I talked about it in an older post:
Ah thank you.
I talked about it in an older post:
Outsourcing can still be cheaper than creating a PS4 version. 360 install base is way higher than the PS4 install base.
If it was a PS4 exclusive this would be 40 pages by now of praise of how Sony can do no wrong this gen.
It's almost fascinating at this point. Been a member for years and have never seen the gaming section like this. It's kinda sad
I'm picking up a PS4 first but I'm sure I'll have an XB1 by the time this launches
Irony: The first Source 2(?) game is likely an Origin exclusive on PC.
There is going to be ADS. How else will the auto aim work? The modern FPS only works because of how accessible it is to the masses. That accessibility works because people get kills and feel validated in their success. The aim assist provides that for most.
It's heavily modified so it may as well be a new engine I'd wager. Remember that Bioshock 1 was made on the same engine a UT2004.
"Gets rid of NAT and router issues"
Now this, if nothing else, sounds like a legit advantage of cloud technology. I, and many people I know, can't count the number of online games that have caused a headache because of these issues.
Plan to use Microsoft's Cloud for dedicated servers and physics and AI calculations

Guys guys, it's a Microsoft exclusive, don't get your hopes up. Remember how Alan Wake PC got delayed? If they want to push the XB1 version, the PC version will be released months/years later.

I can play online, but I still get NAT too strict warnings, hopefully this fixes it.- Gets rid of NAT and router issues
In another section of the magazine there is an interview with Phil Spencer (X1 reveal, TV, Cloud, etc...), but they have a Respawn quote about the Cloud:
Summary:
- It is a huge benefit
- Insures better match quality
- Offloads a lot of work from the client
- Gets rid of player-hosting problems of reducing console resources. Cloud increases Console's available power in multiplayer since this player hosting issue is no longer an issue.
- Gets rid of NAT and router issues
-
Downside:
- Leveraging power in single player must make the game use an online connection

You've gotta be kidding me. So this is where we're headed, huh?
It seems like a new strategy is emerging going into next gen. Publishers' business models are so broken and they think DRM will save them - so they have a strategy of getting gamers to accept online DRM gladly: weigh down games with tasks too difficult for the hardware itself and then offload things like physics and AI calculations to cloud servers. Then they can tell consumers how staying connected to the internet at all time enables all these amazing features. Its SimCity writ large.
Convince me I'm overreacting here.

Surely most of those points are the same benifits as some of last gens dedicated servers?
Makes sense and good to know. I look forward to seeing you flying the same flag in a future Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts threadIf it isn't 1st party, yes. All we've heard about this gen was "PS3 is too hard to develop for," "costs of games are rising," "3rd party exclusivity is a thing of the past"
Both have almost exactly same hardware but PS4 is more powerful. It can't be that expensive in comparison.
Like I said earlier, since this is an EA partners game there is a very good chance it will show up on Steam. Steam is too big not to put a brand new ip on it, there's too many users on Steam.
yeah shits getting pathetic
lol you really think Sony didn't money hat? Sony is the company that made 3rd party exclusives a thing. There's a reason why MK3 was a Playstation game and the Saturn only got MK2.I feel their methods are sordid.
They got developers on board by giving them a platform that didn't break their backs. CD's are super cheap and was easier to develop for compared to the other consoles out at the time. PS2's support was mainly just riding on the PS1's success. Xbox and GC didn't come out until 2 years after the PS2, so install bases were naturally MUCH higher than the other two. So it made developers go there.
Yes, it's in investment. But I think the small details like EA not being able to say shit about the PS4 version of BF4 UNTIL the Xbone version was announced. There is no other reason why they'd do that than money.

This makes no sense.
The cloud is required for the Xbox One version only? What about PC and the Xbox 360 version? If cloud capabilities are used for core components of the game that means we always have to be online with a robust Internet to play the game regardless of platform?
OH you mean that feature that devs stopped providing to PC gamers and downplayed their value? Rebranded with buzzwords for this new generation of consoles. What is old is new again.Surely most of those points are the same benifits as some of last gens dedicated servers?
If you only have the budget to outsource one console version, then take the one you like to get made? Just because the PS3 has a high install base does not mean that you suddenly have more budget. Or are you implying MS moneyhats for the 360 version?
It's certainly possible to include Aim Assist without an ADS mechanic. Halo being the example that comes to mind first.
Not that I disagree though. Infinity Ward if my memory is right were the first ones to come up with ADS in the original CoD. I remember reading PC gamer back then and hearing it called "3d crosshairs".
Blew my mind when I tried the demo for the first time. I like games both ways now though. I have no hate for the mechanic.

The whole "cloud computing" thing seems surreal to me, with the SimCity debacle fresh in my memory.
It has probably been discussed in this thread, but what happens if you're not connected? Judging by this story the performance should drop drastically, since it also outsources AI calculations and such. Besides, what about latency, is it even technically possible to use cloud computing for basic engine calculations?
If it isn't 1st party, yes. All we've heard about this gen was "PS3 is too hard to develop for," "costs of games are rising," "3rd party exclusivity is a thing of the past"
When you have two console manufacturers make porting across the PC, XB1 and PS4 simpler, why cut out a potential platform that could have a huge install base? It's clearly Microsoft putting money on the table to keep the game off of PS4. Do you honestly believe EA , who is publishing the game, would leave potential sales off the table if Microsoft were not fronting $100+ million for console exclusivity? They ported Mass Effect 3 to the Wii U for God's sake...
That's because it is a crock of shit.
Digital Foundry already debunked this canard.
Surely most of those points are the same benifits as some of last gens dedicated servers?
That's exactly what I'm implying. Saying that EA doesn't have the funds to publish a PS3 game from the creators of Modern Warfare is pretty funny. I mean, EA isn't that bad off.
No mention of a single player campaign?
Game sounds more like old school Halo than it does Call of Duty, so I'm mildly interested. Then again, it's Xbox exclusive so... meh.
Sony moneyhatting something is just as bad (Destiny), in this case MS aren't even publishing Titanfall which would most likely be the more acceptable form of moneyhat (Bayonetta 2 lol), consider that it's being released on Xbox 360 and PC as well, you start to wonder why even bother.
That and the interview is nauseating with name dropping cloud etc.
