Yeah, I can't speak to what shady pr firms do, whether that's for ms or other firms. It's something I know nothing about. I was just responding to the "ms employee?" post.

Tbh in this day & age/climate I'd be amazed if any gaming company was stupid enough to allow a pr firm to astroturf. Stakes are too high if caught. Especially on gaf where you have to register with your work email address so it's kind of obvious.

So, the claim is that MS isn't astroturfing, but firms they've hired can do so. That's a nice spin as well.

Didn't we all know this sales update was aimed towards November and not october. October was pre price drop, before master chief collection and Sunset Overdrive had only been out 4 days or so.
Guess noone preordered then. I mean, its not like these games are extremely frontloaded or anything.

Where are you from? I'm pretty sure we'll see some BF deals on amazon sites at least

i have no idea on why would Amazon have PS4 out of stock now...

I should have bought PS4 long time ago, I have been waiting for some discount for a while now but in reality, doesnt seem like it is coming (we dont have BF deals here in EU).

Not completely wrong, just that XBox 360 sold fine in Europe

Microsofts standing in Europe wasn't exactly helped by Snowden revealing that MS were super co-operative with the NSA and that European leaders of nation states were routinely bugged.

I mean, yeah, Americans might get pissed off at the concept that their own government is spying on them, but that's a tiny speck compared to how someone in a completely unrelated country feels about US intelligence spying on them.

The major issue with Xbones popularity in Europe is of course that 95% + of its advertised features are unavailable.

I honestly think that Microsoft is losing a bunch of sales by not including physical games with their bundles. Little Timmy doesn't want to go home and download 20-50 GB of data. He wants to play right from the box. A physical game is also much higher value for the casual gamer.

I don't think the general populous even knows about how big these games can get until they start downloading and see how long it takes or when they run out of hard drive space

Such as? I'm in Europe and don't feel as if I'm missing out on things.

I hated getting the white xbox one and not being able to play sunset overdrive for like 4 hours! I downloaded some smaller demos to keep me busy at least.

Basically until games with gold it was essentially just a pay-wall to play on-line and download some very few apps. Most other services (first and third-party) available on the system in NA simply are not available (or don't have an equivalent) in most European markets. With PlayStation is not unusual even for smaller markets to have at least one music and/or video service available.

So the CoD bundle is about to be sold out on Amazon. (2 left)

There is also a new bundle. AC Bundle with 12 Month Live Card for $390

That has nothing to do with Microsoft. If the services are not available in Europe that is down to the service provider i.e Hulu and other media services. Microsoft merely provides access to those services on their box.

Yes the US gets a lot of awesome stuff, but thats because they are the US.

You haven't said anything specific. Xbox Music/Video was available at launch for me in my local store, any American apps I wanted and could use, I could download by switching my region, a very easy and quick process.

I don't think the point is whether or not it's MS's "fault," just that the value proposition for the console is different if many of its unique features are unavailable to you.

Well, I'm one of those people who jumped on the bandwagon with the price cut, but my experience so far hasn't exactly been pleasurable. Installs take forever, the UI is unwieldy shit without Kinect, my 14 day live gold code doesn't work , and the MCC has been a mess since release. The single silver lining so far has been Sunset Overdrive, which is amazing and the reason I bought the console in the first place, but outside of that it's been a vastly inferior experience compared to the PS4.

I am really curious to see what the ultimate ramifications of this kind of aggressive price-cutting turn out to be.

There's already a vocal minority that want MS to spin off the Xbox division due to revenue being eaten up by costs, and I can't imagine this will help. Maybe they figure a successful division they are bullied into spinning off is better than one they can keep but limps behind the pack.

I just hope nothing drastic is done that ultimately sinks the Xbox brand. Competition drives this industry forward.

Hmm, even with the kinect I do much of my dashboard navigation with a controller, what is giving you trouble?

Quick tips, press the start button and scroll down for setting, and to manually close games and apps.

Pin games and commonly used apps so they are available to the left of the home screen. This also works for websites.

to use snap or record game clips, double tap the xbox button in a game or app and select what you are trying to do.

I hadn't clicked on this thread before and wow, this is one hell of a PR spin.

It's funny how they drop at the end of the note that Xbox One will soon have shipped over 10 million units to retailers to make numbers look better. And specially so that the media report that Xbox One has sold near 10 million units while the reality is far from that.

Sony will win November, BlackFriday!!!!

honestly, Black Friday is the ONLY place November NPD will be decided, plain and simple.

Even based on MS' own press release they may not be outselling PS4 as it is.. So "if" (and I do mean if) PS4 outsells XBONE on Black Friday, XBONE will likely lose the month.

or vice versa.

honestly I'm still expecting Sony to win November.. but at the same time probably closer than any other month since launch.

He said:

Which is BS. Regional apps (which really MS has been doing pretty well with recently) are not the console's most advertised features. Things like OneGuide (with support for a digital tuner, unlike the US), Kinect, Snap, Skype, Suspend & Resume etc do work for pretty much every major European market. If someone's going to claim that 95% of the features are inapplicable, than they should have a pretty long list of features to back this up.

I'm doubting he does.

I'm doubting he does.

As soon as you gatekeep every function and service from a third party as an "app", and then tout every app as a console feature - as Microsoft does - then it can't be unexpected for users in territotries where those apps might as well not exist see less of a value proposition.

I mean you can't have it both ways - you can't claim that Hulu Plus or whatever is a console feature when it benefits you in one territory, but that it doesn't matter because that service is unavailable in another.

The fact that I even get promotional emails from MS describing features with a *US only disclaimer is ridiculous.

I feel like Sony really dropped the ball this year especially this holiday season (compare where PS1-3 were at this point in time and its easy to see why so many are disappointed) so I really hope Xbox comes in #1 this month. Sony needs a thrashing.

What are you even talking about? Dropped the ball how? In their marketing? In the types of games they released? In maintaining the price of their hardware? Not to say there isn't room for criticism but what has Sony done that has irked you to the point that you hope they take a "thrashing"?

So basically, no, you don't have a long list of features. Didn't think so.

I don't know what email ad you have from them, but none of the advertisements I've seen for the Xbox tout Hulu Plus or whatever as console features. The closest I can think of to that was the NFL ad they ran near launch... in the US. Pretty much all the early Xbox One ads focus on "Xbox, go to X", "Xbox snap Skype", "Xbox Watch TV", "Xbox record that" and so on, with a side of someone motioning their arm to select a movie or something. Recent ads (now that the Kinect isn't standard) typically focus on "the best exclusives", or whatever other gaming focused angle their working with. Hulu Plus is merely an app available on their console. If that was enough to make it US oriented due to it's unavailability in other regions, then both the PS4 and Wii U would be the same. They've also not been reliant on a Live Gold subscription for a while now... which seems to be what you're really referring to.

Wat

Are you actually trying to argue that major features of the Xbox One for people outside of the Us aren't an afterthought?
Europe didn't even get TV services until a month ago.

You said 95% of features. OneGuide is a valid example yes (although that's also there now). Hulu Plus is not.

HDMI IN is heavily advertised. It's there for Europe.
Skype video calling is heavily advertised. It's there for Europe.
Snapping stuff to multitask is heavily advertised. It's there for Europe.
OneGuide is heavily advertised. It wasn't there for Europe (but is now).

Your statement of 95% of advertised features not being applicable is nonsense, and I'm surprised you're still actually trying to argue it (whilst pulling out like one feature that was missing).

Snapping stuff to multitask is heavily advertised. It's there for Europe.

TV snapping not only doesn't work properly in Euope it will never work properly in Europe because it was designed around a TV standard that Europe doesn't use.

But yeah, I'm wrong and Ms totally take Europe seriously.

does it honestly really matter?
i'm just shocked and gladdened that ms has pulled themselves out of the shitpit they dug themselves and that my SunsetBox will actually have games for a few years.

i didn't honestly think this would be the case when the Sunset trailer dropped. I thought this would come out and XBO would have like no spot in the market, no games, afterthought ports, etc.

thank god right
thank god

You may want to revise that statement

http://support.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-one/live-tv/set-up-live-tv

Note Channel information in the OneGuide is currently only available to Xbox One customers in the United States. If you live outside the United States, you can still use HDMI pass-through to view TV content through Xbox One, but the OneGuide will not show your TV listings.

Seriously enough that in a matter of a few months they released a patch allowing the user to select what refresh rate the source connected to the HDMI In (and now the USB digital tuner) run at, in order to better handle the processing. What would you expect in this case? That they force us all to play our games in 50hz so it plays nice with our broadcast standards if we decide to snap?

As of right now the Xbox affords me more options for watching my TV content than I would have if I were in the US thanks to the digital tuner removing the requirement for a separate device between the console and the TV.

And yes you are wrong. Not necessarily about MS taking Europe seriously (don't pretend that's what you initially stated).. but definitely about "95% + of its advertised features are unavailable" in Europe. Horribly, horribly wrong.

I would like to decline that offer, thanks.

lol wtf, what a huge oversight. Why would I want a huge part of the screen taken up only for audio?

It seems like such a small and simple change, that I'm not sure why it hasn't been sorted yet. Skype already does background audio, so it doesn't seem to be an actual OS limitation.

For those of us who can actually remember where PS3 was at this point in it's life, your post seems kind of laughable to be honest.

PS3 year one was garbage, shitty exclusives, worthless multiplats and online... it was the shitshow to end all shitshows those first couple of years.

PS4 year one will most likely be remembered as merely 'unremarkable' at worst when all is said and done.

That seems like quite a step up to me.

Damn, I didn't know Skype could do that. Now they seriously have no excuse, as the OS not being capable of doing it was the only reason I could think of as to why it hasn't happened yet.

What Is this? What even is this?!

This isn't even the first time I've seen this and that's not just on GAF. I'm absolutely curious as to why this level of thkning has been spreading so often lately. What would this accomplish or what would be the reason?

This coming from someone who truly..truly has no idea what this is supposed to be for.
