This is a topic that deserves way more attention than it has gotten. Many people are at a greater risk of catching sexually transmitted diseases and causing unwanted pregnancies simply because they cannot buy condoms that fit. What needs to be done is to allow the purchase of European Condoms within the United States. Its a simple solution.

This is a quote from reddit user named "JoeTheyFit" who makes and sells condoms explaining this issue:

It's done with good intentions. By controlling the sizes, the testing that all condoms must undergo before being passed fit for sale can be standardised (made the same in each testing lab, and for each time the tests are performed). The problem is that the way the FDA control the sizes happens to cause this problem for bigger (and smaller) guys.

Until 2008 the FDA width restriction was 50-54mm at the opening - that's why magnum/magnum xl are 54mm nominal width condoms.

In Europe, they do the same - control the sizes in order to standardise the testing. It just so happens the way the Europeans do it allows widths 41-69mm, a massively expanded range, therefore fitting essentially all men comfortably and safely. European condoms are still tested to the same high standards (arguably in some regards higher).

Another quote by Dearerstill (another reddit user) explains this issue a bit more:

Condoms undergo rigorous quality control testing. The reasons for this are obvious. To do quality audits on a reasonable budget you need standardized equipment and a repeatable process for all condoms. The FDA just adopted the industry standards. So right now the FDA is not equipped to ensure the quality of 60 mm wide condoms.

Obviously the size limit is a significant public health issue. One thing they really ought to do (and this goes for everything they regulate) is allow anything that has been approved by 2-3 reliable European consumer/health regulatory agencies. Europe allows a much larger range of condoms and ensures their quality. Any company approved in Europe should be allows to export their product to the states.

According to a 1999 study, "Each additional centimeter of penile circumference increased the risk of condom breakage by 50-100%. This finding suggests a need to increase either the range of condom sizes available or the lateral extension of currently available condoms." So by the FDA not allowing the production of larger condoms or the sale of European ones; men with larger dicks have an increased chance of condom breakage by 200% or more. Thats millions of men at risk of catching sexual transmitted diseases or unintentionally getting women pregnant!

But this does not explain why European condoms are banned in the United States. We do not need to change our own testing policies to fix this problem. Since 2008, the width restrictions have been uped from 54mm to 57mm. However, for many men this is still not enough. All we have to do is allow the sale of European condoms to the American market. It is a simple solution and there is no reason not to.

Before you make a comment about how this is nonsense. How if a condom can fit on a watermelon or over your head or whatever random object you decide to put a condom over read this:

Just because a condom can fit on something way larger than a dick does not mean it will be comfortable to wear. It does not mean it will fit properly. And it does not mean IT WILL BE SAFE TO WEAR DURING SEX.

Gonna be completely honest, this kinda thing is really frustrating. I had to go all over the place and try a bunch of condoms till I found one that fit even remotely comfortably. Default magnums really suck, (while the rest of it isn't bad, the opening is WAY too small), as do most other condoms.

In the end I had to get a really weird type of condom where it has a rounded tip and the resevoir is on the sides. I can only imagine how it is for people who are even bigger than me. Must be horrible.

Man, that's some bullshit. I don't see any good reason to prevent Americans from buying European condoms. It's not like they're a bunch of Neanderthals who have no standards over there or something and all our dicks are going to shrink upon wearing their haphazardly tested condoms.

Default Magnums were okay for me, but it's like they don't fit completely right.

I'll admit I'm not big enough to go XL. But, I found standard sized condoms a bit too constricting.

You might be onto something with the opening. It was too small, but the head was alright.

Well the guy JoeTheyFit I quoted used to actually sell condoms illegally to US citizens but eventually got caught. I don't know what his punishment was, but technically he was breaking a federal law.

Actually...yea. I've had a number of Trojan's break over the years. You know what's a bad fucking feeling? pulling your shit out and seeing the whole thing at the base of your dick. "Damn...this is feeling a little too good..again?..." And yea the proper amount of space is left at the end.

I didn't enjoy sex with condom until I found MySize, but I think we established that they don't exist in the US due to these FDA regulations? That's bullshit.

All standard condoms seem to be 53 in circumference in Sweden, even the "jumbo" ones, which is weird as hell. Yeah, just make them longer, that'll help.

Or yknow, something like theyfit for the US.

Or even better, if they actually put the goddamn nominal width on american condoms in some easily seen location so I don't have to go buying a bunch to know what works and what doesn't.

I'm really surprised that in this day and age that there isn't really a large scale online service that allows men to purchase condoms that are custom fit to their parts.
