Nintendo : buy Mario Kart 8 on the eShop or retail, get a free game

this is a pretty smart move

obviously they expect mk8 to move some wii us, so essentialy the mk8 bundles become two-game bundles

forces you into digital download, too, which attaches you more strongly to your console

So... I'm in Scandinavia but I haven't registered my Wii U or created any NNID on it. Would I be able to register it to an address in the UK and take part of this deal that way?

I really get free Pikmin 3 just for buying MK8 in NA? Wow, that is a fantastic deal. I already have it pre-ordered.

...hate me...
Aren't they only "superior" because of how shit each system is performing relative to their NoA counterparts? They need better deals than what NoA offers to entice more people.
Yeah, NoA should be careful not to entice too many people, or they won't be able to keep up with the demand.

Especially when considering it's another occurrence where NA fails to offer something on par with Europe. Maybe I'm just bitter we didn't get MK8 Collectors Edition, lol!

I have all the games in the list but I'm still glad to get an additional code. Should be able to sale it and pick up 1-2 other titles on sale.

It's quite obvious they're catering to EU more because EU is playing hard to get.

I would like to point out something that might cause serious issues again.

Last year, there was an offer in Europe such as if you downloaded Pikmin 3, you'd get 30% off The Wonderful 101 on the eShop.

Problem: some people downloaded Pikmin 3 too early and thus were deemed not eligible for the promotion.
(After a big debacle, as seen in this thread, Nintendo fixed it)

On Nintendo UK website, the Terms & Conditions of the “Mario Kart 8 Bonus Game Promotion” similarly state a starting time of May 30th 2014, 10:00 (UK time).

However, it is highly likely that Mario Kart 8 will be available on the eShop at midnight, and that people will be able to pick MK8 in stores one day or two before.

So, there is a possibility that all people who download MK8 between midnight and 10am (as, if you linked your Club Nintendo account to your NNID, games get automatically registered when you buy them on the eShop) and all people who register the MK8 PIN in their Club Nintendo account before that time CANNOT benefit from the offer.

So ehm, I need an advice here people.
The only games on that list I do not have already are the following:

Nintendo Land, Game and Wario, Mario&Sonic and Wii Party

I am not really into party games, which makes the decision even harder...
So, what would you recommend me?

A Japanese company doing something worst for japan than for the usa ?

We are in an alternate reality or something ?

Japan has been getting screwed a lot lately...maybe not a lot, but of a significant magnitude. (ie. Sony launched the PS4 threeish months later)

If anyone in Europe is planning on getting either Legend of Zelda or Pikmin 3 I can trade you my dl code for sonic lost world dl code :)

Barely any wii u owners in europe =/

My choices are Zelda and Wii Party U. Not sure which one to get yet. Might go with Zelda since I really don't have anyone to play Wii Party U with.

This should be in the game's OT ...

Game and Wario sounds the more single player focused

I think the problem with that actually turned out to be more that the promo was only supposed to be applicable to purchases directly through the eShop. Specifically, it wasn't that he activated the game early, but that he bought the digital code through GAME and not directly from Nintendo.

I'm really glad the four NA game are what they are, they could have made it four games like The Wonderful 101 that I can buy for $24 new but Pikmin 3 is still $50 new. Of course a bigger list would be great but they are giving us solid games with solid market value.

If you really want TW101 and this redemption gives you a code you should be able to sell your Pikmin 3 (or whatever) code for enough to buy a copy of one of the cheaper filler games available in Europe.

I own WW and pikmin 3 and have no real interest in wii party u so I guess I'm gonna go with NSMBU since Ive only borrowed it from the library and don't own a copy.

Neither game is gonna have a ton of longevity but I think game&wario's got more style.

This is a really nice deal. I'm either getting Pikmin 3 or NSMB since I already own Windwaker and don't care for Party U. Leaning towards NSMB because I feel I'd enjoy it more.

My choices are Wii Party U, so... I guess I'll get Wii Party U. My social circle has frequent Nintendo Land parties so I guess this will mix up the rotation.

Pikmin 3 it is.

This is a really nice promotion, by the way. I noticed you have to buy MK8 within a month of release (well, plus a day) and I'm not a 100% sure I would have. I don't day 1 everything and I may have waited for the holidays or something, but this deal makes it a no brainer. Good job selling me Nintendo.

Really great deal.

Ordered Mario Kart 8 for € 49 and will get Pikmin 3

So both Games for ~ € 25 :)

Which is expecially good if you consider that Nintendo Franchises hardly ever drop in price (Could buy Super Mario Bros U for € 40 about two months ago ...)

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
Won't work, you get the free game for registering MK8 on your Club Nintendo account. You can only register it once

Wrong. Physical and digital versions of the same game can both be registered on the same account.

The fact that no one gives a shit about Wii Party U is a clear sign that the game is underrated as all hell. But, hey, people are kind of ass-y about Nintendo Land too.

Wii Party U cannot be underrated for it is one of the worst games I have ever played - especially coming from Nintendo. It's basically a collection of horrible mini games, very few, select fine minigames and a lot of virtual dice rolling. I'd recommend a dl code for a game you already own just for convenience over taking Wii Party U. For the record: I really like Nintendo Land and if someone does not have it, I'd say go for it (of course, if siad person already owns Mario and Pikmin, or in Europe also Sonic and W101).

Nintendo Land, it's more of an arcade game collection than a party game.

Did you play Wii Party for Wii? Did you feel the same about it? I thought that was done pretty well, so I'm rather surprised about what you are saying about its successor.

I thought Wii Party was worse than the Mario Party line because it was even more dependent on luck and had worse mini games, but it wasn't as bad as Wii Party U because Wii Party U has an absurd amount of overly simplistic stinkers among its mini games. If you really liked Wii Party, you will probably still have some fun with Wii Party U though.

EDIT: I forgot to explicitly say: Yes, I did play Wii Party on Wii, too.

Also I forgot to say: What brings Wii Party U down so much also is the fact that on Wii U there are three other minigame collections: Wario, Rabbids and Nintendo Land and I think each one of those much more well-done. Rabbids Land in particular is very close in concept to Wii Party U, but has some very, very nice minigames that use the GamePad in unique ways, putting Nintendo's own efforts to shame. Wii Party U has the benefit of being playable with four players, whereas Rabbids Land can only be played by two players, Wario by one (!). So if you want your game to be playable by four players and almost completely depend on luck, Wii Party U might still be the best party game choice. In every other case, it is not.

Nah, it shouldn't be a problem because with digital purchases, you need to complete the survey before the game is completely registered, and the time you complete the survey is the only thing that matters.

But actually, looks like it's a bit special this time around :

You can find the Club Nintendo PIN code:

Inside the packaging of Mario Kart 8 software (including software which is part of the Mario Kart 8 Premium Pack – Special Edition Wii U hardware bundle);
On-screen on Wii U:
After purchasing the downloadable version of Mario Kart 8 from Nintendo eShop, or;

After the redemption of a download code for the downloadable version of Mario Kart 8.
Also in the receipt within “Menu”, then “Account Activity” in Nintendo eShop on the Wii U console, after downloading software from Nintendo eShop.

That's new, because you don't usually get any PIN Code when buying straight from the eShop.

What happens if I get Nintendo Land digital, does it use my existing save game? I'm asking because the digital version of ZombiU created a separate save file from the disc version, which meant playing the whole game again.
