I'm voting with my wallet on this one.

I refuse to buy another glitchy, rushed out the door unfinished mess.

And, after what I played at PAX AUS, Farcry 4 is next on my shit list.

What exactly? The mission? So I just gotta do other stuff and wait till it pops up?

Or do you mean the game, because I have a retail copy lol

It was just weird, "if you want you can try it out right now" well - no. Because the mission is nowhere to be seen lol

When you start the game, it installs a small section then while you play it installs the rest. I'm pretty sure it would have finished installing by the time you are in Paris. Took me 10-15 mins I think.

Oh I read on Reddit that digital versions had to completely finish downloading before starting the third sequence.

This parity debate is ridiculous. If ubisoft says both are the same on both consoles, why would they lie? Ps4 / X bone basically the same.the whole 60 Fps Is moot, these consoles can barely handle it.

Play the games/controller you like. Nobody cares what system you think is better. Fact is xb1 is much better, just calm down on the vitriol ps4 trolls. Take a breath, play sso and stop being such complainers. 99.9% of the gaming community doesn't see the hate and vitriol from the vocal 1% of the gaming community [you're bad we know]

If you want to be superior buy a 5k pc. If you want to play with friends go xb1, if you want to be an angry hermit go ps4 ... Most of us 99.9% could care less.

It's pretty sad that the vocal (whiny complainers) minority gets most of the press. Devs need to grow a pair and tell the trolls to eat dick.
My 2 cents

My Irony detector is going off the charts!!

On Topic. This is actually the first time I'm holding off on an AC game, had every other one at launch but I've never seen so many people complaining about performance this much at launch either. I was kind of relying on this game to be good too since there isn't much else that interests me coming out this year.

It's a PC Retail copy, so its all installed already.
The game works fine, I'm in Sequence 4 now but this mission just wont pop up on the minimap.
Maybe its a bug.

Did someone else get that
Rift
mission after
the Belle Epoque section
in Sequence 3 and managed to actually play it? Maybe I just misunderstood it, but I swear the game told me the first one is available.

You realize you will see every game in 1080p as your output right?

I was more curious if the back of the box listing was always output or native. Now I know. Thanks all for answering my question.

What's the point in having that on the back of the box when everything will output to 1080p?! Just seems silly to me.

My thoughts exactly. Which is why I was wondering if it was Native or Output.

You know what's even worse than the pop-in?

That Ubisoft looked at the way the NPCs move out of Arno's way in close-quarters and decided, "yep, that looks good; not offensively gamey or stupid looking whatsoever".

In a game with largely great animation, it has the subtlety of a thousand bowling balls careening through a warehouse of neon coloured pins.

That's just what I was thinking. Where's the ability to move through crowds we had in previous games? They actually make huge crowds now and you just magically push them aside with a forcefield, it's ridiculous.

What? Damn this game sounds like a complete mess. Damn you Origin, unlock, so I can laugh at it myself.

Lot of open world jank going on, but I'm really enjoying the game so far. I kind of go against the grain on AC as AC 3 was by far my favorite of the series. Not liking the cover system too much though. I wish they had just straight added the Splinter Cell system as opposed to a halfassed one. Can we not switch corners of an object?

The huge crowds are amazing.
The glitches (passed a floating man not 30 min into the game) are ridiculous.
The city detail is magnificent.
The loading times suck arse.
The character models are beautiful.
The clipping and disappearing/reappearing people are horrendous.
The refined control is a breath of fresh air.
I'm still running from one view point to the next while hunting treasure chests (zzz).

Such a gorgeous, yet ugly game.
I'll still play it until the wheels fall off because hey, nothing can be as bad as AC3, and I may as well since they have my money :)

Besides, I'm of the few who actually gives a toss about the story.

This is the engine they started using since AC3, the Anvil engine.

The game's director said on Major Nelson's podcast last week that this is the first AC game on their new engine. I'm not sure how much is buzz-speak but I thought that AC3, AC4, and AC Rogue were on Anvil Next and that this is a new one.

I popped it down to 720p and get 60fps. This game is seriously fun. The animations and missions are fantastic. The changing missions are very very fun. This is seriously the most fun AssCreed I've played yet. It really reminds me of what I was hoping the original AssCreed was gonna be when I first saw it previewed.

I left all settings maxed except shadows and TXAA and lowered the resolution to 720p and it's pretty much 60fps 98% of the time. Lowering the res might seem like blasphemy to some, but it is the right move for this game at least in its current state. i74770k@3.8Ghz/GTX 780/8gb/Win7. Seriously super fun. Going back in. Waiting for Mickeyknox to get it going to play the coop.

Goddamn, in one of the first missions you're infiltrating a party with hundreds of people, dressed in nice robes. Yet from the moment you step in a guard's line of sight, he just knows you're not supposed to be there. Are these guys telepathic?

I'm already starting to regret spending even €30 on this rubbish.

I think this is AnvilNext, a different branch than the AC3's.

Yeah, 720p on a monitor is an absolutely no-go. The fact that you are playing on a 780 makes it even more ridiculous. But to each his own, if you are cool with the blur, more power to you.

I'm probably way behind the times moaning about this, but does it show your username with the health bar the whole time? Even when playing in single player? What the hell.

Really worries me about how they expect me to play this with other people (here is a hint: I won't)

It shows your username, because "you" are connected to Helix/Animus/Abstergo.

No need to worry, unless you're one of the many that want to change your PSN name because you thought xxXxN0OBK1LL3R4EV3RxXxx was awesome. :p

Nah not me, xxXxN0OBK1LL3R4EV3RxXxx still is awesome :p

I was more worried about what it might imply for the focus of the gameplay. Assassins Creed has always been fun to me because I've been able to play it alone, a heavy focus on making everything Co-Op friendly sounds like something I wouldn't enjoy.

Evolved1

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
So, none of this online stuff is working atm, right?

Or is this another glitch like the friends list thing in Black Flag?

Yeah, it would be wonderful if Sony could jump on that. I hate my psn name so much.

I'm not sure I have seen people playing the game online but me and 4 other friends couldn't connect to the servers for the last 3 days.

Honestly I'm getting tired of half functioning products lately. I know it's only been a few hours since the official release but games like this and Driveclub have no excuse for their online portions not running properly or not running at all.

This city looks ugly at night. I hate it.

I like the game at morning with rain. It doesn't look spectacular, but everything is nice and clear.

How is it? I honestly got intrigued by the setting and charaters and their possible interactions.

I'm still undecided as to whether I should get this on PC or PS4. Obviously I want the better performance from the PC version but Uplay really annoys me and most of my friends are getting it for PS4 so I'll have to get it there to play with them. And remote play sounds enticing.

Does anyone have remote play impressions? Ubi games usually have the best remote play.

I'm sure you'll enjoy your tenure here on gaf.

Also I know literally one guy who has a xb1, all my friends have PS4s. Maybe he fact that the ps4 sold twice as much should clue you in on the fact that people are more likely to have friends on ps4.

It's so obvious they want to turn this series into episodic content where they can sell you little slices of history the same way they show Abstergo doing. The "rate this mission" stuff is still really grating to me

Dead

well not really...yet
I got to the start of sequence 3 last night.

Paris is gorgeously realized, amazingly detailed and the lighting is sublime

In the first 30 minutes I saw some NPCs appear from from the sky

The story, setup and character so far are the best since 2

The game has the feel of 2/B

Modern day segments will make a lot of people happy

The game is on track to be the best AC yet, but Ubi have got to fucking improve performance and fast.

Man, I totally want to play with you guys as well. I just don't know when I'll get the time to really dive in until the weekend, and I'll probably be going through the story mode first.

Speaking of weather, AC4 had amazing rain effects in the next gen port, how does Unity's rain compare?

Worse IMO, but a lot of it is to do with how it reacts to the environment. AC4 had trees blowing, ocean waves crashing and lots of elements that very noticeably changed with the weather. Unity not so much, the ground gets muddy - and stays muddy even after the rain clears up, your boots kick dirt up - you leave footprints, but it isn't really stuff you would see unless specifically looking for it. Also wood and cloth surfaces and the like that you run on don't seem to change which is odd as rain should affect them. So ACIV wins, but mostly because it's in a position to make more out of weather.

If this is even close to that I'll be happy.
