TLG should have been canned years ago. Even if it does somehow get released, all this pussyfooting around is what it's going to be remembered for.

If it's a good game, who gives a shit about it's development legacy? Actually, even if it's a bad game, why care?

As gamers, we should ideally remember and judge a game based on what it is, and not what it was.

I don't play Dragon Age : Origins and colour my opinion of it by constantly having the thought of "man, I waited five years for this game since E3 2004." looming over my experience of that game.

Wild and the The Tomorrow Children got me excited at that event. I felt the presentation overall was better. Solidly full of games and of a good pace.

What I don't want from Sony is a huge 3rd party section with games we've seen at E3 already at Ubisoft, EA etc's conferences. That was the beauty of Gamescom. Everything felt fresh.

Three big IP's from Sony will be good, but I want to see some smaller, new, innovative first party games.
Gamescom will be better presented this year too. SCEE is simply better at that aspect.

The third party section can't be avoided at E3 though. You're going to see games at Sony's conference that you'll see at other publisher conferences. It's important to have them on stage, because it's about promoting the platform. Just like you want to see new games, Sony wants to show everything that it has coming, and that includes big franchises. Titles like Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, Madden, Battlefront, and others, are all important for both Sony and Micrsoft. You're going to show what you can.

The way I view this issue is a bit different. The problem isn't necessarily that you have third party games given a lot of time, it's just that in the past two years, some people were fatigued with the ones being shown. That's not to say they're the ones with the only valid viewpoint, because Destiny has a lot of fans on GAF, and it's probably the main title that takes the brunt of that criticism. It still had over a dozen OTs on here. The other issue the focus tends to be with is franchises that have a lot of exposure.

The important thing is balance. If you were shown third party games, but it wasn't just the annualised titles, and you got to see new announcements, or footage of different types of titles, this wouldn't feel like as much of a sticking point. Would people feel like that about titles like DMC, Persona, Resident Evil, and various others? I'll take this a more general route now, rather than as a response to you.

The way the E3 conference is organised is that it involves speaking to a lot of different developers, writing scripts for people, coordinating what's going to be shown, how the segments are broken down, where everything fits, how much time is given, and then the people responsible have to put everything together. I'm not trying to make excuses for them here. Microsoft and the other publishers also do presentations, so it's not a unique situation necessarily. SCEA's conferences do feel bloated, and the pacing can be off. They also want to give developers a place to kind of talk, and present their games, and how you feel about this is going to vary from individual to individual. Some people would probably prefer a more focused presentation with one presenter, who keeps things flowing (amongst bringing in a few folks at times to talk), while others might not mind the current format too much. It allows the people involved to do something too. Mind you, they're aware of this. And not just that, but also the idea of trying to get more presence from other types of games, and Japanese games. You just have to fit everything in, and that's not always easy. There's pressure on them too.

It's about balance though. SCEJ/A has their own presentation later in the year, and you also have TGS, and they need a platform to promote games that appeal to their market. Not everything can be at E3, but at the same time, E3 is still very much an important place to be. So bringing titles that you might not usually expect at E3, and trying to promote them isn't a bad idea. That's something that can be addressed, and will kind of be addressed this year a little bit.

I, personally, feel very good about this E3. Not about the presentation itself, but I'm talking about the content. Most of the first party titles initially announced are out of the way, or soon to be out of the way. This naturally puts us in a position where you start looking towards the next set of titles that will take most of the focus over the coming two years.

You're still going to get people upset because they don't like Morpheus, or they don't like more casual titles, or they don't like western titles, or for some other reason. There's always something. The key is just to provide a good balance, and give people a bit of everything. If it's presented well too, then it doesn't feel too draining either. And that's a good strategy because that's what Sony wants the PS4 to be. You're not just trying to appeal to one set of people, and everyone has different tastes.

There's a good variety this year. I'm not trolling, or trying to get your hopes up so I can see them crash and burn. Japanese gaming fans should be pleased, because there's a good presence there. It's not at the expense of western published titles, so they'll absolutely be there, and if people don't like that, then you have to understand that there are those who do like to see those titles. Not everyone is going to watch every conference. Since there's a couple of new announcements, and some nice surprises at Sony's E3, there should be enough there to make most people happy, even if there may be certain segments not everyone will be interested in.

Like I said before, this year is about as good as it gets for the most part. Most people are going to come away from E3 feeling more positive. But every year, there's always people who expect half a dozen megatons. A lot of people say it as a joke, but there's people who think of it very sincerely. In my eyes, it's not about that one big announcement, it's about having a good balance of everything. That "high" is only going to last so long, if everything else isn't where it needs to be.

And the kind of big announcements that people really want, such as huge third party exclusives, or the fabled FF7 remake, all of this stuff is not possible every year. And no one should be going in with that kind of mindset. That should be your icing on the cake. You shouldn't be thinking that's what it's going to take to be satisfied with the conference. Even if a big third party exclusive isn't announced, does that really make a difference to gamers? If just a big third party game is announced, you're still going to be able to play it. It's silly to look at these things as being the most important part of the conference, and it tends to be these things that disappoint a lot of people. They're always waiting for that one big exclamation point, and some massive surprise. But here's the thing, if we deliver something like that one year, and there's going to be a moment when it happens, then what about the next year, or the year after that? It's not going to happen all the time. Those are your rare moments, and it's part of why they're so memorable.

Same song and dance before every E3. And Gamescom. And that one PSX event. I won't list TGS though, 'cos that's been shit for years so no one has bothered to drum up excitement for it (and then it rather disarmingly got good again last year, but whatever).

Not to shit on Bruce or anything, and god knows he's delivered in the past, but I've been hardened by enough previous event shortcomings to not fall for this catch-all, hype-mongering kind of tweet anymore. Not that I'm constantly disappointed either - I'm not - but this whole very broad "Be stoked!" schtick tends to elicit nothing more than an eye roll now.

Maybe if he were a little more specific.
You're being unfair to him. A lot of these developers tend to be hard at work, and they're obviously passionate about games, so just like yourselves, E3 is an opportunity for them to see projects from other publishers, and even first party stuff. I don't think his intention is drum up excitement so much as it is probably trying to share his own within reason of what he's able to say. It's a twitter comment, so he's just engaging his own twitter friends or whatever you call them.

So that will be the moment when they announce that Sony Japan FF esque Rpg, Gravity Rush 2 for Ps4 and The Last Guardian !

giphy.gif
Nope. I said this a couple years ago, but that title will make its debut at E3. That's the place for it. The SCEJ/A presentation is the one before TGS. It's where DQH was announced last year, and Ishin the year before if I recall correctly.

SCEJA press conference is by and large worthless to those without any care for the mid-tier, or regionally focused Japanese games.

Any 'big' Japanese game with a global focus will more likely than not either be announced at a western event, like E3.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
A bit of a long shot, but I think we should hear the first infos about Nintendo E3 plans soon. I mean, if they follow the same plan as last year, the video announcement of the Digital Event / correlated E3 and in-store events shouldn't be that far, right?
And it should still be as batshit insane as last year, right?

Last year, Nintendo announced their plans for E3 on April 29. A late April announcement isn't unlikely, but details could also be given in conjunction with Nintendo's Fiscal Year Earnings Release for FY 2014 on May 7.

Indeed. That's why most of your smaller stuff at conferences at E3 and Gamescom is very much western focused too. Some stuff really doesn't fit. What could be a route in the future is if there are titles initially announced via those conferences that seem like they have potential, or look interesting, then you can maybe give them a little bit of time at other events if the situation really fits.

You're misunderstanding what I said. I said it's going to make it's debut at E3. That doesn't mean it has to be this year. For all you know, it's 2016. Maybe it's 2019. Where's your excitement now?

you like to crush hopes & dreams...huh ? -.-
Well you didn't deny a 2015 announcement...so it still could happen ;)

Ni no kuni ni & dark cloud 3 will be exciting enough

ni no kuni with ps4 power --> most beautiful cell shading Game

Fallout 4 would make E3 for me, no question. This series made me love RPGs all over again and the lore of it is fun to explore. So even if the rest of the showing was underwhelming, (like lack of gameplay footage and trailers only). I'll have Heavensword, MGSV, Batman, and XCX to keep me occupied.

I'm half expecting to see the next Destiny game to be previewed, just to see if there is anything that'll bring me back.

Not going to expect Saints Row anymore, I think Voliton are done with the series, with the direction they took I think it's safe to say they want to move on.

Not really interested in CoD, never have so hopefully Microsoft will try to have more than that to fall back on in their presentation.

Sony might have more Street Fighter V stuff, perhaps they have some surprises up their sleeves.

Nintendo will probably do it's Treehouse thing again, though I'm not expecting any new reveals since we know at least Splatoon, XCX, and Mario Maker are their heavy hitters. We may see info on Starfox and Zelda though, and Yarn Yoshi so there is that.

Every year's SCEJA presser is so fun to look at GAF in general.

From the complete cultural disconnect "desu ne hai hai hai dozo" to the "what is this anime game, lewd stuff, OH U JAPAN" to the "where are the Japanese megatons!?" to annual misinformation "B-b-b-b-but this is two weeks before TGS, there'll be another conference at TGS right!?!?"

I always love the Pre-TGS conference, because I love Japanese games. They don't all have to be megatons, and I don't even have to want most of them for myself, it is just encouraging to see the Japanese development scene coming out with things in a positive way.

All the assumptions and confusion is pretty amusing. People coming in to those threads talk about anime games negatively really should piss off, seriously though.

That place is hilarious in general. Some interesting personalities, that's for sure.

I don't believe that TLG is not in E3 this year Verendus! #TEAMREAL
Are you sure? I told people not to expect it at PSX but they got their hopes up, and cried about it later then. My advice is for your benefit. Just forget it. If it ever shows up, then there'll be something to be happy about. If it doesn't, then it's not like you had any expectations. TLG is like a shadow that is trying its best to kill excitement for everything else. You need to elminate that shadow.

No Man's Sky, Persona 5, Until Dawn and Tearaway Unfolded release date
R&C gameplay

Morpheus launch titles including MMs "game"

that's pretty much what I expect from Sonys conference at this point. And

Rime release date
More about WiLD
TLG
UC Collection

I'm looking forward to Microsoft's conference the most.

Tomb Raider, Halo, and Forza are all coming this year, and I want to get a look at more of Tomb Raider, and Halo especially. More Quantum Break will be good, because I love my TPS games.

The most interesting one is possibly Scalebound. Platinum Games does a good job of mechanics, but I've always felt the surrounding aspects of their games tend to be lacking, so I'm really curious to see what it's shaping up to be with Microsoft's involvement. This could be something really good.

Crackdown could go either way. I wasn't a big fan of it, but I'm open to playing it if the new one looks interesting.

As for new announcements, a lot of people in this thread mentioning Battletoads which I'd never heard of. A quick google shows that it was basically a brawler though, so I'm kind of hoping something like this really does exist. I'm in a very Streets of Rage mood these days, so I don't mind Microsoft creating something similar to that also. Updated to 3D of course. Even if I get The Bouncer flashbacks, it's about time we get something like that, but a lot better. The more, the merrier. If it had local multiplayer, it'd be even more special.

If you don't know Battletoads you can always call GameStop about it for a copy. They now carry retro games.

Sounds great if you like Western games and Platinum Games. Can't say I do. I dunno... I'll reserve. You judgment until I see Scalebound in action but I just never did enjoy anything from Platinum. Rare would be the dev that sounds interesting to me.

I'm not interested in MS conference itself (aside from 3rd party multiplat), but it's always great when all the Big 3 have great showings, it's only healthy for the whole indusrty.

I doubt Zelda will get a release date
At most, the subtitle (which is believed to be Hyrule) will be revealed.

The release date still says 2015 on NoA's press page, they will likely change it to TBA by E3 or May 7/8.

Just "The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule"?

Haven't followed the game much. Was my game of the show last year so I'm already on board, after it was acknowledged that maybe the tutorials and stuff were overdone in Skyward Sword.

I actually think that Nintendo is going to back off a little on the Zelda and Star Fox. I truly believe they will be on a different console. Ton of Xenoblade, Maro Maker, Splatoon, Smash DLC, 3DS. Maybe tease Star Fox and Zelda.

Verendus,you're a godsend:)

You leak just enough to keep us entertained but never come out and outright spoil everything. Which is perfect for me, i like to be a little surprised, which can be hard if you follow gaf pre e3.

Somewhere at Sony there's bound to be someone happy that you're here. You're our regular Sony insider, but you also get banned regularly for trolling, which shows you're still one of us:)
Wish we had an MS or Nintendo insider with your charisma!

The problem is a lot of the games that were announced already still haven't come out. So we will get another year of repeated games which is annoying.

For example for Sony
- Rime
- Shadow of the Beast
- The Witness
- Until Dawn
- Tearaway Unfolded
- Ratchet and Clank
- Everybody Gone to the Rapture
- Uncharted 4
- Street Fighter V
- Persona 5
- Alienation
- Guns Up
- The Tomorrow Children

Then they will probably show 3rd party stuff like
- Destiny DLC
- Star Wars Battlefront
- Mad Max

Then the casual fluff
- Morpheus Games
- SingStar

Which probably only leaves for probably only one or two AAA game announcement and probably three smaller game announcements.
