other media boxes can play new formats UHD Blu-rays will not be missed,
No UHD drive might bother some but not me because I love setting up media severs & it's getting easier for people to manage their own media servers , also you have these cheap Android TV boxes that can also double as NAS & DLNA boxes with large HDD that can send 4K media to your 4K TV & other devices. you can even hook the HDD right up to your PS4 & other devices.
I really don't think UHD Blu-ray with 100GB was worth starting a new format for I think it's a stop gap format that will be mostly overlooked & they will try to replace it with another format in a few years but that format will probably bomb pretty bad.
Same here. No interest in the Xbox. I won't buy a game for it. Would have bought a Pro. Is Xbox still the cheapest UHD Blu-ray player available? All of this text and still no way to watch Planet Earth II in 4K. That's the problem.
I don't wanna have to buy an Xbox One to play blurays but it's looking like I might have to. Oh how the tables have turned from last gen.

is planet earth only available on 4K blu ray?
is planet earth only available on 4K blu ray?
To be fair he didn't say there's no way to watch Planet Earth II on a PS4. He's clearly talking about a 4k disc, in which case options are limited to dedicated standalone players or an Xbox One S. PC drives are coming?
wow. then the answer is yes, the only way to watch it in 4K is via physical media.right now, its 4K/HDR-10 version is only on UHD Blu-ray. there's also a 1080p SDR Blu-ray edition (meaning, like all other standard Blu-rays). BBC has yet to announce plans to license the series to any streaming platforms, let alone plans to stream in 4K/HDR.
i understood that, i was just asking because it looked like he was saying that planet earth 2 wasn't available to stream in 4K, which turns out to be true.To be fair he didn't say there's no way to watch Planet Earth II on a PS4. a poster with something to say.
i don't actually know. i assumed most if not all movies from last and this year so far when released for home media are available on both blu ray and digitalisn't that true for most movies? doesn't seem so revelatory to me
No, I didn't troll. Stop saying that. I posted in that thread, and in this thread because it is of my opinion that scorpio adding that makes the decision to not have one in the pro look worse.LOL! Is it? You have a thread "Scorpio will have UHD drive". Instead you bumped this thread with no reason saying Scorpio will have UHD drive. Yes, you trolled.

I hope that the folks who're so opposed to an UHD-BD drive will have the same reaction if Sony introduces a new model with UHD-BD drive.
Shit, they should've dropped the HDD to 500GB. Give it even more power, silly Sony.

yeah so am I. I was under the impression that most 4K media released to the public would be available via digital and blu ray. i didn't know planet earth 2 was an exceptionI'm talking about in 4k though
No I didn't. Stop saying that.Yes, YOU DID! You have Scorpio thread for that. This thread has nothing to do with Scorpio.

I was kicking fun at Conduit, among a few others As he seems really upset at the thought of a UHD-BD drive in a console. Not opposed... just understanding

Not to pour salt on the wound but I watched episode 1 last night and it was glorious. I would have purchased a Pro and skipped the One S entirely if the Pro would have shipped with a UHD drive. As it stands I went with the One S at launch but I'm waiting on deals for a Pro, so I came around eventually. Got a list of exclusives I wanna get to.
this would in turn mean the most accessible way for consumers to watch 4K is via 4K blu ray then yeah?pretty sure most new releases aren't available in 4k digitally for a while
No I didn't. Stop saying that. What exactly are you even doing here?Yes, YOU DID!
I disliked being called a troll because I'm not one. Simple as that. I'll tell you as many fucking times as you want me to: I bumped this thread to highlight the fact that scorpio will have it because in my opinion that makes the decision not to have in the pro look worse. What, you can't take a punch? If you're happy that Scorpio will have UHD drive and you want something to say about that, YOU HAVE A SCORPIO THREAD FOR THAT. So, bump that thread. Good? Good.
No I didn't. Stop saying that. What exactly are you even doing here?
me? I've been having discussions with other gaffers here. There I asked myself, now I'm asking you, what are you doing here? All I've seen is you coming to pick a fight with me and not contributing to the thread at all and if you say there is nothing left to contribute then why are you here? Other than to pick a fight with me and what fucking good is that? THAT might as well be the trolling and shitposting.Ask that yourself first.
I haven't claimed or implied that it'll sway the tide in XB1 favour. I've even expressed a few pages ago that streaming will keep stay the major content provider: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=231958798&postcount=5318Em....nope. You and similar like you trying to push UHD like next-big thing and because lack of UHD in PS4/Pro hoping that Xbone will turn the tide with that. You should go back to reality and realize UHD is bigfuckingnothing.gif

It is still an non issue for me. I still can't walk into a shop and buy a 4K Bluray. A lot of places are reluctant to stock Bluray's let alone 4K versions.
Looking on Amazon UK and the selection is really limited. I might consider 3 movies and very few there are up and coming releases. Then there is the price 25-30 for a movie is outrageous. I think Sony is correct to wait until a PS5 before adding a 4K player.
It's not a fact, it's an opinion. The divide on that and longevity of this thread is proof of that.Me? I'm just trying to say that UHD isbigfuckingnothing.gif. THAT's a fact.
And you've contributed with what? Picking a fight with me and insulting me nonstop, how is that any fucking better dude? You contributing this thread with "Scorpio will have UHD" thing? Now i've heard it all. LOL! But whatever, do what you want. Go ahead.
It's not a fact, it's an opinion.
no it's not a fact and like I just told you the divide in opinion and longevity of this thread is proof of thatIt's a fact
I don't see xbone turning the tide with anything but as a consumer I am disappointed my console of choice doesn't have it. You clearly don't give a shit that it doesn't but that doesn't mean you have to be a dick about it dudeand it's not big as you want it to be and hoping that Xbone will turn the tide with UHD.

I've explained the intent of the post on this page.
I was in best buy the other day and say how abysmal the 4k selection was. I think streaming is just to big Now physical movies are dying.
How the heck is that a fact? I think you need to take out a dictionary....
Em....nope. You and similar like you trying to push UHD like next-big thing and because lack of UHD in PS4/Pro hoping that Xbone will turn the tide with that. You should go back to reality and realize UHD is bigfuckingnothing.gif

It's a fact. UHD is not big thing. Can you show some sales statistics how UHD is big? You won't find any.

There will always be those who wish to take advantage of, and benefit from UHD and physical media, and in that regard, and as I've said in the past, the Pro not having the UHD drive is unfortunate for those who would like to have it.
There is no disputing that it's unfortunate for those people.
I don't really think there's much else to say beyond that at this point. Sony has done extensive market research to determine whether it made more sense otherwise, and I can vouch from our stores that we see very, very little movement or interest in the UHD push beyond the core enthusiasts, which seem to become an increasingly dying breed on the physical movie side.
Where it will go from there, we'll have to see how it pans out, and maybe the next generation of consoles will help make it standard so it will create a greater demand, or standardization of the format, but I doubt it.
What qualifies as big to you? UHD TVs had significant growth over last year. Amazon, Netflix, and Vudu are expanding their UHD content. Consoles are pushing UHD too. UHD Blu rays exceeded their sales expectations and shelf space is increasing at Best Buy, Target, Wal Mart and other places, not remaining static or shrinking. UHD is growing just fine and is anything but nothing or no big deal.
I see you snuck TVs and streaming apps in there I see and talked about UHD in general instead of the thread topic of the mythical UHD player.
