Women correct me if I'm wrong but I doubt females find this an attractive design, I'd say they would find noctis, cloud, or any other final fantasy male lead more visually attractive then this.

I think square probably are trying to tap into the female mobile gamer crowd as are they not the bigger audience on mobile? So it will be interesting to see the characters personality to see if it targeted to women.

But yea I will admit I don't like the skimpyness of the clothes and it has made me think how it must be for women gamers woth some games and marketing etc.
Why would you think this is SE pandering to females? Why couldn't this just be a ill advised bad design choice?

Well... he's quite sexualized.

I'm not really into very muscular guys. But it's neat that male characters are being sexualized, too.

Sorry that's what I was getting at in my first bit, that it could be rubbish design as I can't see this being directly sexualized to get women's attention.

But I could be wrong and they actually did do this to pander to females, which is what I meant by bringing his personality into it as women are typically (right or wrong) though to be attracted more by personality.

Either way it's a bad design but they must have a reason for it, as square surely can't be this bad?

Tell that to all of the people who defended Cindy's look in the FF15 threads, and then I'll consider it bullshit. Until then, it's quite legitimately still a problem.

Cidney isn't a fighter! How is that not obvious? I'm not saying her design isn't bad (tho I never noticed anything besides her face and southern accent til this thread), but what's practical for her is completely different than what's practical for someone getting out to battle.

Gimme a break. This design is trash. It'd be trash on a female. And I don't wanna hear "what, guys can't be sexualized?". The FF 15 crew are designed like bait to attract women, and that's actually fine. One dude just walks around with his chest out everywhere. It's stupid from a logic perspective, but he kinda looks cool so whatever, roll with it.

This ain't cool, it's just goofy. And if this is what the rest of the party looks like...lol I don't even know.

That may be the worst male character design I've ever seen. It's like they were dared to make the least functional, least attractive clothing ever.

How the hell do you even put those pants on?

The armor design itself, especially the legs, is pretty ridiculous and bad. But I don't mind the sexualization.
Quite the opposite, really~

I'm positive the problem is how there's huge imposing thigh guards, then this

It's nsfw so it cannot be posted, but it's a clear example of that tweet with a ninja dressed like a woman with his dingaling wrapped in white tape.

As a gay guy I think its hot, it's good to have some man candy. The outfit not being practical never seems to be a problem if it's a women with oversized cleavage having to fight in a maid costume.

I don't see the problem. He chose to wear this, because he's so confident that he doesn't need armour, so it's very empowering. Plus it's just stylized fantasy anyway.

Why are you guys such big prudes? You guys won't be happy until they all wear giant burkas! Stop censoring the artistic vision!

funny how certain folks complained about the FFXV wearing all black compared to this? lol

FFXV main character designs are great and I really can't complain about it.

Mevius' MC has one of the worst designs I've seen. I'd be fine seeing this design in NieR, but it's not.

yeah...except for the fact that he does have quite a bit of armor on lol

This post really does go both ways lol.

So is this as awful as I think it is, or just not my tastes? It's hard to believe a character could look this bad from a top dev to me, so I just want to be sure.

Kratos does have no armor but there's no controversy surrounding his design. The way this character (doesn't?) wear his armor is not empowering, it's emasculating.

The only part of his design I don't like is his boring face and hair. His hair is a bit better in the artwork but it's straighter and highly generic in game.

Otherwise I think his armor is fine and hearkens back to old Amano designs, which, the more whimsical and fantasy like, the better IMO. It has a little bit of a modern flair to it but this game looks to be more fantasy than modern which I love to see.

Also pleased with how good it looks on mobile. Hopefully it is highly reviewed and gets more people into playing games on Android/iOS, and more developers into developing quality titles. I'm tired of having a sleek, incredibly powerful device in my pocket, but having all the high quality games developed for severely underpowered dedicated handheld gaming consoles that are bulky and that I must carry around in addition to my sleek powerful expensive device. Google Play Games and iOS Game Center are there. Controller support is there. Let's get this thing going.

He would look much better without the stupid thigh armor.

yeah the problem is the armor itself, not the exposed body that I welcome with pleasure for a change.

I must say though people are really becoming annoying in this generation of grown-up gamers with western stylized games. When I was young, during the 90s, these were typical jrpg japanese outfits and we found them cool. Now everything must be boring or standarized to appeal to a western gamer. Or else is "too gay" or "too stupid" depending on the user. It's a game set in a fantasy world and developed by a traditional japanese jrpg company. You can't expect Dragon Age here. You buy it precisely because you like these stuff, or else you're just in the wrong topic and talking of the wrong game.
