No,VNs are super niche even in Japan. Breakout hits are rare.

They're pretty cheap to make though,compared to full fledged big games.

I think 428: Fūsa Sareta Shibuya de was one the best reception visual novels, sold 53k first year or something.

Psycho Pass is worth a watch. It's not a bad show imo,but it felt like it didn't even meet half of its potential and the second half dragged needlessly.
