Assassin’s Creed: Unity Framerate Is “Atrocious”

On the topic of framerate, it looks like taking your console offline fixes the issues with the framerate, or at least improves then. Seems like all of the online features (if you want to call chests being locked if you're not online or connected to the app features) are causing the game to jitter and stutter. Worth a shot to try it out if anyone wants a possible fix.

Hmmm. Where are you getting this info from? Links please :)

Ubisoft step up your game! Fix the frame rate. We would have taken sub 900p for a more stable framerate.

The thing is I have yet to see a real gameplay reason for crowds to be that large. They don't do anything meaningful or worth watching, they are not meaningful targets for you, so why have them other than as a tickbox? I don't mean get rid of all of them, but surely they have a crowd density "slider" they could adjust during development to get performance acceptable.
They totally change the dynamic of sprinting around in crowds and weaving between people. Gameplay in AssUnit is way better than any previous AC game, and while the console version doesnt match the extreme bullshot pc videos Ubi showed off, the game is definitely one of my favorites of the year. They should have been more open in showing the game off because the backlash from their shady tactics is hurting more than they're helping.

At the start of the game,
there is a menu that teases other adventures in the animus
and I'll be damned but I would probably pay to experience each of those settings in this engine.

Reading a bit on reddit, about putting console in offline mode fixed stuttering/framerate issue. Anyone here tested that and can confirm?

I have a lenovo laptop ideapad y580 with core i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.30 GHZ with 8GB DDR3 and a GTX660M . My native maximum res is 1366x768. My laptop struggles to run last-gen games correctly There are some versions in the same series Y580 having the exact same specs but with a FULL HD screen so the native res is 1080p. My friend has the exact same pc as me but the FULL HD screen. He claims he could run the game at 1080p with minimum settings. I dont know about our GTX660M is it with league GTX460 desktop or sth? I don't have the game for now to test it even with my native res aka 1366x768 and I doubt it will even work even at that res even with minimum settings. I read that people even with GTX 980 get some troubles to run it and those with GTX 680 (the minimul card to run it at low) have some issues to run it at 1600x 1050 res. I want to know if he is trolling or not and I want him busted because I doubt he could even run the menu of this game in minimum at my native res 1366x768 let alone his native res aka 1080p since we have exactly same PC but with different screens.

I got a i5 on 3,6 and a 660TI. I'm running the game on low and 1080P. I get more or less about 40 fps, with hiccups at random. There is no way your friend is playing the game on his laptop better than on my PC xD

I wonder what next years big broken game will be. Seems like having that one big busted game every holiday is a repeating trend.

Assuming Fallout 4 doesn't get announced at some event next month obviously because that will take the busted cake whenever it launches.

Should I regret that I pre-ordered and pre-payed this game? :(

It will get fixed I'm sure. I wouldn't play through it until it's clear that they've patched out all the major bugs. Why taint your first and possibly only playthrough?

Either that or try to get money back.

Yeah, guess I'll put this in the "to be played"-pile. What a shame.

Oh my god. This game and Sonic Boom in the same week. This stuff is hilarious, comedy goldmines.

But man, this is no state in which you should release a game.

Framerate aside, how anyone can still be interested in this franchise is beyond me. I've only played the first game on PS3 and it was meh...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is releasing a new game every year not a good hint that no love and soul is put into it? This is why I have very little to no interest in anything coming from Ubisoft, EA and Activision, but that's me.

Hahaha, this gives me the Rome:Total War 2 vibes, when you could zoom in on far-away soldiers.

Seriously, though, this is clearly a LOD texturing issue, which is probably the same that causes pop-in. In order to generate 10000 NPCs at the time, AC:U uses a very aggressive texture downscaling for models just 10 meters away. If I were to make an educated guess, I'd say that the game uses a Line-of-Sight calculation, number of characters on screen and distance all mixed together and then applies appropriate textures. I don't know if they can even "fix" it without affecting performance.

I bought this crap, i felt really sad but this thread makes me feel better.

And the textures/model pop in is pretty much a feature. They need to divide npc count by two if they were to ever fix it...

I have AC1, 2, 3 and Brotherhood. I actually had to check my shelf last night if it was Revelations of Brotherhood as they are all so forgettable I couldn't remember at all. I really wanted to like AC and bought four of the games but it is so, so stale I cannot believe that people look forward to these anymore. Unity looks like more of the bloody same.
