NeoGAF, welcome to .webm - the FUTURE (of burning out your CPU)

Version 1.3 is amazing. Only thing I can think of that would make it better is if .webms with sound had an unmute/mute button in the top corner, like a Vine video.

Anyone know why I sometimes get files in here that say "invalid source"? It also happens 100% of the time on 4chan.
I'd set whatever webm embed thing you have to exclude 4chan, since they've got their own system set up. The files here that say "invalid source" might be 4chan files that expired.

Quite the showcase with black boxes on the first few pages. lol

The ones that weren't linked from some temporary source look ace. Thanks for the chrome extension.

How do I update from 1.3 without having to uninstall the extension?

1. Go to chrome:extensions in the URL bar
2. Click the "Developer mode" checkbox in the upper right
3. Click the "Update extensions now" button

I think that might do it, but it will fetch all the updates at once so WebM for NeoGAF might not be among the first.

WOAH!! This is truly the Next Gen Gif! First I was disappointed that some webms were lagging and some not, but then I enabled the option hover-to play so I can decide which gifs will play and so butter smooth 60 FPS!! Wish it would be less CPU intensive though, doesn't WebM uses the GPU?

Autoplay option does not currently work for me in the firefox add on (have it clicked but still does not load and play; have to do it manually).

Great quality. Gotta make sure I get the encode process down.

Maybe I'm just stupid but I can't find in this thread how to create the format and how to format it.
If I have a .mp4 can I still make one in photoshop and just need to render it differently?
Also how to post it in a forum post still with
?

Check out the webm OT. You can't embed them into the forums yet. We're using extensions to have it embedded.
Photoshop doesn't support the format afaik. Use what's listed in the OT.

You use ffmpeg to convert video files to .webm, and then just post the link in here. Normally it just shows up as a link because GAF has no support for it natively, but using one of the many extensions (I'm using a slightly modified version of the greasemonkey one) you can embed them here.

Gorgeous, but CPU usage is nuts. I'm on my work PC, i3 3.3ghz w/ 4gb ram, and it goes from 1-4% to 85+. But it's totally worth it.

I have an issue with the new extension.

Using Chrome to view them in, and they play fine except that now with the update to the extension when I click Fullscreen the're always scaled to a maximum width of 500px, which is in the settings. I want the max-width for browsing on GAF but I do want to view these in fullscreen when I click.

Thanks for the extension (and at a fast speed for implementing it)

"GIFs are great. What? 20 year old technology? I don't care. These epic Tumblr GIFs are perfect."

"Oh, you mean compression and loading technology has gotten better in the last 20 years? Who knew!"
