Now at almost 21,000 recent negative reviews.

By end of day it might hit 50,000. Maybe 100,000 . Who knows. A lot of people arent even home from school or work and it's been going up 1,000s per hour.

This really isn't a big deal, there's no launcher or any extra downloads. Whatever.

All Sony games will require this at some point. Also it really doesn't matter, negative steam reviews didn't stop Rockstar, EA, Ubisoft, Activision, etc. They won't stop Sony.

Crazy. And I was assured that Steam reviews are the pinnacle of accuracy by probably a dozen people here. Practically the gold standard for critical thinking and unbiased analysis, and far more reliable than critical reviews. Heard that for probably 4 months straight last year. What a huge blow to this game from the best minds in gaming.

Do you (or anyone else) know if Steam scrubs their reviews based on user bombing like this incident? Or do just let it happen?

Are some of you seriously going to die on this hill? I swear the internet shows it's worse colors within situations like this. We know the game is what it is yet people want to go on there because of some kind of outrage that doesn't even affect anybody over a stupid thing like a login. And something that was evidently there before and taken out due to it not working.

Either way you got to sit here to yourself while you read this and wonder what are you doing with your life if you're upset about things like this.

This is the hill the PC fanbase wants to die on? PC players act like the most spoiled toddlers, holy shit.

"Sony, you better bring all your 1st party PlayStation games day one to PC! Look at the Helldivers 2 success!"

The same guy, after getting his wish:
"Sony, how dare you ask me for a PlayStation account to play your PlayStation game on PC day one!!"

The entitlement is un.fucking.real.

So...why is this such a big deal? Literally takes like 1 to 3 minutes depending on if you have a psn account already or not. Can only add future benefits I imagine also.

Is this people just crying just for the sake of crying?

Legitly asking.

1. There is ZERO reason for linking a PSN account to your Steam account for Helldivers 2. There's no cross-progression, so what's the point? The game runs fine without it. It's all about that MAU/data and being able to ban players at ease.

2. They releases the game on Steam in regions that don't even support PSN, so those people who didn't want anything to do with consoles, will now have to make a PSN account JUST to carry on playing their game, with zero difference. Problem is, they would need to make an account in another region and risk their account getting banned.

3. These are PC players. They want to run the game and not have to sign up to 1000 different services. Xbox does it well where your saves are saved on the cloud and you can play your game across any device. Sony doesn't do this for Helldivers 2, so there's ZERO reason to force players to link a PSN account.

Why Sony would want this is obvious. It gives their PSN and MAU numbers a huge bump, and it gives them much more accurate data on the PC side.

You get cross progression down the line because of a change like this.

And there is a reason for Sony, they have no banning power over their own game. They have to submit names to Valve and have them ban them now, this would fix that.

I don't expect the average person to care about that, but it makes all the sense in the world for the publisher to want more direct control over their game.

Democracy in action!

Seriously though, regardless of whether this massive batch of negative reviews are warranted or not, I'm glad Steam gamers have the voice they do. I certainly can't point to any other system that is as impactful as this one. I personally have come to rely on Steam user reviews far more than critics.

Good. That's amazing.
Get them in on PS ecosystem. Create psn account. Control cheating, ban if needed. PERFECT.
It's only an account. not a launcher.
that's a good plan. Get people into PS environment, make them create accounts. Then you have them.

Also - imo psn on pc should have paid online... or make it free on console you fucking assholes sony.

Anyway - it shouldn't matter. If I love a game and it got an account required, i would not stop playing it. Especially if it's a multiplayer only game

This boogeyman keeps being thrown around and it's so silly.

You need a burner email and throwaway password to make an account. They aren't asking for your address and a credit card... What exactly are people so afraid of getting leaked or sold here?

Obviously they're afraid that their trophy information will get leaked and then be exposed that most of the platinum trophies come from Jumping Taco games.

We will get cross-progression and also for more games in the future between PC and PS. They already sad working on it, so this isn’t really weird when more of their first party games enter the pc platform.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the average PC gamer these days is an absolute idiot.

> the game has always had a PSN account requirement in the Store page
> the game had a PSN pop-up when you first launched the game (that they don't remember because they immediately pressed skip)
> Arrowhead finally decides to enforce the requirement
PC Redditors/Twits:

The only valid complaint is for those who can't legally make a PSN account in their country, which is far less common than people are making it out to be, and there are workarounds.

All the FUD about leaking data is just like the FUD surrounding the anti-cheat before the game launched. Some folks were just waiting for an excuse to attack the game again, and this is it.

Yeah. Why should anyone give a shit, though?
Sony achievements/trophies aren't more valuable than other types of achievements/trophies unless you are already invested in their thing.
In case they care about trophies and are into it or may get a PS console in the future. Of course those who are in the ecosystem don’t care about this additional email added to begin with.

I see this whole issue as making a mountain out of a mole hill.

I legit don't know why that's a big deal since is pretty standard these days.

Free advice for Sony though, make it optional and give a cool cosmetic or something if you log into your PSN account. (PS players would obviously get it automatically)

All I can add is that this is the pinnacle of fair and intelligent gaming analysis and the score reflects the quality of the game in whole. I learned that on here (for months). Safe to ignore the MC score and just update it with this.

1. There is no cross progression currently, but there might be, eventually. Yes, it is obviously about MAU/Data. God forbid the owners of the game have access to it.

2. No one will get banned for having a different region PSN account. When I first made my PSN account I made a US account because the country where I lived didn't have PSN. It is still my main account like 16 years later. I also have a japanese account, a uk account, a spain account and a Canada account. None of which are banned.

3. The reason is that they want those players in their ecosystem. If you don't want to be in their ecosystem the solution is to not buy the game/refund it or stop playing it.

You don't even have to provide your real data when making the account, just use a fake name and don't add any payment method if you're paranoid.

With Ghost of Tsushima PC adding the PlayStation overlay feature, I figured this is Sony just wanting to make their games cohesive on PC. I didn't think it was a big deal at all, but of course there are folks that will rage.

In addition to the negative reviews, can you imagine the amount of memes that will be created? I shudder to think. I’ve scheduled an emergency session with my therapist. This world is too cruel.

Starfield really broke you huh? there’s of course a difference between review bombing like what’s happening here and what happened with Starfield
