Black Ops 3 pre-orders are significantly higher than Advanced Warfare

Next year is IW's COD, in a year that returned love will be squandered again.

It sucks, because I'm already getting my hopes up. I'm thinking "Well they've got three years this time!" and "people hated Ghosts, they've got to understand that!" and "they merged with Neversoft, and Neversoft designed Extinction, there's got to be some talent there!"

I'll hold off final thoughts until we at least see some kind of reveal, but I really hope IW learns a thing or two from Treyarch. Ghosts was too subdued and generally boring. Laid on top of several poor design choices, and seeming too eager to cling onto IW's old legacy (why the hell do people like Ghost so much again?) while totally failing to live up to that legacy.

Ghosts wasn't without some decent ideas. Like I said, I think Extinction is a really nice Zombies alternative. Very fun, and refreshing to be able to actually beat it. They uh... they had that nice scope thing, where the edges around the scope were blurry rather than blacked out (a feature now in Black Ops III). The... um... the... the appearance customization was cool at the time, they could expand on that. Though PLEASE not like this. And uh... level interaction was neat, if very underutilized. There were some neat minor perks mixed into that whole perk mess. I never played it, but that Michael Myers dlc map seemed like an interesting idea. Kind of weird for Call of Duty though. Like... when has Michael Myers ever hunted down military operatives?

Anyway, they've got some big shoes to fill. Lets hope they haven't been jerking off for the past two years.

The franchise should just be left in the hands of Treyarch and only Treyarch.

They've been the most consistent of the 3 dev teams. Infinity Ward is a former shell of itself. I applaud Sledgehammer's effort last year, but that was a failed experiment. Treyarch is COD now.

I didn't realize a lot of people didn't enjoy Advanced Warfare. I liked it a lot .

I haven't played it, so I can't say, but it sounds to me like a solid game for a first effort. I mean, remember Treyarch's first few efforts? I think Sledgehammer has potential, they just need to learn from their mistakes.

I'd much rather buy DLC for BO3 than buy anything made by IW and SHG, especially Sledgehammer.

There's rumors going around with some CoD Youtubers that Treyarch plans on supporting BO3 for 2 years with DLC. Would be amazing.

I think that's actually a sensible decision. Activision should know by now that a chunk of the people who pick up the newest COD inevitably end up going back to the previous one for whatever reason. As long you've got people still playing that older game, why not make some new content for it if there are players willing to pay for it?

Kinda make sense really when you see how popular Black Ops 2 remains and even activision sees that treyarch or on their game well i would buy that second season pass in an instant.

Any links for this news?

He's been pretty spot on with stuff in the past. Got the whole early intel about the story plot and how the zombies would play out. I think it would be a great decision. Shows confidence in Treyarch and their game by Activision and would break the yearly cycle for more quality.

Thread worthy me thinks.

no difference from getting the game at gamestop and the code at the playstation store? or should i pick it up at gamestop too?

No difference. It all comes back to PS store eventually. I'm getting my Season Pass code from Best Buy (game too. You get $5 off the pass if you buy them together), but once I redeem it, it'll just be giving me the season pass on the PS store.

Call of Duty 3 and World at War feel like forever ago

Black Ops and the IW breakup changed everything

I still like World at War. Amazing atmosphere there. I'd love if it and the first two Black Ops's got remastered for a collection. Then maybe I could play the multi without hackers.

Wow.

Really shows that ATVI knows where the real power in the franchise is now :p

I hope this is a thing and we get more zombie stuff.

Good for BLOPS 3.

I guess I am in the minority that liked AW based on this thread. I enjoyed CoD 4 and previous entries, MW 2, and AW. The rest I never really enjoyed.

I will keep an eye out for reviews tomorrow.

Honestly if Black Ops 3 comes out and is amazing, which I think is highly likely... I wouldn't mind getting a Season Pass Year 2.

Agreed, but I wonder if it would lead to Activision losing money. I am assuming IW won't release next year.

People are aware that treyarch has been making the better cod games for quite a while now , + they were the first to do the zombies mode and such

The open beta was a good move as well.

I havent liked cod since blops 2 , AW was trash and ghosts was a catastrophy imo.

If they stay true to their ded servers and fix the mouse issues on pc i might buy this one.

Think about it like this though...

If there is no Call of Duty next year which would likely sell less because of the fact that they have been selling lower outside Black Ops...

Then they could just advertise the fuck out a Season Pass 2 for Black Ops 3 and just get the players of BO3 to hop onto that.

I wouldn't be surprised if they took a year off in order to give IW more time to get their shit together. Ghosts did a lot of damage to the franchise in terms of sales and mindshare didn't it? They probably don't want it to happen again now that BLOPS3 is finally recovering that

random, but how do I put something in my sig? No idea how to edit it, would like to put my psn

I don't think Neogaf supports signatures (as in, the ones that go beneath your post). If you mean the member tag, that's kind of a status thing (usually earned by doing something dumb that the mods won't let you live down).

Your best bet is to go to the Control Panel (upper left), and go to Edit Your Details, and filling in your PSN there. That way people will be able to see it if they go to your profile.

A bit off topic here, but does anyone know when the reviews will start to come in for this?

Can't believe I'm actually hyped for a CoD game!

Sledgehammer and Treyarch both hinted a WWII return is possible, and there's also a chance they'll just make Modern Warfare 4. They replaced the studio head and started hiring from Respawn and Naughty Dog, so they know they need to shore up talent in the studio. They might just be trying to do what franchises like Assassin's creed did last generation: introduce a game with lots of new ideas, then iterate on it with a much improved sequel.

Because there's a lot Ghosts introduced that players expect from the series now going forward, outside of the depth of field scoping, appearance customization, and map killstreaks you pointed out. They brought female soldiers into the game, guns with integrated attachments, the slide, enemy position callouts, widescreen radar, and shooting while sprinting. There's also innovations the sequels don't have like the tactical lean, the unique killmarker, the mini-leaderboard on the HUD, and team-based scorestreaks.

I get that the open maps were too difficult for casuals and too slow for pubstars. But for people in the middle, like me, it's the last time in six years that we had a more thoughtful and methodical Call of Duty. I mentioned in another thread that I'm glad Treyarch is back but I know their small maps are going to get repetitive. So yeah call me crazy but I'm not at all scared of what we might get next year.

This is exactly what the series needs.
