Star Wars Battlefront Beta Thread: He’s holding a thermal detonator!

This game nails the feel of the movies. Amazing so far.

Man, the Snowspeeder handles like shit on PC. I know it's not out there to dogfight, but it was hard just pitching down to attack the AT-AT and line up the cables.

Are the AT-STs and snowspeeders playable? I couldn't figure out how to pilot one.

EDIT: The special grenade sound design is absolutely fantastic. The whole game sounds great, as a matter of fact.

Like all vehicles, they're placed randomly around the map. I believe speeders only become available in the 3rd section though.

So Ive been playing for the last few hours, probably have around 15 Walker Assault matches under my belt at this point.

Not ONCE did the Rebels win.

Those of you who have been playing today, how many times did the rebels win on Hoth? Im almost convinced that you cant do it. Snowspeeders are too rare (and damn near impossible to trip up the walkers anyway) and turrets and small arms fire just dont do enough damage. The last section of the map feels more like a formality since if the walkers have more than 1/4 health it seems the empire is pretty much guaranteed to win.

From an initial assessment, DICE has their work cut out for them getting this game balanced.

I was just about to come and ask the same thing. Being the rebels is basically an auto loss.

I've seen the Rebels win twice so far in like 12 matches or so. It's like BF4 where it's either all or nothing when it comes to balance since so many people ignore objectives. Rarely any real competitive MP matches in games these days so it's hard to say if it's the mode itself since a Rebel team with 6 less players just beat us.

Ok not trolling, I'm back from watching a bit of Battlefront at twitch and had to ask: What does Battlefront bring new from Battlefront 2? I mean once I got past the amazing graphics it's kinda more of the same. I kind of wish they'd Battlefield'd it a bit, with commanders and stuff.

I haven't played the beta version yet (currently downloading) but in the other beta/alpha from a while ago I remember winning a decent number of times as the rebels. It definitely felt trickier to win as the rebels but going all the way to the third section didn't happen much. I'm very curious to see what has changed since then. Could it perhaps just be due to the freshness of it all and people are still learning how to properly take the walkers out?

Either way I'm curious to see what's been changed as I've seen "rebels always lose" a lot over the last couple hours.

I just can't get over how immersive this game is. The sounds, the look, and the overall feel is more Star Wars than any other game I've played before.

I don't think it would be too hard to balance. All they need to do is adjust the time it takes for bombers to come in or reduce walker health some, it'll take some tweaking but this weekend will help get that sorted out.

How's collision on the evironment? I heard some issues with it from people who played the E3 build, any issues on-foot or while in aircraft?

I believe this kind of game is what Visceral is working on next (single player star wars), with the same Frostbite engine I would guess.

I think the Rebels won like twice out of probably about 10 games that I have played. I, of course, was on the Imperial side both of those times.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.

Well people need to understand they didn't had much time to develop this game. They wanted to get the game out at the same time as the new movie.

But now since they have the fantastic sound design and graphics hopefully they will do more with the sequel such as space battles and other stuff.

I was surprised how good the PS4 versions looks. Damn!

I played a few rounds of each mode and it's really fun! I enjoy how fast paced and 'arcadey' the game feels.

I AM AWAITED IN VALHALLA

Found what must be a bug. In one match I use up all my 10 shield powerups.

The next match starts and it says I have ten again. But I try to use it and it doesnt work. It's not until I get a new "refill" that it replaces my 10 with a number 1, showing the one I picked up. Now I can use it.

It's possible to win if you're on the rebel team but it requires the entire team to be focused on the objectives/vehicles. (90mb gif warning on this link)

I lost count of how many times I won as a rebel, but it wasn't a whole lot. When you're playing with 19 randoms it's hard to coordinate most of the time.

Also, it feels amazing when a game is going perfectly for your team.

If anybody wants to watch some third person survival gameplay, here you go. It's kind of boring.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

Yeah I had that, except it showed 10 then dropped to 7 when I picked up a Charge icon.

Is anybody else having issues with spawn points? I keep spawning right next to enemies and getting killed within a second or so...

I also hope they manage to nerf the Empire as it's impossible to win as Rebels.

Other than that I am loving the game so far. Does anyone know if they'll have Premium/Season Pass for this too?

They absolutely nailed the atmosphere for this, it really feels like you're in a Star Wars battle. Lasers flying everywhere, fantastic sound effects, explosions... it all looks great.

Not sure I'm feeling this so far. It's taking a ton of hits to kill an enemy and I'm seemingly getting one-shotted. Maybe it's because I haven't unlocked much yet.

There's a lot happening on the battlefield. All sorts of heavy machinery is shooting at me and it's pretty much impossible to take cover because there's no prone.

Going to try again tomorrow, maybe I'm just too tired to play right now. I also know next to nothing about Star Wars, but I do intend on watching at some point. I've only seen The Phantom Menace.

I've noticed that it's easier to pinpoint your shots in third person view. I can't explain it, but as soon as I switched I started playing better.

Sticking close to teammates also helps a lot. There is a heavy emphasis on teamwork in this game.
