It gets even more interesting when we calculate the per-play rate, using Mulligan&#8217;s 7.5 billion stream figure. Dividing the rights holder share of total revenue (the $360 million) by the total number of streams, we get 0.4 cents. The mean rate I gave for my own plays last year was 0.37 cents. Remember that CD Baby takes 9% of revenue attributable to me? If we take 91% of 0.4 cents, we get 0.36 cents &#8211; a surprisingly good match.

Deezer may not have a U.S. presence, yet, but they are available pretty much everywhere else and may soon overtake Spotify in terms of user-base.

Next, we&#8217;ll take a look at two variations on the above list, with two different takes on how we may approach the data in terms of what it means for our bottom line.

The first is a stream-to-download substitution ranking: how many streams from each service one would need to make the same amount as for a standard 99 cent download from iTunes. The number to match, in this case, is 63.7 cents &#8211; after Apple and CD Baby have taken their respective cuts. Any fractions have been rounded up.
