Both franchises are at their absolute lows right now, so it doesn't mean as much as it did a decade ago lol

Hmm.
I literally know nothing about this game and it would be STUPID to judge it based on such a harmless fact.
But two negative thoughts came to my mind. I think PM is best when it uses its own original villains (Grodus/Shadow Queen, Count Bleck/Dimentio), and I would hate for the boss fights of every world to just be the Koopa Kids.
That said, YES PAPER MARIO! Fingers crossed that it is good!
EDIT: OOHHH Koopa KIDS! Not KoopaLINGS! That my friends is IN FACT a different story!

Interesting, so we are getting a Paper Mario game, despite the fact Intelligent Systems is very busy with the FE 3DS game?
Not that I think about it......Treehouse is handling the translation on that, so that gives IS time to make another game (Code Named Steam finished development early last year and FE Fates came out last summer in JP) and we are due for a new Paper Mario on consoles.
My question is if this upcoming Paper Mario is a summer game, or if its being moved to the NX this fall as a cross-gen launch game. That way 3D Mario could be pushed to spring 2017 and give that more polish (linking to the recent news that Nintendo is hiring level designers).
Interested to see what comes out of this but I hope the game is a return to TTYD formula instead of what Sicker Star and Super Paper Mario pulled.

so Paper Jam came out today? I think there'll be a Direct on Tuesday, and Trinen will be all "as you may know a new game with Paper Mario came out last week..." and then segway into the reveal. new Starfox release date, maybe a Zelda teaser, and some info about when we'll get real info about the NX? 20 minute direct?

This. THIS is what I'm thinking too; game started life as a late-life GC game but moved into a launch window Wii title.
Could easily see this happening with this rumored Paper Mario.

I'm down for more Paper Mario though. Is it too much to hope that Nintendo releasing Superstar Saga, then Super Mario RPG, on the Virtual Console, then putting that Geno costume into Smash, might mean a Geno appearance in the new game?
Also I love all the people popping in just to say this has to release on the NX, as if there's never been any late-release software on any hardware before. C'mon guys.

Sticker Star is really nowhere near as bad as a lot of you guys make it out to be. It's the worst paper mario sure, and it's definitely not what a lot of fans wanted from the series, but it really isn't a bad game

I like the battle system of the M&L series more, but the Paper Marios...especially the first....have a nicer world and a different tone.
PM 1 is an absolute classic, hope we get something equally good on WiiU.
Looks like the initial reactions of this are more like "oh ok, cool... but please don't be like Sticker Star" Looks like Sticker Star seriously affected the reputation of this franchise.

I just can't help shake the feeling that this paper outing is going to be something of a filler job like Paper Jam seemed to be for the M&L series.

I'm pretty sure his absence is part of why we got Super Paper Mario, which was much more in love with its jokes than actually playing better than a stock platforming engine. To me, they were basically told to stop that shit and make something utterly simply Mario after that.

I wish I could give a crap, but I haven't really cared that much about Paper Mario since the first one. Even TTYD was mostly meh from a gameplay/exploration perspective even if the atmospheres, story, and characters were great.
So, I guess it's great to see another Wii U game come out that I feel like I can pass on this year? More money to spend on PS4/NX.

This thread made me realize that we have somehow gone through TWO console generations with Wii Remote controllers and yet no Luigi's Mansion game utilizing them. What the fuck.

Come to think of it, Paper Jam being homogenized into the "no original characters" state ala Sticker Star doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in this.

Goddamn. Sticker star looked incredible on its own. I can't wait to see how they realize the paper aesthetic on Wii U. Man.
I'd love to have something akin to that. Easily possible on Wii U hardware (although the AA wont be that good)
