Theres something about NG games which have so much charm. The games were really just 16-bit games on steroids in giant cartridges.
But there's something about the artwork and audio that makes them timeless.
It's too bad NG was a quarter munching arcade focused system. Just imagine if their games used that power and storage to make games with more meat to them like pro sports games or RPGs like Genesis and SNES games for the home market.

Heeeeey, they could release some of the Neogeo CD games on carts.Theres something about NG games which have so much charm. The games were really just 16-bit games on steroids in giant cartridges.

Nice. I'll just print a new cover for it lol.Big Tournament Golf IS Turf Masters. The must have run into a licensing issue with the name.
Any of the fighters. I have a particular affection for Mark of the Wolves.Any recommendations from the games of the site?
Metal Slug is what I always associated with the neogeo but wonder about the others.
Free shipping. What's the problem?
I jumped on this immediately. I have an almost complete collection between MVS and AES, and the fact this is just new productions of the original Hardware means my converters should work fine.
Just need these MFs to rerelease Neo Turf Masters and Stakes Winner. Their release of SamSho V S plugs one hole for me as is.

Nah, you're right... I was just seeing an opportunity to show off my beloved original Neo Geo
Whatever the case, any new product that helps "revive" the development and improvement of Neo Geo games should be celebrated.
PS. I usually prefer to play my retro consoles on a CRT TV, but I also have a scaler that cost me €65 to use my retro consoles on modern screens.
ASIC isn't any more accurate than FPGA. An FPGA can just be rewired which an ASIC is fixed logic.
The MiSTer NeoGeo core was created to get cycle accurate implementations of the various NeoGeo chips to be able to create new versions. I have to wonder if that was involved in creating the ASIC. As FPGA logic can be used to do the design of an ASIC.
Time will tell of course, but all signs are pointing to good. The fact that it's fully backwards compatible with original carts and NOT emulated is a very good sign. Hopefully we have something Analogue-caliber here (though its not FPGA)Easiest pre-order ever! Went for the regular AES+ with 6 games and extra stick, pad and memory card. Excited as fuck for this always wanted a Neo Geo back in the day but could never afford one. Cautiously waiting on reviews/leaks on how legit this is gonna be though and ready to cancel if I get so much a whiff of something stinky.
We don't know the exact hardware in this, but the mention of ASIC makes me think it won't be a one to one copy of the original board layout. I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being a NeoGeo on a chip like has been done of the NES and well as C64. Though as seen with the notorious NES on a chip. Just having something on an ASIC doesn't mean it will be accurate. Or it could be like the C64 on a chip that ended up in cheap TV joysticks but was accurate and you could add ports to connect a keyboard and original Commodore disk drive. Jeri Ellsworth did an amazing job designing that.Well, when I said it's closer to being accurate to the original hardware (or better to say, what I should've said or implied if I did insinuate it was down to one being more cycle-accurate), I meant in terms of purpose-specific ICs, similar to the original AES. FPGAs don't take that approach; clearly, you don't need to go that route for highly accurate replication, but I think it adds to the whole package. Especially when you can also use a shell casing that's 1:1 with the original hardware, too.
Just touches like that really help complete the package for me. And another thing being that with MiSTER (or MiSTer, I guess), is that you have to initialize it and set it up yourself. Quite easy to do, but something like this is just plug & play, hook up the cords, insert a cart and you're off to playing, just like the original hardware. That's a convenience factor some might be willing to spend a tad extra on.
Does it work with flash cartridges, or does it only use the cartridge to load the ROM into internal memory?
By the looks of it, this is going to run the games directly from the cartridge with no in-between processes of loading into internal memory, unlike the older Neo-Geo AES Gold X unit. Playion is going for console accuracy with no emulation or abstraction layers. They have apparently reverse engineered the original graphics core of the Neo-Geo and the M68k and etched them to the ASIC chips that imitate the original hardware as close as possible. Kind of like an FPGA solution, but more hard coded. Highly likely that the new release carts will use some form of Flash ROM's that replace the old mask ROM's, so I would imagine that the system will be able to operate flash cartridges. If it is as hardware accurate as they claim it to be.
In many ways, this AES+ sounds too good to be true. It will remain to be seen how good the final build quality is in comparison to the original units.
Fry's Electronics eventually took over the incredible universe building here.I want this so bad. Got an open box one when a big box electronic store went out business (anyone remember incredible universe lol).
That's said even with the all in bundle being such a good deal, can't drop a $1000 on something like this any more.
Only 1 kid in my grade had it, i heard his dad was rich. Damn you Preston!!!!I love the guys who say AAA games will cost as much as neo geo did back in the 90s. You can easily tell they're young and prob on tik tok all day.
Reality check from someone who grew up in the 80s/90s. Bought SNES and NES brand new, etc.
Neo Geo was only for rich kids. Everyone knew about it but no one (I knew at least) had it.
Adjusted for inflation, Neo Geo cost $1500 when it was released
$1500!!!!!!!!!
That is all. And yes this offering is sick.
Anni edition is the one I want but that white is just not neo geo to me. I might buy black to play and white to not unbox.
I also might just get that damn $1k one.
You'll need a memory card just like PS1, the cart may as well be a non writeable CD rom.Fry's Electronics eventually took over the incredible universe building here.

Always wanted a Neo Geo but it was too expensive. Preordered the white on Amazon. Can you save games on the carts or does it need a memory card?

I really like this game, too. I've never played it on actual NeoGeo hardware, but discovered it due to its inclusion in SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 on the PSP.
It's worth mentioning that the upcoming new cartridge will also add the Scotland course, which was previously only available in the NeoGeo CD version of the game.

The Neo Geo AES+ Version Of Neo Turf Masters Is Hiding An Unexpected (But Bonnie) Bonus
"For the first time on AES"www.timeextension.com
Could it be that he is salty that everyone can now buy a new better Neo Geo console while he had spent probably a lot on purchasing an old Neo Geo and mISTer.
Sega should do the 1 to 1 with the Genesis, with av and hdmi output, like this Neo Geo. 1 to 1 is the new golden standard.
I'll wait for reviews as well. If SNK really manages to get all those points right, meaning it's really as close as possible to 1 to 1 hardware (which in turn means flashcards will work, too), then I'll definitely get one.
This whole idea of bringing back old hardware 1 to 1 with improvements is really good. In the best case scenario it could even lead to an emergence of a new video game market, provided they can get some exclusive games for their AES+.
Personally I've kinda had enough with Genesis stuff (hardware-wise), and I love the Genesis. It was my first ever console. But SEGA treat it like it's the ONLY console they ever made, a lot of the time.
Easy to pick up and play, interface is very user friendly, very good graphics including some pseudo 3D effects, great soundtrack, gameplay is hard but fair, overall an excelent package.I'm hearing more and more about how good the golf game is. To the point where even people who don't care about golf love playing this. What's so special about it compared to other golf games?

No thanks, I'd rather keep enjoying my original one....

They said its compatible with original cartridges.See, this might be worth buying if someone figures out how to get more games to play on it.
Dude, you can emulate Neo Geo games on a calculator. You can literally try it for free before you pull the plug on the actual game.I'm hearing more and more about how good the golf game is. I would have said the big draw with the Neo Geo AES+ is its 1080p HDMI output since it'll save you figuring out how to connect the retro console to a modern TV. However, if I'm being honest, many players would have bought one just for its standard AV output. Since I'm a sucker for using old CRT TVs, I reached out to PLAION to check whether the new system still supports both RGB and composite, and it turns out it'll do both while also offering stereo sound, unlike the OG. Basically, you're getting the Ferrari of vintage arcade systems that goes for $700 on eBay, new and improved, for under $250.
Wait, you never played it? It's great and a bit of a legend, it was so popular at my local arcade the owner put the cart in a dedicated machine.I'm hearing more and more about how good the golf game is.
