I thought it all boiled down to "TIGER KNEE" course I'm awful at SF.Didn't people hate SF4 at first because it was "slow and boring" compared to 3S

If Brawl didn't have tripping, many people still wouldn't enjoy playing it. Movement mechanics can make a game more or less fun. Plenty of people here say they hate Little Big Planet because of the weird jumping mechanics, and they're entitled to that opinion. All the above "issues" aren't issues. Not only are they minor, and who knows what will change between now and December, but they don't make the game less competitive or fun. Apparently, some people within the "competitive scene" don't understand that, in the least bit.
There's no tripping. That is what makes a game not competition worthy. Not landing lag, or fucking dash dancing.
I'm losing my shit. Hearing someone say they want this game to fail really pushed a button for me.
Made another quick wallpaper featuring Lucina if anyone wants.
He said all the characters felt trapped in the game engine. Combos and movement were both limited. All that sounds pretty reasonably negative. People like to point to 'still in development', but do we honestly expect big changes this late in the game? Maybe they'll cut down a little on landing lag, but the team isn't going to stop and say "Yeah, they're right. The direction we've been going with the game this whole time is off."Naw, not really. The man just said it felt different from Brawl and Melee when it came to movement speed. He also said "the game is still in development." Which is a big duh.
And we will better know where 4 stands after the actual finished product comes out, and people have more than 36 hours (or way less), with limited 4-way matches with items on, to figure this all out.
That's not fucking playtesting.
These are looking great!Made another quick wallpaper featuring Lucina if anyone wants.
It shouldn't matter if a game is boring to watch, it should matter if a game is boring to play.
probably won't be, if Brawl is any indicator all the announced characters should be available from the start, except possibly the third party ones
Can you make a version of this without the sword icon in the background?Made another quick wallpaper featuring Lucina if anyone wants.

Why won't Nintendo announce the Rhythm Heaven character already so I can finally get the one and only avatar I called :*(
I do not put anyone ignore, and do not hold Internet grudges over fucking video games :lol. Anyone who does that needs to look at themselves, and family-friendly thread? There are dumb arguments in here like every other day, lol.
never forget storkgate tho
Yeah, it was a quick edit.
Only Bowser has it so far (And it might only be on the 3DS version, actually), so it's hard for us to tell whether they were in the process of adding in crouch cancelling when the demo was finalised, or whether they were in the final stages of removing it, probably won't know till release.
To the competitive scene it does matter.
Boring to watch game means smaller viewership which means smaller prize pots which means fewer players.
I guess this is true. I'm not a player anywhere near good enough to get a sponsorship or win a large prize pot, but for those people viewership definitely would matter. If no one will watch you compete, no one will sponsor you. It matters in the competitive realm quite a bit.
For the average player, all the matters is if it's fun That's all I care about. Being accepted and played by the fighting community is a big bonus that will give the game some legs and make some people play it more often (in the same way that kids play sports because they watch them on TV).
What is it that makes Lucina more main material for me than Marth?
Instant classic. A snapshot in time. Captures the zeitgeist.http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2014/195/5/b/not_today_by_matsu_sensei-d7qqta0.jpg[

Might be changed in terms of space they cover or amount of time they last but I doubt the actual attacks will change.
Shame too, most final smashes just don't seem... fun?
I don't think I ever said anything to you but I don't have a good memory and a lot of you blend together sometimes.
There are a few people who I've seen gone "Yeah, that's why I've put him on ignore", so it was just more of a general thing.

I totally agree that we need more time with it though. Having several great players get a few days with it to experiment + a brief public demo is about the best we could hope for. However, no matter what, a few days isn't enough to get a strong feel for the game. We have no idea what is and isn't possible with this game. The future is still potentially bright.
A friend suggested yesterday that Pittoo would be added as a clone of Brawl Pit with the same moves.
Which actually makes sense considering his character's abilities.
Looking at this picture again, I think Lucina might have a taunt where she puts her mask on, and inputting the taunt a second time would remove it (like Guile's sunglasses taunt in Street Fighter).

You mean like having the glide mechanics, etc, because Pittoo had superior flight for most of Uprising?A friend suggested yesterday that Pittoo would be added as a clone of Brawl Pit with the same moves.

Do I need to watch the Falcon Densetsu anime to understand that?

So what you're telling me is that you think it's a possibility for them to make a game, add a mechanic to all of the characters, and then be removing it in the midst of E3? That's... nonsensical. It makes more sense for them to offer the ability to select characters.
It's safe to say tripping was the reason Brawl was never taken serious.
Oh my God! That Chrom / Falcon comic is amazing! It really depresses me I knew exactly what is was referencing immediately.

Sorry if I came off as sarcastic or anything. I actually agree with you here. It's safe to say tripping was the reason Brawl was never taken serious.
I don't care who went and played it at the invitational. That wasn't nearly enough time to make an accurate assessment. I've been in the fighting game community more than half my almost 30 year life. We didn't have proper Location Testing, yet. A few days at Best Buys isn't enough. A day or two at E3 isn't enough.
I don't think we should write it off. I just don't have a lot of hope that any of the already reworked core mechanics will be overhauled again. The hope is that we all learn to play to the strengths of the new game and make it exciting on its own terms. There will be differences. And whatever was easiest to find out, won't be the end of those differences. To write it off almost half a
year prior to it's release based on so little time is dumb.
I don't understand why this is even an argument.
If Brawl didn't have random tripping, it would still be a very similar game to how it is now. It's safe to say tripping was the reason Brawl was never taken serious.
Agreed. Brawl matches honestly need to be reduced to 2 stocks; 3 is too much.I do think that if SSB4 remains slower and more defensive, that the community at least seriously considers the idea of making matches 3 stock/5 minutes instead of continuing to stick with Melee's 4 stock/8 minutes like they did with Brawl, which was absolutely ridiculous in cases like Meta Knight mirrors on Smashville.
Yeah, that whole game is so ridiculous. And hard as fuck. Man, I hope Sakurai's Miiverse comment was hinting they're developing a new F-Zero.Has anyone seen the crazy cutscenes from story mode for f-zero gx?

I love the star-wars-esque world he comes from. Also, his voice acting in that game was silly.

The real question is how do they make him visually distinct from Pit. Change his idle animations? Make his alternate colors different shades of black (like Sonic with the color blue)?
