Press release:

EA said:
Today, Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) announced that the Titanfall® 2 Open Multiplayer Technical Test will be available across two weekends in August for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system and Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft. Fans will be able to get their hands on the fast, fluid, Pilot and Titan gameplay that is at the core of the Titanfall experience while helping the team at Respawn test the Titanfall 2 servers and backend systems prior to the games release on October 28th worldwide.

It all starts the weekend of Friday, August 19th, where fans will be able to play two exciting new Titanfall 2 multiplayer modes across two maps:

MODES
Bounty Hunt (5v5): A brand new mode that pits Pilots and their teammates against an opposing team as well as the Remnant Fleet. Earn bonuses by killing grunts and enemies, but make sure and deposit all your points at the bank between waves without getting killed.
Pilots vs. Pilots (8v8): Players can be the best Pilot on the Frontier and put their combat and mobility skills to the ultimate test in this classic 8 vs 8 Pilots only mode.
MAPS
Boomtown: A secret underground IMC facility where the latest in R&D is put to the test. In this facility Pilots can use the many peaked roofs to use as cover against combatants below. With tight lanes through the middle, Titans can also be easily ambushed.
Homestead: The IMC have claimed Imminent Domain on a small commune’s plot of land. With a series of raised, rocky plateaus and a river running down the middle, Pilots are mostly safe from Titans among the rocks and trees but they also can duck into the caves and building when needed. However, the Titans control the large rolling fields.

During the second weekend of the Titanfall 2 open multiplayer technical test, all the content from the previous weekend will still be available, plus a brand new mode and map for players to enjoy:

MODE
Amped Hardpoint (6v6): A new twist on Hardpoint Domination from the original game; now defending a Hardpoint will let you amp it, giving your team double score. Team work is the key to securing victory.
MAP
Forward Base Kodai: Militia forces have taken over an IMC substation and set up a forward operating base. Pilots can find safety from Titans in the hallways and chambers of the main building, while Titans can walk over the roof to get a better view of the action.

During the open multiplayer technical test, fans will have access to two all-new Titans: Ion and Scorch, as well as a range of Pilot tactical abilities including Grapple, Holo Point, and Pulse Blade. Fans will also have access to a variety of weapons including a deadly horizontal spread shotgun known as the Masttiff and the Alternator, a dual-barrel SMG.

Haven't played Titanfall 1, but the TTK here looks super low. Wouldn't it suit the traversal gameplay better to have a higher TTK? That aside, I'm definitely keeping this on my watchlist.

Excellent, will give it a go

At the moment I probably won't get it due to all of the other games coming this fall (including BF1) but hey, I'm open to changes

It looks like they lowered it from TF1. It used to take a good number of bullets to kill somebody. Not like halo but but more than just a three shot burst in these videos

Not liking a lot of the new gear and abilities. Looks like it's going to go the same route as Call of Duty with gadget overload instead of great player movement, guns, and skill. Definitely excited to give it a shot.

There was a pilot only mode in the original but not many people played it. It was quite fun but the maps were a little large for just pilots. However, player count seems higher here for that mode.

So no Titans for the first weekend?

Seems like we'll still have Titans in all these modes. There's no suggestion otherwise.

Player count was 8v8 in Pilot Skirmish in Titanfall and was in fact too crowded. Again, anyone saying the maps were too big needs to learn traversal.

No, PC was too complicated for this marketing push. I mean technical test.

I surely do hope they have exactly zero major issues with the PC version when the game launches. Not doing technical test on the platform that really requires it (client-side anyway) is a tough decision.

Yep, I'm in for this just like I was for the original game's beta.

Assuming it will be just download the test on console to play rather than signing up somewhere? Already signed up for the newsletter, I think that's the only thing to "sign up" for right now.

I do not like the switch to 3rd person upon doing moves in the titan or on foot. It is visually confusing in every game that does it... in this one especially considering how you otherwise move at strange wall walk angles in FP all the time.

The Titanfall 2 MP Tech Test will be “Open” - no keys required, just download it and play."

Great, will be able to participate in both rounds before I go back to college. I guess they decided to call it a Tech Test instead of a Beta since it is only during two weekends and doesn't include PC.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.

LOL. I guess they threw their hands up and said "yeah, we aren't giving you a server browser so fuck you guys"/no effort into the PC port.

That's fine, I'm cool with that. Saves me money for Battlefield I guess.

Hey, that's not entirely fair.

They gave 2 other extremely weak excuses too.
They're also scared Pc owners can't differentiate WIP from final product and will be upset, and they're also scared dataminers are going to uncover the amazing secret plot twists from singleplayer.

Cool. I thought the E3 trailer looked pretty rad, and I never got to play the first one on the Xbox. I'm looking forward to checking this out.

Didn't know they kept doing this crap up till today. lol

Anyway, can't wait to check this out as the other shooters at the end of the year don't do anything for me.
