PCSX2 1.2.0 released! Emulate your PS2 games at high resolution and frame rates.

Only on GPU performance. The GPU is absolutely fine, the CPU will probably cause some slowdowns though.

This. 2.3ghz is a little on the low side and lowering resolution won't speed it up any. If it's a true quad core (I know some i5's aren't, especially mobile variants) then MTVU hack could be enough to get it running full speed in most instances.

I thought this might be a good place for an answer, since I'm guessing some people may be using DS4 controllers for this. Does anyone have a fix for the left thumbstick not reading the diagonal directions for the DS4?

Here's an example on the test game controller screen (I'm just circling with the left thumbstick here):
ipRjnYqnZyJkn.gif

It won't hit the corners for some reason. When I'm playing a game like Rogue Galaxy my character walks when I go in diagonal directions, but runs when I go left right or up and down. Anybody else having this problem, or know a fix? I tried to go to pad configuration on PCSX2, but the sensitivity settings is darkened for me.

The results from the test game controller screen screen are the expected behavior, since the sticks have a circular gate. I'm not sure why PCSX2 would have problems with that, since it's been years since PC sticks with square gates have been common.

This. It shouldn't be an issue in PCSX2 (never has been for me either). You can manually adjust the sensitivity for the sticks in PCSX2 if you want to compensate if need be.

How would I go about doing that? I can't change my sensitivity options on my controller in PCSX2, because it's grayed out for some reason. Any option I need to change to open up the sensitivity options?

You have to select the individual axis bindings on the left side before you can change the sensitivity (not sure if it'll work as planned though, never needed to adjust anything).

Thanks! That fixed my diagonal problem. Now my characters are running correctly in every direction now.

Hi, don't know if anyone can help me here but I seem to run int oa slight minor problem when I run Castlevania: Lament of Innocence. I notice that rarely when I went to another room it would sometimes freeze for a sec then go back to normal after a few seconds and was wondering if anyone here knew about it or how to fix it.

Weird, I have a slightly worse cpu than you (3570k) and FF XII runs perfectly, no slowdowns whatsoever. I do have a slightly better GPU than that but afaik, it shouldn't matter much. It's possible your problems stem from somewhere else than lack of performance.

Try again with the default settings and if it doesn't help, tinker around with the speedhacks. Some games get massive boosts from them with almost no glitches.

e: no wait, didn't notice the "highest settings" part. i assume you mean like 6x native res etc? cause those settings, i believe, do require quite a bit of the gpu too, and yours isn't very powerful

ahh right, i think i set it to 5x native res.

still looks good at 1080p though.

still getting a lot of audio problems, like crackling and stuttering

Is there any way to enable VSync? I've searched within the emulator, with Google and within this thread, but they either removed it and never implemented it back, or I simply suck at searching. :D

The cutscenes can get away with it because they're directed and have cinematic models. Ingame there's pretty noticeable LOD with the environment and especially character models. I've always been curious as to whether someone could mod or write a cheat to disable the LOD transitions, I imagine a remaster would just keep the cinematic models always displayed.

I'm really curious as well now, is there anyway to do this ?

Just tried this for the first time ever on my new PC. i3-4130 and R7 260X, 8GB Ram. Is it normal that the text is blurry? Everything else looks sharp. Have everything on max settings.

Well yeah, if you've got high internal resolution, text and everything else 2D will obviously look very blurry compared to the 3D stuff.

Unless it's super blurry. In which case it's probably a known problem with a particular game and you should google it.

Try going into your control panel, power options (or just type power options in your start menu) and changing your power plan from Balanced to High Performance if you are on Windows 7. It might apply to 8 too. PCSX2 is one of the emulators I've found that can stutter more when using the default Balanced profile.

Ripped some games from my shelf (apparently my copy of Shadow is Japanese?), and took some screenshots. They don't run as smooth as some of the more tested titles, but they're pretty to look at.

Shadow the Hedgehog

A lot of PS2 games contain multiple languages/etc and they go by whatever the default is in your bios. PCSX2 can also have an issue with some games where you "fast boot" it won't "read" the region information correctly and will use the "default" for the game.

Tried playing Guitar Hero 2. Not a good idea lol, I'm not sure if it's video or audio lag from the game needing calibration or from it being emulated. I've tried everything and it's still really difficult to play well on Expert. It's not me, I've been playing GH/RB on Expert for years. Oh well.

went into my closet and found some old ps2 imports im going to try ..

Yoshinoya
Gundam: One year war
Front Mission 4
VF:4 evolution
Simple 2000: Earth Defence Force 2
Gradius 5
and some cave shmup featuring a fat chick riding an insect

I'm amazed that P3FES is running so, SO much better. No slowdown during battle, no glitches in the portrait art, nothin'. It's almost like a full PC release.

Persona 3: FES

I've been very pleased with FES via PCSX2, as well. If only we could replace the art/UI assets with something HD-appropriate. :(

Shadow the Hedgehog

Kinetica

Shadow of the Colossus

Kinetica ran fine for me.

I'm having a blast playing Final Fantasy XII with a 360 controller sitting in my couch, with widescreen cutscenes without black borders, and screenshot functionality of capturing the 2K rendered Playstation 2 assets. Here are some shots that I've posted elsewhere

Damn it's good to be playing on a PC.

Holy shit

I've been trying to track down FFXII, but haven't seen it on Craigslist and the two Retro shops I checked were far too expensive.

Got a small question :

Is the widescreen patch automatically applied to the game as soon as you start a new game or do you have to drag the whole content of the widescreen, rar file into your cheats file .

Reason i am asking is because i tried to start kingdom hearts and it did not detect any cheats to be used.

just look anywhere else, you will trip over a stack of $3 copies

but you guys should get into IJZS instead. not even worth bothering with the original release

Has anyone tried Primal?

Does it work with the new version?

I have a pretty decent powered laptop GPU wise (NVIDIA, I7 processor 8GB gddr5 ram) but my cpu is slow as hell at 2.40 ghz....:( I can only run some games at 2-3x specs without slowdowns :(

Should I look into Overclocking my laptop? I've never tried overclocking but I heard it doesn't go well with laptops

I really need to man up, hype up and give an honest shot to FFXII.

I've been avoiding it (playing other games that felt more important to me) since a while, yet I'm playing Bravely Default and DK atm. Soon, I guess. :/

Is Ape Escape 3 good? I loved the first one and never player the sequel.
