Man if all this whining about Xbone 720p is forcing developers to abandon deferred rendering engines in favor of old ass shit I'm going to be so mad.

of course ps3 and xbone version are different even if they've the same resolution/frame rate.

animations, effects, physics, ai, aa, sound, etc.? come on, peeps.

xbone is probably (i say definitely) scaled to next gen version of engine but they chose to sacrifice resolution to be able to get there.

You know they work 2+ years on these games if they wouldnt be trying you wouldnt be able to play it.
If it doesnt run well on one console while it works on another i dont think the devs are at fault.

I think if I had to make a guess that they went with what they were comfortable, they probably got it stable and left it at that...

Look, we all know if this was 900P on PS4 the opinion in this thread would be very different

I get it anything anti MS is generally loved on here, reading that stupid thread about the guy who went round shops in china mocking there not being any queues for the X1 tell us a lot...

It may be a engine issue with the X1, but as I said it smacks of not trying IMO

There's not a lot going on in P.T.

TPP, yeah that looks good by any standard... but Microsoft won't let that game out the door at 720p.

I will be highly surprised if Phantom Pain is higher than 720p on XB1 and I mean like genuinely shocked. Open world,60fps, no baked lighting and lot of other stuff going on in this game.

That's the difference I remember. I was confused at all the FIFA > PES posts in the thread.

Getting full realtime lighting from the Bone at 60FPS is always going to be a tall order I think, because of the large framebuffer that's required.

From a deferred renderer, probably. Something like forward+ wont have issues. Such as FH2, although that isn't 60. I'm sure Forza 6 will use it at 60.

I think Konami is to blame here if it really is an engine problem. If they developed that engine knowing about next gen console's specs then there's only them to blame. I'd understand it if Konami wasn't informed about XB1's specs otherwise their games will be a hard sell to XB1 owners.

This is the thing a lot of people don't seem to understand. Global illumination solutions, temporal aliasing solutions, and other effects that are reliant on the newer hardware's rendering abilities (more advanced shaders and material simulation, basically) are all expensive to utilize, and require larger frame-buffer and general horsepower to render.

The Tomorrow Children, for example, is using a very advanced lighting system that even PS4 can only do so much with (which is why the solutions they used for their voxel light path system is a wonderful thing to look into). If we stick to the more static, PS360 age rendering solutions then it'll be easier for both systems to run at 1080p60 but this is not what most developers want to stick to after being given the option of more advanced image.

It's clear that the nature of the Fox Engine is at play here

IIRC it uses defered rendering and this technique is problematic on XB1 when trying the 1080P 60FPS Combo

They'll probably see it's mostly stamping of feet because the numbers don't match without taking any other factors into account and brush it aside.

Let's see, there were many good 720p gifs from the nextgen launch time period:

I kind of impressed Konami post these specs on their website.

Kojima did the same for Ground Zeroes, even posted HQ video about differneces for all platorms. He gave no fuck. :D

It rarely gets mentioned (and sometimes, I even see the opposite said) but, the CPU in PS4 is actually more powerful than XBO's.

It's not actually more powerful - it's the very same CPU but 100MHz higher on XB1.

Thing is, XB1 actually runs multiple OSs at the same time with a hypervisor - and uses DirectX 11 which hogs CPU a lot when making draw calls. Diminishing the horrible impact of DX11 on CPU perf is the "secret sauce" DirectX 12 is supposed to bring.

Who sits around and creates propaganda like this?

Bit touchy, are we?

Blamed for not dumbing down their engine to lowest common denominator?

Is it safe to say that the only games that have more than 720p resolution on Xbox One are ones that utilize forward rendering? It seems to me that deferred is a bane to XB1.

Well yes if they're thinking about sales. If they want to use this engine on multiplats then they should have thought of ways in order to bypass engine problems on deferred rendering. Possibly supporting forward instead. I don't know much about technical stuff but if they're not using this engine exclusively for Sony then they should have done more.

I'm not saying Fox Engine is bad but just that there are issues such as these that gives it a bad name.

How do you know that they didnt try to run it at 900/1080p + 60fps but it didnt work?

If the game would have been 1080p/30fps we would have had the same "lazy dev" discussion which is just a joke because they worked multiple years on the game.

Sony never officially revealed how fast the PS4 CPU is, so honestly comparing the stock clock speed of the CPU with Xbone CPU clock speed makes little sense.

I read on some other forums the typical

It's just lazy and untalented devs that can't do 1080P 60FPS for PES15 etc.

They probably didn't care because come on, it is a soccer game with a green field and a handful of players.
The resources to make it 1080 probably outweigh the sales gain on the X1 userbase.

Edit: Okay...Fuck me. I just saw some of the PES screenshots. PES>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>FIFA.

TW3 is Forward+

On second thought this whining can continue if it forces developers to skip deferred and go with Forward+.
It's less memory demanding, but a little harder on the GPU, I don't know that it would lessen the gap or not, but yeah, I guess more of a flexible solution.

Yeah, the Fox Engine even separates diffuse and specular lighting information, so the g-buffer is probably pretty fat. The XB1 is just not well designed for that type of rendering.

We already have. But when we see games like destiny and Diablo doing 1080 both of which look far more impressive what should we think? Is say Konami is more at fault here.

I wouldn't call Destiny impressive; that IQ at 30fps is less than stellar... It actually doesn't look any better than whatever cross-gen/remasters there is out there.

And well, talking about HD remasters, Diablo...

Even 900p would have shown at least a standard level of effort.

720p feels like they did a quick port of the PS4 version version and said fuck it... good enough. They were probably right to not optimize the game. It won't sell on xbox.

You should probably get a job at GameStop to make sure people know what's up. "Sir, do you realize the PS4 is more powerful? Sir!"

What? you can buy an Xbox one for multiple reasons, friends, exclusives, ecosystem, OS and features, but expecting multiplatform parity all the time knowing it's hardware specs is unreasonable. Nice straw man argument.

Or we could stop trying to find excuses for the developer and their engine, It would make sense to excuse the developer/engine if lots of games were having this problem.

Fox Engine is relatively new, optimizing a game and learning to program for a new console takes resources, they're not the only developers with problems, Destiny got a resolution bump becaue Microsoft sent engineers to help coding, calling them lazy seems like a bold statement.

And no, I'm not justifying Konami, I've said in previous posts that both parties are to blame, MS for the hardware and Konami for making the gap bigger than it should be.

Software house makes an engine that require a certain part of the hardware to have high performance -> One of the consoles lacks that type of performance -> Game developed for that console looks worse -> "Stupid lazy developer you don't want to use the 'console-with-no-high-performance' on purpose, shame on you!"

Software house makes a game that isn't stunning on any console -> One console is particularly more powerful than another one -> Said software house doesn't use the basically free power the superior console has -> Games looks identical despite one console being more powerful than the other -> "Lord praise the developers! They are da bessssst!!1!!1ONE1!ELEVEN"

Destiny is a 3D world with lots of crap going on, this is a soccer game, few players running around a field from birds eye view. I just can't fathom how it can be so taxing. When I play Destiny or even Diablo I stop to admire some of the scenes and graphics or whatever as they seem really impressive to me. Maybe its just art? I dunno,

Im downloading the demo to see what it looks like.

Uh no, Xbox one is just a weaker console. I know people don't like to hear that, but it isn't going to change.

People keep saying this like its not known. Come on.

I don't know how people can convince themselves that games should run the same on consoles with different power and then blame the developers when they can't.
