Isn't this the first time ever Sony has gotten the better multiplats? PS1 I'm not sure they probably did. PS2 they definitely didn't since Xbox came out much later with better hardware. PS3 they usually didn't.

PS1 games had usually had more features and better music for multiplats vs. N64 multiplats but the N64 multiplats looked better.

sooo, first time this gen that a dev has laid out differences like this, even before DF analysis or anything?

Am I crazy for thinking the 360 and PS3 versions look incredible, given how old and outdated the hardware is?

Its Kojima, he would impress on any hardware.

You don't get it.

They INVENTED DirectX.

It's funnier when you think about how the original xbox was almost called DirectX-box

Maybe Cerny lent Kojima a hand with the PS4 version?

I am quite familiar with the hardware specs of the consoles.

The PS4 is ~1.88 times faster in fillrate, which is the one metric where the difference is largest. In all other metrics the difference is smaller than that. On the other hand, the number of pixels for 1080p compared to 720p is 2.25 times as many. I just don't see that happening at a better framerate.

If that is actually the case, it most likely means that they invested more effort into the PS4 version.

Isn't this what third parties did last gen since 360 versions usually sold more? PS3 exclusives almost always looked better than 360 exclusives but mutliplats were often disastrous on PS3.

Yup, that esram total is not enough for 1080p with high level of graphics quality. MS should have went double the amount.

How much would double the amount have cost them anyway? It feels like they went super cheap on purpose just because Kinect was so expensive.

If the PS4 version(1080p 60fps) ends up having a more stable average framerate than the Xbone version(720p 60fps) I will literally lmfao.

My point is if you care about resolution and frame rate, you need not to look any further than the PS4. If that is what you care about, 9 times out of 10 the PS4 will deliver over the Xbox One. I would like to think most people who do care about such things have already purchased a PS4, and thus making threads like this meaningless in terms of consumer knowledge. In the case the consumer doesn't care about these things, that also makes the thread meaningless.

EDIT: Unless you were giving an example in which the consumer already has both the PS4 and Xbox One. In that case I agree with you.

Many find the tech side very interesting. Another part is that ps3 was the butt of gaf jokes for years because of lesser ports, so it's kind of stunning to see the turnaround.

so Konami just straight up produced some comparison shots and tables instead of trying to obfuscate questions about the differences?

Kojima, not Konami. Although I suppose they "allowed" him to do it.

Then again, what wouldn't they allow him to do lol, he's their biggest asset.

doubt it. ps4 is just more powerful. even so, kojima opened for the xbone e3.

I find that unlikely, since they already are at 720p on XB1. At that resolution they should have no trouble fitting all rendertargets into the ESRAM.

Which is why they can stay at 60fps.

It is the scene rendering that is killing the X1. AMD puts 32 ROPS into any card designed to run at 1080p. I just wonder why MS did not push for 32. It is not new information or anything, AMD had been doing the 16 ROPS on the lower end cards vs 32 on the higher end for quite some time now.

Yup, that esram total is not enough for 1080p with high level of graphics quality. Especially for open world games that eat up a bunch of memory. MS should have went double the amount.

They went with 8transistors per bit configuration, making this 32MB of ESRAM taking up 1.6 BILLION transistors. Chances of them going to 64MB were really low. Chip would be either too large, or they would need to downscale GPU...

It's funny, the roles really are reversed in so many ways from laat gen. I remember countless PS3 ports being inferior, though that was due to difficulty in development rather than inferior tech.

I'm glad they didn't go with it. DirecX-box 360 sounds really weird.

Maybe Cerny lent Kojima a hand with the PS4 version?

Cerny gave him a nice and relaxing bubble bath in his tub.

Kojima said "I rike it"

Then they started working furiously on getting the PS4 version running at 1080p/60fps.

When they finally finished working on it 9 months later, out came a beautiful Metal Gear Solid game. So they named it "Ground Zeroes".

what? esram is expensive, and that is why they can only get 32 mb.

going double would instantly mean the xbone would be more expensive and it would produce more heat. just wasn't happening.

The images in the OP are PNG, but there is artifacting in it :/ what's the point of the PNG then.

The Xbox One version doesn't really look that much better than the 360 one. Surprised they couldn't at least get 900p or something.

kojima being there was more MS talking to konami than anything else. Im pretty sure at that point, the footage was still being done on a PC build with specs equivalent to next gen consoles.

multiplatform games were crappier on the ps3 for the first two years but eventually developers learnt to code for the ps3 design and things evened out quite a bit.

the same will likely happen this generation although the sony version will likely always have a slight edge due to extra hardware power.

I don't know the cost but I'm guessing the esram is the most expensive aspect of the apu. It might have been a case of size too. The esram takes up a lot of space, so perhaps MS didn't have time to rework the motherboard.

Make that 10 out of 10. It is physically impossible for an Xbox One edition to outperform a PS4 edition (unless maliciously tampered on the software side).

I'm guessing Kojima Productions only went multiplatform because Konami really needed them to. Kojima was always the perfectionist. Sticking to one platform and maxing it out as much as his team could seemed to be the way he liked to do things.

He clearly wants people to play the best version of his games (I think he's even said so), even if it takes making the XB1 and current gen versions look bad.

Holy shit, somehow I read XBONE having 1080p and wasn't understanding what all the posts were about. lol I guess E3 was just a setup for this massive trolling against MS. Kojima you sly FOX.

So is that only for GZ or also for The Phantom Pain? The site only mentions GZ.

I suppose the Xbone situation could improve but GZ is literally just a sectioned off part of The Phantom Pain. It'd be like Virtuous Mission running at a different resolution than Operation Snake Eater.

Some missing grass and stones for the PS3 version? Not bad.
TBH, I expected the old gen versions to look worse. I'll probably get this on PS3 and the full game on PS4, given that by the time it releases, I'll probably consider the next gen proposal more attractive.
