Yeah, it definitely takes a bit of wind out of my hype sails knowing it's him, but it's still exciting to see how he's implemented. And even in the Palutena trailer, where you knew it was for her immediately, it still gave me chills to see the "Palutena alights!" banner appear on the screen. Even if it's already expected, it's a whole different feeling when they're completely confirmed.

I still get super hyped even knowing in advance as well. Hell, I even STILL re-watch one of my favorite reveals that I kind of knew in advance already (based on leaks).

Shulk is going to be my ultimate hyped newcomer though. Still hoping for that Ness reveal before it's too late as well.

Couldn't agree more. :)

Even if the Chorus Men are basically confirmed at this point, I know I'm still going to lose my shit when they're officially revealed and I see the trailer for the first time!

Haha, dude, I've watched that video countless times. It was a perfect example of how to tease an audience; you know it's Little Mac, but you're still on the edge of your seat, just in case. When he throws that hoodie off, it's like Sakurai giving you full permission to lose your shit.

Couldn't agree more. :)

I'm not super familiar with Rhythm Heaven, but they seem like they'll be a fun character to fight against. The more characters, the more match-ups for me to learn.

Speaking of Rhythm Heaven, which is the best one to play if I'm new to the series?

Actually any character fits the Smash. All have unique movesets to make them interesting in battle.

Though I really want it to be Riki, just because a Nopon will also be there in Xeno X, and he matches the cuteness of the other mascots
even if he's a 40-year old jobless father of 11 kids.
.

That reminds me - if X's going to get a more standard anime dub due to being released worldwide from the outset, that means we'll get Nopon with American accents. I can't imagine anything more horrible.

There really isn't enough space on the character select screen on the 3DS, unless they change it up before release.

That's completely arbitrary reasoning. Just because two screens of 24 would fit doesn't mean that's what we're getting. It also obviously leaves no room for DLC characters and assumes Mii Fighters share a single selection tile, which we also don't know that they do.

I don't want to say "expect more characters!" because I don't know any more than you do. But basing things on the 3DS selection screen feels really wrong to me.

Of the remaining three newcomers, Shulk is the character I'm least interested in by far - it's a combination of "series I've never played and am not interested in" and "normal looking human" that really leaves me lukewarm. Still looking forward to it, though; I'll be waiting with baited breath regardless.

As I think of it, Xenoblade and Rhythm Heaven are the only series in Smash that I have absolutely no experience with... and Gyromite, I guess. I did play Mario Kart DS though!

Has anything been confirmed on that front? I kinda wish we'd just get the English European voices now. It'd be cheaper for Nintendo too.

This is just a british-y series in my head now.

Same here. I'd say aside from Shulk being playable my most wanted Xenoblade material in order of most desired would be Stage > Riki AT > Chain Attack with other characters > Anyone else as an AT.

Although I'm really hoping off for a Xenoblade stage, I hope in addition to getting a good dose of Xenoblade music, they can throw in a few obscure tracks from The Last Story. I mean, hey if Brawl stages could have random tracks, a Xenoblade stage can too.

I'd love it if they kept the British VA, but I don't think they'd ever choose to not use Americans for something that will release in the US. Xenoblade releasing as it did was a lucky coincidence; if it was planned for a global release from the outset, I doubt using a non-American cast would have even been considered.

And maybe having Americans from Neo Los Angeles speaking in British accents would be kind of odd.

Rhythm Heaven Fever. It's cheap, easy to play since it's a Wii game, and is definitely the best in the series. It even does a good job of pushing you into the idea of rhythm games with its interesting beginning.

Although you can't really go wrong with any of them and there are only three. And only two have come out of Japan. So...

What kind of peasant do you think I am?

Dropping her name insinuates that she is back by the end because there would be no way in Hell that her character would be developed enough to warrant a spot in Smash before her death.

Xenoblade spoilers
Fiora comes back about half way through the game as the final party member as a cyborg.

Haha, well, that settles that. Thanks!

So, anyone who's watching can correct me if I'm wrong, but now that we're in GF for Ultra...didn't Smash have the highest view count at Evo this year? It about tied last year, but Marvel and SF both dropped it seems. That's a little crazy.

Melee ended with 137k or 138k and Marvel ended with like 147k-149k. Melee second most viewed game this year.

So, this is a totally premature conversation, but...whatever! I need to kill time until the reveal trailer. Assuming that the leak pans out, which of the Smash sequels has had the best collection of newcomers? By best, I just mean has you the most hyped pre-release to try everyone out. A reminder list:
-
Melee
Bowser / Dr. Mario / Falco / Ganondorf / Ice Climbers / Marth / Mewtwo / Mr. Game & Watch / Peach / Pichu / Roy / Zelda (Sheik) / Young Link

Brawl
Diddy Kong / Ike / King Dedede / Lucario / Lucas / Meta Knight / Pikmin & Olimar / Pit / Pokemon Trainer / R.O.B. / Solid Snake / Sonic / Toon Link / Wario / Wolf / Zero Suit Samus

Smash 4
Chorus Kids / Chrom / Greninja / Little Mac / Mega Man / Mii Fighter / Pac-Man / Palutena / Rosalina & Luma / Shulk / Villager / Wii Fit Trainer
-
It's a really hard call for me. In the end, I think I have to go with Smash 4 because, while every game has had characters I was excited for, Smash 4 has the most that I can see myself maining (in this case, Greninja, Little Mac, and Mega Man).
Going to say Brawl. Smash 4 comes in a close second but I'm too much of a Pikmin fan and all the characters I tend to play as in Brawl and its mods come from Brawl.

Guys, guys! I just had a vision of who the next Smash character was! Maybe some call it byproducts of my latent insomnia or my lack of medications due to running out over the weekend, but I say it's a vision!

Its in pieces though, but one thing I remember reading loud as a bell was...

Fruit.

If we find something

-related to Smash Bros, we'll know for sure who the new character is. Who needs a prediction based on a so-far accurate leak? We now have Clairvoyance with us!

The Chorus Kids trailer is the one I'm the most eager to see. Just to see how outrageous it is and also so we can start the "You're a fucking choir boy compared to me! A choir boy!" insults.

It's not about relevancy. If we look at every Smash roster, there are characters that were basically unknown to most when first seen (FE characters), lost relevancy due to lack of games (Megaman), or not that popular anymore, at least to new audiences(Pac-man). As long as Sakurai is directing Smash, characters will never be too irrelevant to enter his roster.

If Sakurai wants it, he will just bring those mentioned characters on the first go. No need for DLC. Just have this huge roster from the start and all is set. I bet Sakurai does not want to be stuck managing DLC character development after Smash is out in the market.

For DLC, it really does not mean everything will be paid. For DLC trophies, they can just have them free, or have them accessible from Amiibo of other games. For paid DLC, stages and/or music will be fine for me.

The problem of course with your argument is time constraints. Sakurai wants a huge roster of every single character from all of Smash, plus all these other characters he has great ideas for. And then he wants to add all these other things in like custom movesets. Then Nintendo comes in and says "Hey- add something to use NFC statues with!"

And suddenly your huge roster doesn't happen. I'm not a big fan of this "If Sakurai wants it, it'll happen!" because I have a feeling he doesn't have 100% say and he's being pushed pretty hard right now to get the game done when it needs to be without delaying it. If he wants those characters in but runs out of time, why not DLC?

It gets the game out that Nintendo needs for the holidays and keeps it relevant for a lot longer than it would have been relevant. It also allows them to put in characters that are relevant now instead of waiting years and never using the idea. Plusle and Minun are never going to be in Smash now. Mewtwo hasn't really been seen as an antagonist in Pokemon for years. Roy's relevancy to FE is negligent. And Toon Zelda/Sheik would have been an interesting character to see happen. But while we may see some of these, if they don't have time to put them in...why not DLC?

Smash 4 for Shulk alone. Greninja, Chrom, Little Mac and Mega Man are nice bonuses though.

I sincerely hope it takes the form of a Rhythm Heaven-style remix video, complete with Smash Bros. characters taking the place of the usual Rhythm Heaven characters. It would be amazingly cool.

Bonus points if the background music is music from the other Smash reps remixed together.

I would be disappointed in sakurai if he dosent do that.

Nice to see others be excited for Chrom! I get the hate, but Awakening is my only Fire Emblem game I've beat, so Chrom has a special place in my heart.

Awakening's one of my favorite Fire Emblem games (I've played all the ones released here) and Chrom was my bro the entire time throughout the game, so I'm happy he's in. Plus he has a sword, so I'll probably be using him a lot. =P

We don't know how much characters are already in the works right now. For all we know, the roster is set way before the Smash 4 reveal. The only things they are working on right now are most likely debugging and adjusting game mechanics since there are things like items, game modes, stages and hazards, and all sorts of things aside from characters. We already have 30 characters, plus some more expected to come later or be revealed on the actual game, so this will possibly be the biggest roster of Smash yet.

Plus, like I said earlier would Sakurai stay on board for directing and supervising playable character DLC months or years after Smash 4 is released?

Take note also that 3DS and Wii U versions use the same roster so that's basically working on 2 roster updates that will undergo screening, programming and debugging process. In stages, music and trophies, it's not a problem because not all contents are shared commonly by 2 versions.

honestly even after playing the other fire emblems i also look forward to chrom (but anyone from awakening would have been super hype)

Yeah, anyone from Awakening would have been great. I just am finally happy to have a Fire Emblem character with some kind of personal attachment for me.

Pic of the day. In order to make Rayman's trophy, we asked Ubisoft to share their references. We were expecting to receive 2D drawing references for Rayman, but to our surprise, they sent us data of a brand new 3D model that they rendered for this game!! And that was how this trophy was created. It takes a lot of work creating each model, so it's wonderful that the creators contributed their own efforts!!
