I highly doubt the movement we get will be anything like what people are thinking of when they see the trailer. While the game may be colorful, I honestly only think Mirrors Edge is the only game in years that nailed the fluid movement from trailer -> gameplay. It's hard to do on a console controller, and no dev has really perfected it (Brink is pretty good, but everything else about it sucks).

Have you tried Titanfall yet? It nails this type of movement, and while nothing is perfect, Titanfall gets pretty close.
Titanfall is third person, meaning the animation does not impact on your feeling of the movement. It also doesn't have to be incredibly detailed.
Overdrive is third person, so we'll see. I just think that's a bad comparison.
I don't think it's a bad comparison. Of course FoV changes and third person animations change things, but I think if anything it would be harder to nail this gameplay in first person. Since SO is very stylized, I imagine its animations would be a bit easier to create than realistic looking ones.
I think it can be done. Titanfall handles pretty well on consoles... I'm thinking this game will be more Jet Set Radio Future though.
Or something like this!
I've never played Jet Set anything. That game looks fucking dope.

The trailer makes it look like SO has platforming too.
Traversal looks a lot like Titanfall actually, with the wall run into the line grapple. That's exciting for an open world game.

Lol, look at the gif right above your post.
I did... Now, actually read my post.
I said first person comparison is useless. Nothing else. Not that you can't create good movement in third person.
I did... Now, actually watch the entire gif.
Some of it is in first person, and some of it is in third person.
Fuse was destined to bomb as soon as the name was changed to "Fuse"
Sunset Overdrive on the other hand has a chance to be at least as successful as "Resistance" and "Resistance 2"
Yeah, I am still missing how that is at all relevant to what I posted.
Nope, not even close. Military/Scifi FPS will inherently will sell more than a game with a wacky art style. Sad I know
Insomniac where is my R&C game for PS4?
Sunset Overdrive being an early game out on a console that doesn't have much to play should help it though.
I mean, I'm pretty sure more people (Xbox One owners) will be willing to give it a chance.
How? You said that 3rd person was a negative when it comes to parkour style movements. The gif demonstrates that it works well, both in 1st person and 3rd.
I even asked you to read my post.
No, I never said anything negative about 3rd person parkour. I said comparing Overdrive and Titanfall is useless, as one is 1st person and one is 3rd person.
If Insomniac make a good game and Microsoft put the proper marketing budget behind it I'm hopeful it'll sell well.
Doing stuff like hardware bundles (as ntkrnl said) will help too
What is with these kind of posts recently?
You said "No, parkour can't be done well."
Somebody responded "Yes, Titanfall did it."
You said "Well, but Sunset Overdrive can is third person, so that's not a good example.
I respond "Fair enough, but here is a gif showing that it can be done well in third person. Titanfall proves it can be done, and that gif further proves it can be done, well even, in third person view."
Don't make stuff up, go back and actually read the posts and who posted them. That post doesn't exist, you assumed it existed.
I said simply and purely, that Titanfall is a bad comparison.
In a world where Assassins Creed, Infamous, Brink, Mirror's Edge and Prototype exist, I would never say parkour can't be done well. 3rd or 1st person.
You're going to have to explain this reaction to me.
I'm trying to imagine what the multiplayer will play like?
It does have multiplayer, right?
Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive has an offline campaign in addition to a multiplayer mode, developer Insomniac has confirmed.
Xbox Tumblr recently put on some concept art for the game.

man, we're gonna have some explaining to do to Mike's wife.
I wouldn't get your hopes up. Insomniac released a statement a few years ago saying that they didn't think 60fps was worth pursuing anymore. It just occurred to me how much more excited I'm gonna be if this game is 60fps.
60fps at 900p sounds like the sweet spot to me.
Can't wait to see the first gameplay.

The people coming into a exclusive thread and stating it's cool but still not getting the console, hence....RDJ.gif

Resistance 3 had one of the best motion blur implementations that I've seen so I'd expect this to have good motion blur too.Hmm, yeah. I recall that.
I guess I'd be fine with 30fps if it had some nice motion blur. It's not like this is gonna be Call of Duty first person shooting. It would just be a cool surprise if it was 60.
