Vergil teased for DMC4:SE! (Also, DmC Definitive Edition trailer)

I've enjoyed all of the DMC games, outside of four because I bought it but haven't played it yet. I've had it since launch, too.

DMC 1 was really good, 2 wasn't great but was still somewhat fun, 3 was great and DmC: Devil May Cry was pretty damned solid. The combat was a lot of fun.

I may end up picking these up again, depending on price drops and what else is out.

Oh sweet, I never finished DmC last gen, I'm all over this!

DMC4, meh, it's kind of dull and basically half a game repeated with two different characters.

Not the cool, edgy answer but I'm far more excited by DmC.

You take that back right now, if you learn how to be even slightly good at DMC4 playing the first stage over and over and over is more enjoyable than DmC in its entirety!

I agree 100%
They fucked the campaign royally, but the combat is so deep, you can play one mission forever and never get bored.

Oh yeah, the combat is brilliant, probably the best in the series, but I still find it kind of dull. I had a lot more fun with DmC.

Loved that Vergil teaser but what was with the tacky commercial before it? Looked like some sort of DMC ripoff or something.

lol

It seems to me that you had more fun with the combat of DmC only because it's easy-mode to pull decent combos. And DMC4's combat ain't dull at all. It's actually the most sophisticated combat system in the genre.

It seems to me that your reading comprehension is lacking.

I said the combat is the best in the series (and by extension the genre), but found it dull regardless, due to the recycled environments, repetitive gameplay and awful story/cut scenes.

Or your writing skills are lacking. Read your posts again. The way they are structured, when you say 'it's kind of dull', 'it' references the combat.
If you mean that the combat is dull because of the 'recycled environments, repetitive gameplay and awful story/cut scenes', then no, the combat system has nothing to do with all that.
If by 'it' you meant the game in general, then while I disagree, at least your sentence makes sense.

I can't wait to just-rev Red Queen for the first time on a DS4, remap Nero's controls all to hell to facilitate constant Blue Rose charging while pulling off sword and ghost-arm combos, and Devil Bust everything ever to hell and back again. I know Nero isn't popular, but I love that little blue-armed bastard.

Actually I can absolutely wait, because I am still Salamander-deep in Bayonetta 2.

Nero became more popular as the years went by, it was just the initial reveal that dante wasnt the MC of 4 that soured some people

Eh? Not sure what you're supposed to be getting at here. Unless you actually think people dislike DmC to be "edgy" as opposed to disliking it for being a vastly inferior game.

I think the general criticism of the quality of DMC4's actual campaign is entirely on point, and I'd say it's entirely arguable that the campaign is one of the few things DmC did better than DMC4 (the other things would be the structure of collectibles, the flexibility of the demon/angel pull, and the environmental/level art design). It's just that the lasting appeal of a character action game has very little to do with the quality of its campaign. And the DMC-proper series does absolutely have some significant flaws worth rectifying; it's just that DmC didn't do a very good job of addressing those actual flaws.

Nero's a totally solid playable character - I'd say that the previous dislike of Nero has a lot to do with the early reaction to DMC4 which was based largely around the quality of the campaign.

Hopes:

1. Nero gets another melee weapon and firearm.
2. Vergil actually gets story treatment and not just unlockable.
3. Additional levels for Dante with no backtracking.
4. Gloria makes glorious return as a boss,
make her a separate character or the franchise needs another sexy dark chick :p
5. Bloody palace bigger and badder than ever, option for customization.
6. Boss battle mode and with returning bosses from DMC1 and DMC3.
7. Hints for DMC5.

Good suggestions all. Even if half of them make it I'll be happy.

1 - Yeah, a gauntlet and a shotgun for Nero would be a nice nod to DMC1 and the fact that Nero's a bit of a clean-slate for combat design with nowhere to go but up. But I don't expect him to get that stuff until DMC5.

2 - A short campaign for Vergil would be quite neat, yeah, but I'm unsure how likely it is that they're going to spend time on making level assets for this. Again, might be effort better spent on DMC5. Strongly suspect he'll be a costume or something, but yeah, given the way DMC4's campaign is structured (individual chapters belong solely either to Nero or to Dante) I'm not sure how they plan to make him playable outside of the Bloody Palace. Not saying it can't be done, but will he be allowed to play Dante's levels? Nero's levels? Both, somehow? Will we be able to fight Vergil as either of them?

3 - see 2.

4 - Ehhhh. Gloria's a pretty bad character design and she gets exactly one good cutscene. If anything, DMC4 needs less emphasis on BOOBS BOOBS BOOBS - it's got a really shitty depiction of Lady, for example, who was an amazing character in DMC3. I'm always down for more boss fights, of course.

5 - I think the Bloody Palace (and/or separate-but-similar modes) are really likely to get expansion, yeah.

6 - And yes, I sort of suspect that a boss battle mode is how that might happen (and goodness knows it'd be awesome). It'd be really, really great to bring Phantom back, plus Nelo Angelo, Cerberus, Beowulf, Nevan, etc etc. - not to mention maybe a classic weapon pack for Dante.

7. All but guaranteed, yeah.

New levels for Dante would be amazing but I highly doubt it. A boss battle mode is a must though. I've always wanted to practice on the bosses without having to play the entire mission.

EDIT: Oh and Vergil better be playable outside of Bloody Palace.

My dream would be them adding all the things they cut during DMC4 development, see Dante's weapons for example, their names don't match the name of the boss from which he got them, that makes me think about more fights planned for Dante, but they got cut because they had to rush it.

Not that I'll ever say no to more DMC boss fights and content, but I'm not 100% sure about this (though yes, DMC4's somewhat troubled development certainly resulted in more reused content than DMC1 or 3 - I don't think anyone will dispute that). Gilgamesh, at the very least, is very visually similar to Echidna.

Really, DMC3 is the only game in the series to fairly definitively link your Devil Arms to the bosses you killed to get them. Elsewhere that link is less clear (though they clearly do possess the spirits of a devil).

The salt comment was a joke, I just think he's fed up of being asked about DMC. He used to give better responses, now he's just blocking people for asking him about DMC.

Salty?Nah, we know him guys, he's just tired of listening to questions about the same arguments (such as DMC) over and over again.

Edit: ah Ok bomb xD
Edit2: Interesting Guardian, where did he say that?Didn't know about that but actually Bayonetta kinda is an evolution of Itsuno's DMCs.

I believe he says it in this Q&A. Site's currently blocked for me, though:

HK: It sounds silly to be “influenced” by your own creation which is Devil May Cry, but I can say that you may find quite a few common features, as my faith towards action games has never changed. However, I did not play DMC1 not even once while developing Bayonetta (I have played about half of DMC4 as part of my research study though). I have deliberately created Bayonetta from scratch and tried to make the game as original as possible, although there will be some similar elements to my previous games in there I’m sure, such is my unchanged faith in developing action games. Anyway, it’s been eight years since DMC1, so of course I wouldn’t create a game that hadn’t progressed from those days! Of course, if there hadn’t have been DMC, there wouldn’t be Bayonetta, which has evolved from DMC.

There's also the fact that quite a few people that worked on DMC3 and DMC4 also worked on Bayonetta.

That's because he didn't kill them for it, those were the Devil Arms that Agnus used to keep the gates open.

Man if Vergil gets fully voice acted and choreographed action cutscenes (even if it's just two like in DMC3SE) I will lose my shit.

If they do a cutscene with his confrontation against Mundus... I don't know what I would do.

WHERE THE GOD DAMN DMC4SE LEAKS AT???

I have resorted to checking out Gamefaqs and Capcom Unity now...

The DMC4SE site taunts me.

The 3 colors used in the logo (DMC spelled out in red for Dante, the 4 and Nero in blue and the Special Edition in Cyan of Vergil's Spiral Swords) and the 3 color splashes in the background representing each individual character.

They know I want this so bad. They fucking know it....

Surprised that no one has put out DMC4SE fake box arts yet.

I hope PC gets the New Shit in some form or another.

If you have to charge me a few bucks to justify it, whatever.
