I'm hoping that Trump just completely goes blank on some of the questions or gets so overwhelmed by Hillary attacking him and the Moderator HOPEFULLY fact checking his lies, that he just walks off stage.

And honestly, I can totally see something like that happening.

I'm convinced Trump goes blank all the time, and his peculiar way of talking is just his way of trying to remember wtf he's suppose to say.

Can you imagine this idiot on the world stage? It would be like watching a pissy little kid taking his ball, or in his case a Trump jet, and going home.

C'mon Clinton, debating this fool down will be easy.

While I'm sure Hillary will destroy him (not that I believe this would affect any potential outcome), I wish he were debating Biden instead of her for the sheer fuckery of it.

There is something about Biden. I just love watching him debate or give speeches. He does this awww shucks malarkey, scorched earth thing.

The debate moderator should absolutely fact check a liar like Clinton. I'm okay with them treating Trump with kid gloves since he is a political newbie.

He'd get a bump from his base for that. They hate women, minorities and Muslims. They'd applaud him being a chauvinist.

Only the people who already support him would still be supporting him. Maybe even less.

No way would he get any currently undecideds after calling her something like that. He'd fall hard and fast.

The way he destroyed Paul Ryan belongs to history books. He made him look like an incompetent tool, and that's a man with actual political experience. Not only he snatched his soul on live TV, but he did so without looking like a bully and keeping a smile on his face during most of the debate.

I feel like Hillary may come out too stern, which could play straight into Trump's hands if he gets the beating he'll probably get. Biden, though, nobody would acuse crazy uncle Joe of being a bully, even if we all know he would scalp Trump's toupee just for shit and giggles. It would be such an spectacle.

The Biden / Ryan debate was truly the most entertaining debate I've ever watched. I'll never forget it.

I think this is the beginning of bowing out of the other two. He's already said he doesn't think Anderson Cooper should be at the third debate because of how he "behaves" (read into that what you will), and he sure doesn't sound interested in being called out now during the first.

Plus it's Trump. There's four days still, he's not on the stage yet.

While this is true, i'm having a bit of a hard time finding the downside on fact-checking them.

There is an issue here that who the moderator is may affect the fact-checking. If Chris Wallace only fact checks Hillary, and it's on things that are basically true, that's a problem. Breaking ties (like Crowley did) on points of fact is fine, but everybody has inherent biases and there's little to no way it would be even.

People go on about how he won the Primary debates with bravado and yelling over people, but people seem to forget how much of the debates he didn't engage in. Like the one where the other candidates (and the Fox moderators) were very hostile to him and the first half of the debate was just them taking shots at him, the whole second half of the debate, he was very quiet and most of it was Cruz talking about other stuff unrelated to Trump. That was the only Primary debate where he was really on the defensive and he just shut down and melted into the background.

That obviously can't happen here, because it's not going to be 4-6 people on stage, it's going to be one-on-one, him staying quiet and out of the arguments if he's looking bad or just has nothing to say isn't an option. Any time he's not talking, is her talking. Him staying quiet to save face is pretty much just giving her an open platform to a third of the country to talk about her own campaign, and she'll be pressing him on answers he most likely doesn't have, anyway.

Obviously, but then, if a moderator is sufficiently biased, he'll make that bias come through with or without fact checks. As has already happened in this very cycle.

Trump will have answers. The BEST answers. You're going to be tired of how many terrific answers he has. He'll remind us of how we have to be very, very careful with issues A, B, C, D, E and F with no further insights, and how issues G-M (things supported by him at one time, but also supported by Democrats now) were just terrible.

No need to fact check on every little thing. But when Trump says his tax plan is debt neutral, he should absolutely be called out by the moderator. His tax plan adds $5.3t to total national debt. Or when he says he was against Iraq war. Or that he can fly. Come on, some things are 100% wrong with zero room for dispute.

If Hillary says 20 vets a day commit suicide and later Trump says, "actually, it's 22" I would hope for a moderator to be able to jump in. Otherwise it's just the two of them playing "screaming numbers," or "numberwang!"

I still believe a little bit that Trump is doing all this shit as a joke to show how bad American democracy has become

His stupidity is already so obvious in everything he says though. I just don't see how there's anything else to reveal about him.

It's not that obvious. He's very good at saying very little for minutes at a time and creating the illusion of substance. Folks that aren't buffaloed by that see through it pretty easily, but plenty don't.

Moderator should break ties. The truth's the truth, and if someone's presenting it accurately while the other person's trying to obfuscate it, the moderator should step in and shut it down.

Anchor expectations incredibly low then even average or below average performance appears to be a win. It is classic contract negotiation tactics and he does it all the time.

He doesn't want fact checking because he wants to be a loud bully, with shitty comebacks that sound like "gotcha" and get away with it.

I hope he has diarrhea the night of the debate.

I expect Trump to have at least one "Aleppo" moment.

There is no chance of that happening. What made the "Aleppo" moment a big deal was Johnson admitting that he didn't know what it was. Trump would never, ever make the mistake of admitting he didn't know something. He'll just bullshit and ramble like he always does.

I wonder how long it will be before Trump suggest that Hillary should not be allowed to debate?

The killer of Ben Ghazi
The mass deletion of 33,000 emails
The Founder of ISIS
The starter of the Birther movement
A woman on her death bed.

She shouldn't be up there I tell you.

No, they just think she has had an absolute terrible foreign policy. She's not liked here by a lot of people on left, centrum or right.

It's communists, socialists, socialdemocrats, even some conservatives that calls her that.

and they should be fucking embarrassed about that because it is incredibly foolish but then again the tea party left is just as batshit as the tea party right.

Yep. He'll do his "excuse me" routine and then say that he's trying to "make America great again," hoping for the audience to cheer so he can move on.

We saw this happen on the nuclear triad question early in the primaries.

It's either that or each person calling the other a liar and asking people to google the truth as the moderator moves on :/

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
If the debate OT isn't "Holt And (Someone's Pants) Catch Fire" I'll be very disappointed.

Trump has been trying to make up any excuse why the debate isn't going to go his way for weeks. I definitely think he'll be graded on a different scale than Clinton, but honestly I don't know how much that will matter. He doesn't have a good amount of policy knowledge and all the debate prep in the world isn't going to make that come out off the top of his head under pressure. He never had an amazing performance at the other debates, he was just shielded by the fact that the field was so crowded.

I give him props for knowing how to play the shit out of racist morons.

The man has turned the idea of "facts" or general knowledge into some liberal communist socialist sharislamist agenda.

This will be supported by his base.

As I said before though. He's going to walk all over clinton. This isn't going to be a debate, it's going to be tv entertainment. Trump doesn't need to do anything besides what he's always done. Loud things and subterfuge.

Folks thinking this is going to be any form of a civil event are forgetting that he isn't a politician and doesn't pretend to be. His base loves him for it.

Hillary is like Peyton Manning. A great political talent that knows how to bend truth but it's time to hang up the cleats. Trump is like a seasoned sophist playing the game beyond his years.

Well, the reports a couple of weeks back were that he was being difficult in debate prep, wouldn't do mock debates and during one meeting was more interested in having hot dogs than paying attention. Who knows if it's still that way or not, but he's doing plenty of rallies still, and Kellyanne, his campaign manager, looks exhausted as hell.

Donald Trump, the brave and courageous leader this country needs. I would not be surprised if he pulled out of the debate at the last second what with all these excuses.

The debate moderator should absolutely fact check a liar like Clinton. I'm okay with them treating Trump with kid gloves since he is a political newbie.

I didn't know Dana Bash was on GAF.

Trump doesn't want a third party being unbiased so he can continue to use the public's perception of Hillary being untruthful to his advantage when he lies. Why should they believe Hillary when she says Trump is lying?

If the moderators actually let Trump get away with this then they have failed this country. They need call out when Trump lies.

He's setting up his excuses. If they correct him, liberal media bias. If they don't correct him and Hillary tries to, she's lying. He thinks he's safe no matter what.

He should introduce the debates like he does Dateline.

"How has this man gotten this far? Tonight on Dateline NBC, 'The Art of the Steal'. I'm Lester Holt."

I disagree. Trump failed hardcore even in that fluff Lauer interview. Hillary is not a GOP cardboard stand in like Jeb, Marco or Cruz. She is going to be the most debated person ever to run for office (with over 40 debates in her resume). We saw hints of her tenacity against Bernie resulting in those bernie finger wags and she never fully unloaded on him because she needed his coalition.

She is not trapped with Trump on that stage. Trump is trapped with her.
