Here's our first three Amiiboz:

Samus looks nice as expected. In person the paint on Fox is really pretty good for the complexity of his costume.

The solid matte color cartoon characters like Yoshi seem to come out best, nearly flawless.

I was looking at them at BBY when I was there earlier getting the Link figure and I really, really like the Samus one. I really should have just bought it, but I'm going to wait till I get MK8 when it goes on sale with the Black Friday deals. Actually, and I'm aware they get a lot of criticism, I liked most of them and thought they were decent figures for the price. I really like Fox, Zelda, Samus and even Link, although Link's pose has me scratching my head. The only other ones out of the first wave that I'll probably get are Mario and Samus, though I may get Yoshi as well since I do plan on getting Wooly World whenever that's released.

I bought Link, Kirby and Yoshi from Best Buy when I picked up my Smash Bundle on my lunch break. I wanted Villager and Wii Fit Trainer, but there were none on the shelves. I checked online and Frys had them in stock so I stopped by there after work. They had one Marth left and I was almost tempted to buy it, but I'm sticking to a rule of only buying Amiibos for characters I care about and in all honesty I have no idea who Marth is. I just know people seem to love him on gaf and that his Amiibo seems to be in demand.

Has anyone figured out how to enable Amiibo in SSB 3DS? With the N3DS..

Have they even updated Smash 3DS to be compatible with amiibo yet? They probably want the amiibo to be a Wii U exclusive thing for the holidays to help push Wii U consoles. Then when the New 3DS releases worldwide, update Smash 3DS to support amiibo I would think.

Gamestop near me was sold out of everyone who wasn't Mario, Peach, Dong or Pikachu.
TRU had a handful of everyone, but 3 WFT, 2 Villagers and a Marth in a pear tree. I decided to bite on their 3 for $30 deal and get Marth, Dong and Villager since I heard he was pretty uncommon.
Best Buy didn't appear to have any out by the Wii U/3DS stuff so I dunno if they stuck them in another aisle or what. Skylanders were there on the same aisle and Infinity had their guardians trailer blaring louder than it needed to.

Dong looks amazing, Marth kind of has a derp face, but it looks ok to me in person, and Villager looks good too with maybe the eyes a bit too far apart but otherwise fine.

I walked in to Gamestop after work and the only figure sold out was the one I wanted, Samus. Walked next door to Target and they had Samus, and were only sold out of Link.

Edit: It doesn't work like that EatChildren.

At my BB I saw every one. Only 3 villager left and 4 each Marth and WFT.

Others were pretty full.

On my lunch break I went to Target and found a Villager. Popped him out of the box as soon as I got back to my desk at work.

...guys, I messed up.

Europe won't join the fun until next week, but oddly enough, German Amazon is already sold out of Kirby amiibos. How?

I ordered Mario from Amazon with the sole purpose of just getting one. Somehow, I sent my wife to pick up Marth from Best Buy, but the shelves were ravaged. I told her to get me Link, then I was like nah, forget it get me Donkey Kong. However, she bought both Link and Donkey Kong and a surprise 3rd. Can't wait to see it LOL.

Why am I so excited about these figures?

I don't get the desire for it: it's just a little pink ball. It's cute, but such a lifeless pose like he's already down for the count.

So as I posted I got Marth and Pikachu, Marth just looks sooo bad. I might just flip it if it's expensive or return it.

Anyways, I was pretty picky about Skylanders and the two DI figures I picked up...the Amiibos seem ok, better than I thought.

I spent about 7 minutes examining them and here's what I thought. If I had a shitload of money I'd buy them all but I don't so I have to pick and choose. This is just what I thought about them, I was super hyped all night and I was really happy when I could finally go see them at the store.

Best:
Mario - he doesn't have the problem of a support piece and they captured his look pretty well. also has effect part which the others don't really have. Some figures had some eye paint problems though.

Fox/DK - Fox has a very eye-catching pose and his equipment is sculpted decently. Good texture on his fur and has a cool design. His support piece is blue but that's better than Link's yellow/orange. My MAJOR complaint is that the seamlines just slice his head in half at the nose. Who sculpted it like that..? Super awkward or else I would have grabbed a Fox today.

DK is pretty big and his stand is even less obtrusive than Fox. Textures are good, but he supports paint problem with his eyes, most looked imperfect. I don't really use DK so I'm not too tempted, and I just picked up the Jakks DK figure last month so I'm not planning to get this one for that reason only (or else I might get him, but I'll wait for my man DDD).

Samus - I already have the figma, but not here to compare them. I think some panel lines are too thick but the figure doesn't have many problems compared to the rest. She's in a suit with no face. I worry for ZSS. Samus is pretty good but I'm passing since I have the figma.

Kirby - Pretty good, it's hard to fuck it up completely due to such a simple design. I think some had slight problems but nothing major from what I saw.

Medium:
Pikachu - This is a simple design but even then they managed to fuck it up. There's some shading problems near the tail, and the or whatever they did has bubbles. You can see that the yellow on the body is not smooth. Also the sculpting seems too soft, his arms melt into his body. The one I picked up was ok in paint but there's small imperfection on his mouth. This one called out to me so I'm keeping him for now unless I find a better one. I felt that the Monster Collection Pikachu is too small, that's why I decided to get this one to fit in with my other toys better.

Link - This one is controversial, the pose is dynamic like Fox which gives a cool silhouette. The stand is not that bad but the orange/yellow is not cool, why not blue or green or black if not clear? The main problems with this one are the face and the limp limp sword. Some of them looked like crosseyed and some looked like creepy Christmas elves or something. I might cave in and buy this if there's a sale or something though, but i'm holding out for Toon Link since I have the figma Link already.

Yoshi - overall he seems OK. There's paint issues with the white smudging into the green. I like Yoshi but not that much, I already have a vinyl figure of him that I enjoy so didn't see the need to get this. Cute pose but he has lots of cuts that breaks up the sculpt.

Peach - I REALLY wanted to get her but I couldn't today, couldn't find a good one. There's two problems with her, the face is not sculpted well and then also not painted well. When I found one that was painted bad, her facial expression looked like a haunted doll but when I found one that was painted decently, there were problems with the paint on the dress. Hope I can find a good one!

Villager - He looks like he's a little stoned and then they put him in the package. The paint is clean but something about how they painted the eyes (a bit too thick outline maybe) and sculpted the hair really puts me off. There were only 2-3 of these on the shelf.

Wii Fit Trainer - I think the sculpt is pretty good on this one, they did a good job on that. However, seeing how the foot has a giant cast on it put me off, I was going to let that slide and grab it still but then I noticed that the foot fuses to another white piece on the stand. I really didn't like that, so I passed. I don't like using her in the game anyways. Only 4 on the shelf.

Bad:
Marth - HIS FACE. Everything else is good but some had paint splotches. Same limp sword as Link. The silhouette is nice though.

EDIT: My Best Buy looked like this.

My original plan was only to get Pit, Megaman, Shulk and Robin, thanks to this thread now I'm a proud owner of Mario, Villager, Kirby, Yoshi, DK and Pikachu.

Mario looks amazing btw

Got Mario, Kirby and Link. Had Yoshi at #3 in my power rankings of what to buy ahead of Kirby but thought Kirby was more iconic.

I got Link at my local Atlanta GS this morning when I picked the game. Want Kirby too. Gonna be hard trying to not get them all smh.

Went to my local Gamestop and Walmart and Marth and WFT were all sold out. Fox was also sold out at the walmart but my gamestop had like 2 left.

The main gaming hubs like Toys R Us, Gamestop, Best Buy, etc. seem to be low on Amiibos around where I live (central Indiana currently). Big box stores like Walmart and Target seem to be full.

That damn gamecube controller adapter though...I swear I just bought the last one in Indiana after 2 1/2 hours of searching. Even got told by a Gamestop an hour away they would hold one for me only to get there and they sold it.

I found one in a dark corner of a Fry's electronics. I approached it at the same time as another guy. We stared at each other. Fortunately I had purchased a Villager Amiibo earlier. He could tell. He walked the other way.

Probably the best display for it yet that I've seen! I also enjoyed the pics taken for the launch at Nintendo World. Geeze last night would've been awesome to go to something so massive with 3 big things coming out! But ya know, only one of those exist and I'm on the wrong side of the country...

I was really, really worried after all the threads about quality issues with these but I have to say they look quite awesome.

Only problem with any of them is that my Samus has the gangsta lean someone else described earlier but all the others look much better than I was expecting. Good work Nintendo!

Yeah this was at Best Buy, I went to EB after to check for Peach and they just plopped them on a shelf/rank and it was ugly. There were 2 breakdancing Yoshis too.

(Using a Digimon avatar for a while hoping Bandai will release the Vita game here. pls Bandai)

So you can't use your Amiibos online with friends?

Not the biggest deal (unless I am dumb and couldn't figure it out), but playing on a team with my favorite Amiibo against my friend and their favorite amiibo would have been really cool.

In regards to feeding Amiibos equipment I suspect they did it that way to encourage / deal with grinding tons of badges over time. Amiibos basically act as a trash compactor to suck up badges rather than just sell them for gold.

Otherwise I would agree it's very disappointing they can't be used as a partner for Classic and All Star. The AI can navigate stages like The Great Cave Offensive + it works in Smash Run on 3DS, so I can't imagine why the AI cannot be adapted to fight the Hands or cope with Master Fortress.

I'd really like to see that support in a future update. I like how Classic works in the Wii U version, it's a ton of fun in co-op with the large opponent count battles and random craziness that happens.

Dat Yoshi strut.

Also, even when you take a normal picture of Villager, he is frightening.

Huh, that looks like the same display I had visited earlier today to get my Samus Amiibo.

Riiiight, cause it's only for them, right? ;)
Truth be told I was figuring they'd pick a favorite or two and Dad would have the rest up on his nerd shelf.

To my surprise the girls LOVE the Amiibos -- they took turns picking out 5 each (leaving me with Marth and LInk) and have been swapping them in and out of 8 player (4 player team) mode for a few hours now. Squeals of laughter are constant. My old man eyes have a hard time figuring out what the heck is going on in that mode, but they are loving it. Letting them name the chars was smart of Nintendo as well, they spend 40min or more going through and picking names and looks.

Have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised how well they went over.

Also: Wavebird works great in the game (using the adapter).
