I really...really want to ask you this guys.
Why do you still pre-order or even buy games day 1 knowing that companies don't really give a damn about PC ports most of the time... they just want the quick cash and only optimize games on console.

My philosophy?.. just wait till you get them 75% off and so you give them enough time to fix them.
Do I hurt the industry? maybe.. but why should I care? they don't care about us either.

I want your opinions, because I'm really tired of this.

Dragon Age Inquisition doesn't have performance issue.
Take the blame somewhere else.

Eh... Inquisition gave me more than its fair share of technical issues, not least of which was some rotten microstuttering on my 970 that I think sort of got resolved.

Whether that had anything to do with Denuvo, I have no clue.

Not sure if this has been posted, not my image either:

Seriously though, what the hell is wrong with the missing graphical effects on the PC version? A bug or some weird form of parity?

Usually even the worst PC versions are better than the console equivalents is why. This is a freak incident.

'hurting the industry' isn't even a thought in my mind while waiting for games to be cheaper.

Yeah there doesnt seem to be any rain effects on any surface in the PC version other than a slight gloss. Like they forgot to pack the texture or something.

Because there are good deals on pre-orders, it's fun to shop for games, and this bad an experience is far from normal. All the talk about developers not giving a shit about PC, cashing in, lazy ports, etc is mostly all conjecture from my experience. The majority of PC launches are at least "fine" when they come out.

I didn't pre order this one but that's the general logic. People talk about studios screwing over PC gamers and throw around a lot of hyperbole but frankly I just don't really see it that often.

That said this game is a shit show of issues and generally seems pretty phoned in.

A lot of people can't even launch the game because of the DRM.

Please tell me how a game that literally can't function isn't as bad as the "almost-unplayable" Deadly Premonition.

The Steam store page for the game doesn't list any additional DRM. Are they just lying? WTF.

I seriously doubt it knowing WB's methods, but it would be nice to have free apology DLC for existing owners like Ubisoft did.

Perhaps he's wondering why someone would shoot a man before throwing him out of a plane.
Oh my God, I just realized that the E3 2014 trailer foretold all of this...

Okay that looks leagues better than what I've been able to squeeze out of the game through config file tweaks, GPU control center overrides, and even (funny enough this helped a bit) setting the game to run in compatibility mode for Vista SP1.. I feel like there should be a "High" option for textures (at least) since many others go to High. What is going on with this port?? I'm real bummed.

Fire up those Steam refunds GAF. Send WB a message.

The game, and Denuvo, will still be waiting for you during the Winter sale.

So... maybe someone can help me here. Whenever I start the game, screen disappears and it's taskbar icon disappears as well. I know game is on since I can hear the menu music and I see it in the task manager. How can I play the damn game on PC? I'm running it on windows 8.1.

Nvm. I figured it out.

I've been off reading about this: the company that created Denuvo tries to make a huge point that it isn't DRM; it's "anti-tamper".

I mean, it clearly is DRM, and that's just BS marketing because DRM has a negative image, but it seems they may be sticking to that and Valve is going along. (Do they tell you on Origin about Denuvo for things like DA: I?).

This has really shaken me, I have to admit. I've likely already compromised too much using Steam at all without all this.

Please, gaf, get up and do something about this one.

Seriously, we are talking about a company that just knowingly and deliberately mislead customers towards buying a broken, downgraded product.

I know the gaming industry has had a lot of controversy this last year, but I can't remember the last time a big-name publisher/developer did something so dishonest and unethical. This wasn't a fucking "accident" or "oversight," and if it was something that trivial, I'll be happy to revise my comments (like the wrong version was uploaded to Steam, lol).

Here are some things you can do:
  • Create a negative review on Steam BEFORE you get a refund.
  • Add negative reviews for previous Warner Bros titles. Hit them in the catalog, not just with this title.
  • Get a refund.
  • If you bought from a non-Steam source (such as GMG), ask for a refund anyway. It might feel like you're wasting your time, but GMG isn't ever going to create refunds unless there's demand. And trust me, with enough customer support tickets, GMG will put pressure on Warner Bros.
  • Report Warner Brothers to the Better Business Bureau.
  • If you know anyone in the video game press, ask them to cease all coverage of Arkham Knight until the PC issues are resolved.
  • Don't let threads in gaming communities fail
  • Use social media for public shaming of Warner Brothers. Commit to some reasonable schedule.

It's gonna take more than Durante's Magic to fix this.

I have to wonder if Nvidia/WB/Rocksteady lied about what version was which in promotional videos.

I guess it's time to stop trusting Steam. As if all the early access bullshit hadn't eroded it enough already. Fuck this industry.

Don't just do negative reviews, either. Report the product.

Seriously, Steam is advertising a product that isn't functional. And the screenshots are misleading, as we now know that those videos and screenshots aren't indicative of the actual product. Every single screenshot includes AO, which we know that Arkham Knight simply does not have.

Report it as Broken, because that's what it is.

I feel like this is a bit of an overreaction.

It was my reaction too, though. I was naive enough to assume Valve would always tell me about third-party DRM. I was lax about that and it seems I was wrong. Now, I can't trust them to do this and I'll have to research it myself every time.

It really sucks for everyone who got this on PC, but really folks this is why you shouldn't ever pre-order.

What does NOT pre ordering do? So many gamers try to say this like it means something. Pre ordering is a gamers right there's no harm in it.

Just blame the publishers and devs.

Holy shit, my game isn't anywhere NEAR this bad. I'll just get a few frame drops and microstutters every few minutes, but otherwise it's smooth.

Is this what people have been complaining about?

This has to be due to the 3.5GB of VRAM on that 970, because it never happens on my Titan X.

This is basically what my game looked like, only with less crashing, when I had gameworks stuff on. With gameworks stuff off it works fine. He's got gameworks on. He should turn gameworks off. I wish the gameworks stuff wasn't so blinkered, but it is. If this is you, and you've got gameworks shit on, try turning it off.

Report it as broken because there's no AO. There's the Dark Souls 2 lighting controversy and then there's this. The no AO stuff is a bummer but this is getting a touch melodramatic.

Ah so you have a 970! That explains it. Seriously though, if you think that 970 is going to serve you well until this time next year then I have some news for you. I had a 970 for ONE day before I returned it because I knew that 3.5 thing would be an issue, as has been proven today

There's absolutely no reason a 970 can't handle this game, if properly optimized, based on console performance and specs. Stop blaming everyone except the responsible parties.

ive gotten it reasonably playable with those maybe/maybenot placebo tweaks but it effectively looks indistinguishable from arkham city

based on that ps4 gif it dont seem like they can just flip a couple of switches and patch it in 48 hours

I broke down and got it again on ps4. Runs like a dream. 30 fps but seems much smoother than pc 30 fps. Graphically it is a lot prettier too.

Run's like shit. Stutters quite a bit, I have frequent drops in the teens?! With a GTX 980 Ti. At 1080P. Unacceptable. Very disappointing. Sad Batman.

Fuck this is depressing really wanted to play this game being a huge Arkham fan, but I won't be supporting this game until the product is cheaper and fixed.

You may not agree with me on this but in my opinion, WB should make this up by:

a) fixing the PC version game ASAP ( I mean real fix, not some useless update)

b) offering the Season Pass to us gamers for a discount (or better yet, free).

Yeah that's what happened to me at that exact same part on my 970. Even the odds dropped my game to 0 fps. And bat mobile in general is a frame killer

have you tried not maxing it out? I mean, I know, you've got the pimpest shit in terms of video cards right now and you shouldn't have to turn anything down from 11. It's a travesty. But have you tried turning off the gameworks shit?

Seriously turn off gameworks. Or at least the fog. The fog is a frame killer. I went through the same shit. In fact, I'm the guy quoted in OP whose game crashed when I tried to EVEN THE ODDS. And it runs pretty much fine without gameworks on.
