Well, it's obviously not Silent Hills, but I don't need the name, I just want a horror game by Kojima, Del Toro and Junji Ito. Can be called "Circumcision" for all I care

PlayStation exclusive is sucky. And I can't help but feel that the general vibe in this thread would be very different if the deal was with Microsoft instead.

Well, first of all there wouldn't be a PC release on the table (or even discussed) if Microsoft was involved. Also, he's Japanese and something something culture shot themselves in the foot and so forth. Most of his fans are on PlayStation since his biggest games have been more or less exclusive.

Wow, amazing news. I love that logo. I am pretty much in for whatever Kojima does in the future. Congrats on the new Studio and Good luck Kojima!

I think Kojima partnering with Sony is the best outcome. Focus on one platform, get the creative and financial support from a Publisher known to bet on risky projects.

No reason to be upset.

Hopefully his ballooning costs per game don't put Sony under..

Seriously though, I actually hope his next game is littered with Fuck Konami Easter eggs and that Geoff Keighly gets a cameo as an NPC.

Q18. Which company will publish the first title?
SCE will be the publisher.

Q19. Will the title’s copyright belong to SCE?
We have nothing to announce at this point in time. We will announce further details when ready.

So if this ends to be a Sony IP published by Sony on PC, and Everybody's Gone to the Rapture gets confirmed, we are definitely seeing a trend here.

PC won't go anywhere ever. Sony's aim however is as-much-as-possible a one console future.

It's called expanding by eating into the Xbox share.
Fighting PC is just stupid.

Doesn't matter whether PC is here to stay or not.

It's important to get PC base to buy a PS4 and buy games there, not necessarily converting, by proposing a compelling exclusive library, same with Xbox, there's not much distinction.

Maybe him going independent and with Sony to start with is for the best.

Yeah I think so as well. The thing is that bigger 3rd party publishers usually have a different agenda compared to the developers: a certain profit needs to be made. Same goes for 1st party (and 2nd 'exclusive' party) studios that fall under Sony and Microsoft's umbrella's, but they have the luxury that they represent the Playstation / Xbox brand, which often enables more 'prestige' projects (regarding tech, development time, etc). assumptions ofcourse, but if Kojima already has something in mind that he wants to develop, he had two options:

- building up a completely independent studio, with a publisher that would give him the budget he needs and free reign (unlikely)
- partnering with a console developer who will fund his plan in exchange for a certain amount of exclusivity.

If Sony have agreed to publish this on the PC too I bet this is some kind of sprawling online warfare..., thing.

While, of course, it won't be Kojima's "when you die in the game you have to buy a new copy of the game" idea I can see it being heavily influenced by that 'mortal' thinking.

Something MGS esque but on the scale of Battlefield or even Planetside with 'dat Kojima touch' across the PS4 and PC platforms could be really exciting.

I knew that, why are japanese peaple so bond to their country? Kojima had already shown no interest at all in developing games for foreign platforms with all of his games, i hope they'll support PC at least

Could it be, that they deny it being linked to those franchises just to be on the safe side legally, or am I just grasping at straws in hope of getting a spiritual successor to PT?

He legally cannot use those franchises. Can only hope for spiritual successors.

I hope the graphics won't suck. From what I saw in VR games, most of them sucked in graphics. They are within the PS2 level. After expecting sth like Silent Hills concept trailer level or at least P.T level to only get PS2 level will be really disappointing.

No. It will be something completely new.
“Silent Hill” is a title from Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd.

Sounds more like they're denying any connection to the franchise I.P., rather than a potential spiritual successor.

Just seeing this news, amazing. I can fully support Hideo again without feeling guilty about it. Can't wait to see what this brings.

Would not have called this personally, but it does make a lot of sense I guess. Kojima's primary fanbase is overwhelmingly skewed towards the Playstation userbase, so if he had to strike a deal with any first party this is the only one that would make sense. Needs of the many etc.

It's kind of funny to look back at the start of this gen now with this news. Anyone else remember when Larry Hyrb announced MGSV as an Xbone exclusive? Fun times :)

Also, lmao at all the salty posts itt.

I'll be excited if the game actually delivers, whatever it is, in the end. Right now it's nothing and could end up being Devils Third quality. Expectations are limited.

So I read it as if this game does well it will become a franchise that Sony will produce and allow on the PC as well?

Uhh, did we really need confirmation that it's not Silent Hills ? Who honestly believed that?

There is nothing stopping them from making a spiritual successor to it though, just don't use any of the established characters and places, and they're fine.

Lol. Well at least they addressed it!

Yeah, it's obvious he can't, but my question was if it could be also a reason for denying it to be linked to them in any way, like a spiritual successor to PT would be?
