This has probably already been covered, but doesn't Watch_Dogs have people walking around in the city? Infamous has no pedestrians or vehicles, though, right? (Admittedly I don't know that much about Infamous: Second Son, and I do think its graphics look amazingly impressive. I'm just wondering about this one particular point.)
There are pedestrians and vehicles. I would guess WD's Chicago is bigger than SS's Seattle and the density of pedestrians and vehicles is higher in WD.

Pedestrians flee when you start engaging in combat though, so if you only watched a little amount of footage that involved combat then it could look there are none.

inFamous has pedestrians as well as vehicles... you can't drive them though

it also has wet surfaces and some form of reflective surfaces

^^^benny is likely right with the map size of the two games

Um, there's both vehicles and pedestrian in the very first pic of the OP. (So much for reading the OP...)

inFamous has vehicles and pedestrians, you just can't enter them and drive them and the people can be like used to for fodder.

This game looks really damn good. I love their use of colour. Can't wait to play it and what's best is that it's a worldwide release and I don't have to wait until a Friday :p

Actually on the latest Podcast Beyond one of the Devs said the city is about the same size as in previous infamous games. No it didn't take forever on foot. You didn't need to fast travel with super powers. The only hassle was crossing bridges.

No he didn't. He said it was 50% bigger than New Marais.

The comparison is pretty valid. Sucker Punch is an 80 man team, while the Watch Dogs team is a 500 person team, and yet Sucker Punch has produced a game of incredible visual fidelity in 2 years. I can't say how Watch Dogs looks, because I haven't really been following the downgrade stuff, and the game hasn't released yet, but Ubisoft has been working on Watch Dogs for 5 years. Sure, across multiple platforms, but when has that stopped a PC or high end version of a game from looking leagues better than its console counterpart.

With that big of a staff and dev cycle, I'd honestly expect the game to look pretty incredible.

I like the way they handled the split between the old fictional locations and now Actual Seattle; of course, the fictional coast has been obliterated. No fuss, no continuity muss.

Thanks for the info, guys. Am I right in thinking that building a persistent open world is a bit more difficult if you can interact with the vehicles? Then again, maybe in Infamous this immersion in the open-world environment is devoted to the powers? Again I don't know much about the game but my understanding is that, like in Red Faction with its Geo-Mod technology, the environs themselves can be affected by the powers. (FWIW, I did read the OP, but the pedestrians in the first pic are kind of in the background so I didn't catch them.)

Well the thing about open world games, is that they tend to look a little less polished/complete than more linear games, because the devs have to account for the player moving in any direction across a large world without warning. The real stress comes from that act; so GTA and the like need to account for loading and displaying the game world fast enough for the fastest cars, jets etc. In Infamous you can move faster than a car so the problem is the same. And yeah it looks like they have a few destructable environment type pieces (the DUP towers) but I doubt it's like Red Faction. More like elaborate physics rigs built into the sets.

That's all really interesting, and good to know. Thanks for the info man!

They're not comparable in any way. I'm sure if Sucker Punch was handcuffed by last gen consoles and to port to 5 different platforms Second Son wouldn't look like that

But Ubisoft have done this to themselves by giving us a lasting image of Watch Dogs based on a completely unrealistic target render. They made the first impact of that game almost entirely about the visuals, and now they can't live up to that standard they themselves created.

Second Son is definitely a break through graphical wise. Would love to see how strong The Order 1886 and Uncharted 4 stack up against it in that department.

Decision of what kind of game they want to make is down to the studios themselves, not Sony doling projects out to them. Talk the individual studios out of it, they're the ones who decide they want to make FPS games or something else entirely. 'Course you might have a hard time with Guerrilla seeing how their FPSes continue to sell millions despite the fact they aren't apparently "strong" enough.

4 Million skipped out on killzone shadow fall...

Killzone is a good franchise same with Resistance.. Lets just hope they don't get dragged through the mud for this whole entire generation.. Do more with IP

They're going to curbstomp it, what with being more linear games and all. Arkham Knight will probably make for an interesting comparison though being current gen exclusive.

Not sure what this has to do with the reality of the technical situations and context of both games. The target render only affected expectations (which I agree was a mistake).

This game seems to have a bit of a Sleeping Dogs thing going on -- all the shots at night are simply stunning, but the daytime shots are a bit blah in comparison and the overworld city shots look kind of bad.

Fortunately, it sounds like they really stepped it up in the gameplay department such that the player isn't likely to fixate on any blemishes here and there.

It realistic then. Most citys look FAR more visually stunning at night! New York is a prime example, all the glaring flaws evident during the day are washed away in shadow and glowing lights at night. But, serious, I think the day time shots also look nice, and I suspect look awesome in motion.

WordsintheWater, why dont you send few images to some other gaffer via PSN message? That way we will get the chance to see uncompressed images [KZSF got up to 900kb, all yours were ~200k].

I'm not sure if I have any gaffers are on my friends list, I'm willing to do that, they can just add me and I'll send em to them. My PSN name is forgot10 (yea, I liked Linkin Park back in the day, shameful times). Someone add me if they want to post uncompressed pictures of my shots, I'll gladly send them a message.

I'll send you a PSN friend request and I can help out. My ID is HardCorrFan so feel free sending me your screenshots and I'll post them here on your behalf.

What?=O Just because it was captured at that file size doesn't mean it's uncompressed, for example, my old capture card did KZSF screens at 1MB and yet they were still compressed due to the encoding of the capture card. Heck even when I used PNGs they didn't look all that different due to my old capture card. In motion there would be artifacts.D= My new capture card captures everything uncompressed though.

I kinda disagree. Well, surely rain & night give it's best with all the reflections & light sources, but I don't find it less impressive at all in the daytime. In any case, inconsistence it's unfortunately mandatory in a free roaming. I'm quite impressed until now because nothing of bad it's appeared, but I'm expect some 'weakness' in different areas in the full game. It's part of the games.

So I'm guessing if I sent you the pictures you would be able to capture them uncompressed, sorry I don't know how capture cards work haha.

Got the first batch of screenshots from WordsintheWater and here they are in their uncompressed glory.

These are 400-500kb screens, 1080p screens need around 1MB to be fully uncompressed.o_O

Nah, it has to be from the capture device itself. It's why I never, ever use the PS4's share function.

Cool man, can't wait to see your shots then because as good as these look, they look even better on my TV.

Yeah, I'm afraid you're right. I just found that the files are in .jpg format so that only means they're also compressed. However, they are full resolution versions making them better than the ones shared on Facebook and/or Twitter. I have corrected my post to say full resolution instead of uncompressed.

I really can't believe we're getting open world games this pretty this soon.

I'm scared to imagine what GoW4 will look like.
Scared?, wait, why would you be scared of all things lol.

Man the jump from the first Infamous to this one is incredible, like 3 gens apart, holy crap this game looks good.

I thought the ones on Facebook/twitter are full resolution as well. They are just compressed to hell. You should probably just say "better screenshots" :D
