If they want a mass-market success they need mass-market media coverage. E3 could help with it.
E3 isn't the crowd that they would want to announce QoL for, though.

I love you for posting this Thanks!

Fellow gaffer Maximilian Dood thinks Nintendo is doing a great thing for Smash fans.
Reggie should take charge of the presentation, even though Iwata has a special charm to his speech pattern, Reggie has one of the best ways of speaking ever.
I mean to me when he speaks, you listen, his delivery is spot on and just feels perfect, you know?
Iwata can come on board for one spot, but I think it'd be smart to let this be Reggie's presentation. Last years E3 Direct had ZERO appearance by Reggie, which I found to be extremely bizarre.
"The one you've been waiting for."
Most of the people who watch the conferences aren't there in person
The ND will probably as long as their regular conferences are without fluff. That logic is very bad.Nintendo doesn't have enough announcements to make, that's my suspicion as to why they're not holding a traditional live E3 conference.
More speculatively, it might be a continuation of Iwata's alleged strategy of making himself indispensable and strengthen his hold on his CEO position by undermining NoA. Least likely in my opinion would be that they're simply incompetent of marketing themselves well, though this is possible given their history.
While as a Nintendo fan I'm fine with Nintendo Directs or similar direct-to-consumer ways of marketing, the reality is the company needs all the help it can get at this point. They need media attention that comes with a live conference, they need buy-in from journalists. Apple during Jobs' time did this very well (though he went, I think, a few steps further into almost masterful manipulation of western media outlets, something far beyond Iwata or even Reggie).
Some are suggesting Nintendo just ignore the grumbles from the media, brushing aside the journalists' call that Nintendo is risking irrelevance. That's valiant and, in my opinion, foolish.

Well, in all fairness, it's not like they will try and de-hype the conference 6 weeks out. Even Sony knows that you have to talk about you 'exciting' E3 plans.

The only people arguing Nintendo will be irrelevant by distancing from the press are the press. Nintendo is being more open than ever and saying fuck off to the self-proclaimed gate keepers of the consumers who are actually the ones reveling in the inclusiveness E3 attendance brings.
Of the bigwigs at Nintendo, yeah, I guess. But otherwise, there's something I dislike about his presentation style. Like at the Wii U reveal itself, it felt bored and robotic.

This entire posts reads of conspiracy bullshit. Holy crap.
A CEO whose at risk of being ousted, who staunchly continues course despite rising disapproval from shareholders, who has clearly been ensuring the board of directors becomes less and less independent of him, doing all he can to stay in his position? There are enough clues in Iwata's actions to raise the suspicion that he is effectively ensuring there are no clear choices within Nintendo to replace him.
I would venture a bet that there are plenty of people following Nintendo's stock professionally who think the same. Anyway, it wouldn't be out of the ordinary at all, it happens very often, whether it's Nintendo or Goldman Sachs.
That being said, it is speculation at this point, though nothing tinfoil-hatish are you're making it sound.
Shit...Now I want to see that. I command somebody make that..! No I demand!Man I wish someone would make a gif with the girl in the meeting talking to Reggie about future plans and when Reggie mentions E3 she says " I thought you weren't going to E3 this year?" Then he blasts her with the laser eyes.
Sure, but have you ever seen Nintendo actually hyping their E3 presence before? Aside from announcing when it will take place.
Your entire argument falls apart in the first few words. Iwata isn't at risk of being ousted. Not even close. There is basically no way, except (literally) violent revolution within Nintendo that Iwata is in danger of losing anything.
That isn't how things work in Nintendo. The board are all friends of his. He won't step down until he decides to.
There aren't enough shares to out Iwata in public hands. Simple as that.god the trash around. Iwata is beholden to shareholders, if they want him gone he is going. the approval rating thing is due soon.

Every single year...
Remember E3 2012 when they announced that they had so much content that they needed four different video streams to reveal all of the information?
Never Forget

The only way he can be removed is by the Board of Directors. And they're all long time friends of Iwata's. It's not happening.

I think all the other stuff will soften the blow of no Live show but I still think a live show is the way to go. Oh well.
Treehouse doing it? If so Nintendo has won E3. I know the haters will disagree but they already won E3 and yall are gonna have to admit it.Well this time the Treehouse guys are doing it rather than Iwata, right? So if they make it as amusing as their Tomodachi Life videos then I'd rather have that than a stage show with stuff such as EA partnership announcements and vitality sensors that don't amount to anything later on
Well, is not like anyone who is passing by can get into these conferences. So unless they invited you, you will need that big projector...
Wut? Unless you had a pass to get into the press conference, your experience will be no different. In fact for an average member of the public attending the show (I assume?) you may have picked a great year as it sounds like Nintendo are putting a lot of effort into their consumer experience this year.
You can't get into the conferences without an invite.
The conferences aren't even officially part of E3.
nintendo had 10, Yamauchi had 10 which some were sold. worst case, 80% are public.
You guys are totally right. I bet Obama would've been fine to not come to the televised debates, he could've just lobbed arguments via Youtube and would've been fine.
Sigh....
It's not even that the arguments AGAINST the press are incorrect. A lot of you are right, they do get in the way of info sometimes.
The problem is it's irrelevant as they're still the way most people get their news at this point in time and to actively piss them off is the height of stupidity (assuming one even believes the conspiracies).
It doesn't matter if it's fair or right, it just is.

I barely even remember that. I mean, I remember the conference, but what were the 3 other streams?
