If their "aggressive" attempts at international distribution actually result in a noteworthy fast turnaround for US TV airing, I'll be impressed.

That's really the most interesting thing about this so far.

Hope [adult swim]/TOONAMI can find a way to pick this up. Seems interesting

I finally remembered what this show was reminding me of, Valerian and Laureline

which is a totally good thing

More info from the press conference and second Q&A today:

- Bebop was 80% serious, 20% comedy; Space Dandy is 80% comedy, 20% serious.

- Dandy is a positive guy who doesn't dwell on mistakes or failures and just does whatever he likes. He thinks big, doesn't care about small details.

- Meow is very lazy, and uses twitter on her phone all the time. She looks like a cat, but she's an alien from planet Beetlejuice.

- The show will be episodic and they will be visiting a new planet every week. There are many different designers and each planet will be different types and styles of designs for the aliens.

- The main villain is Professor Gel, a gorilla alien who comes up with evil schemes every week. His sidekick is Bee from the planet Cucumber.

- Honey works at a Hooters-like establishment in space.

- The Aloha Oe was designed to look like a canoe because Hawaii is awesome.

- There are about 20 different artists working on the music for Space Dandy, with 3-4 songs per artist. No instruments invented after 1984 were allowed.

- There are already over 100 alien designs, so they can make a really long show if it's popular (?!).

The comedy focus kills the hype for me. I'll still watch it though, for the staff involved. There's enough talent to pull it off.

my goodness

that bit with the different artists explains the multiple style of song in the trailer. I can't be on board anymore than I already am, but I want to be.

Ugh. Apparently Space Dandy is only slated for 13 episodes for now. :(

This...I don't know how to feel about this. I love comedy, but typically anime comedy doesn't work for me. We'll see how it turns out.

Maybe Toonami will step it up, like they did for Big O. Believe?

Geneon USA backed Samurai Champloo from the jump, iirc. It'd be nice if they could do the same from some US licensee again, and get this to a 2 cour.

I don't even know what typical anime humor is, but think of the 100% humor eps of Samurai Champloo. That's what I have a feeling this series will consist largely of, with little live-life inspirational quirps spread about--given the protag.
