Everyone saying "don't show her any games" is correct.

However, I will say that showing dudes games on a first date has worked exceptionally well for me.

Tread lightly.

She may have picked up that you liked gaming and said she liked Super Mario World because she's interested in you.

Based upon what you're telling us I'm thinking you're taking too much of a leap here. I would stay away from showing her games

edit: nvm this is a 2 year old post...

Oh right, this.

I didn't end up showing her a game.

We've been together nearly a year and a half.

It was actually my roommate's puppy, and he took it with him when he moved.

I have a cat now, but may upgrade to a dog in the future.

She likes Monument Valley on the iPad and actually showed that game to me on a later date. And I was blown away by how far gaming had come.

Something fun and casual in case she's being disingenuous. A game with dancing.

If you want to risk it, a lot of girls like Mass Effect. Maybe it's Shepard.

How about this? Let's turn this thread into a butterfly effect speculation thread. What would've happened if he had shown her game ...?

I'll go with the first post "Bayonetta"
Girl thinks to herself:"Wow, this bitch is soo tall and skinny....Boy, I'm fat. I wanna go home now and cry myself into sleep"

-> date over: OP stays alone, dedicates all his time to science and finally becomes the inventor of the perpetuum mobile.

Congratulations OP, glad to see a positive post. Now its fair to say that after a year and a half of dating you can finally show her your games.

So, you showed her Sonic 2006?

Real talk, I watched a friend of mine lead a date with showing her through the second level of Child of Eden. Worked super well.

So there you go.

It's Shepard. And Garrus. Mostly Garrus.

On a first date I brought a girl to my apartment and booted up Donkey Konga on the GameCube. She played it. She said she liked it. A few years later she married me.

DO NOT TAKE THIS AS AN ENDORSEMENT

Because now whenever anyone asks her about her first date she tells them the story of how I brought her to my apartment and brought out Bongo Controllers. Her friends all laugh at me. I feel ashamed just writing about it now. I was young and since this girl had mentioned that she likes game a bit I thought it was a good idea.

It is not a good idea.

She only said she liked games to try to impress me she only put up with them because she liked other qualities I had. Once we got farther in the relationship she was comfortable enough to tell me I almost blew it that first night.

I am 99% sure the girl you are talking about is not a gamer hoping to see you collection. If she is, go for it, but let her make the first move. Don't bring the games out, don't suggest one unless she reminds you that her reason for being with you, alone in your apartment is to play video games.

As a happy ending, my wife and I do now play games together from time to time. We beat Super Mario 3D word together and she likes Captain Toad. She can also probably beat most of us at Tetris. But that's about it.

My 2 cents.

EDIT: And I didn't look at the date.

I love it when this thread necros, and this time it's really paid off :D

That's cool you're still together, in a way GAF had a small influence in your successful love life, that's pretty rad.

This thread is like when you find a twenty dollar bill in your jacket pocket that you stuck in there the winter before and forgot about.

Except better.

When I saw this topic again I was really hoping it was the old thread being bumped. It's the opposite feeling I have when I see a "Mighty Number 9 is delayed again" thread.

Here's the real question: instead of showing her a game, did you have sex?

If a date was about to come over I would rather watch netflix but since I use my consoles for Netflix and if any of my digital titles grab her attention then why not

You'd rather do Netflix because "Netflix and Chill".

So, you showed her Sonic 2006?

Sonic 2006 is still technically a game.

Glad things worked out for you. Also how exactly is a dog an upgrade from a cat? That sounds like discrimination.
