Hitman beta opens to PS+ members on 4th March

Been playing the two training levels at my brother's place and I really like it. It's already so much more true to Hitman than Absolution ever was. And except for some stutters during camera rotation it seems higher than 30fps and more close to 60fps,or am I wrong? It sure feels like that.

I like how it's looking and I hope Xbox One's version is close to this as well, because I'd really like that and that's the version I'm getting.

If I've never played a Hitman game, where's the best place to step in? I'm assuming not this beta.

Tbh I would say the beta is a pretty good starting point considering it's basically a tutorial and it's got the most "modern" gameplay feel.

Blood Money is the most highly regarded of the series, and it's not too outdated so you could start there as well.

For anyone interested, I'll be tackling the performance and Face-off DF content for the game. Very curious to see how it fares as the beta is...not good.

People saying it ran mostly around 60fps need to get their eyes checked. The snowy intro was almost 60 without a hitch... And that's it. The rest was mostly around 30fps and sometimes went down to probably around 17-20fps (especially on the deck).
Some nasty pop ins and terrible streaming during the cutscenes.

I'm glad I pre-ordered the full physical release, IO will have half a year to finish their game. ;)

Hoping they have a 30 FPS lock option and fix all the performance issues the beta had.

I really enjoyed the beta overall, especially after the shitshow that was Absolution.

Something really funny happened to me while I was playing last night. I was tracking the "Sparrow" (on how he likes to call himself), and I decided to put poison in his glass of whine during the second playthrough of the training area. Everything went well: I've put successfully the poison rat in his glass, he drank it without noticing me, and then got a sudden urge to go to the bathroom ! I then followed him. There's always a bodygard following him, everytime he goes to the bathroom, he would guard the toilet until the "Sparrow" finishes his "bussiness". Well, when I followed my target, I was able to get past the guard, follow the sparrow inside the toilet and assist to the most funny thing ever!

The "Sparrow" was throwing up in the toilet and I saw before starting the mission that you could drown him with his face right down into the toilet, so I did just that ! But something went wrong, because it was just me and him in the toilet, but as soon as I drowned him, the ragdoll of the body must have clipped through one of the wall of the toilet and some lady saw the body (probably because a limb or something went through the wall) and started to alert the whole ship. People started screaming, crying and people were about to investigate the scene of the crime, but I couldn't get out of the toilet because of the guard XD ! So, I hid in the closet and waited until things calmed down...

...but then a guy entered the room, saw the body, investigated the corpsed, opened a bodybag and tried to pulled the body out of the room... but remember that the body ragdoll was still stuck in the wall, so the guy was pulling the bodybag outside the room and went away, all the while the bodybag started to get stuck in the corner of the room wiith one of the best jiggle physics I have ever saw in my gamer life !

After a while, everybody went suspicious and I tried to make my way outside, but the guard outside still saw me and I died after a few shots in the back lol... oh well, good buggy glitchy experience there !

I see Wonder Woman sent her plane in for a checkup.

Yeah, I have that on my Download List. So, Hitman 2, yeah?

TBH, Hitman 2 isn't really the best game to get into the series with. It's a great game, don't get me wrong, but it's far more unforgiving than the later entries. I would seriously say to either play Blood Money or the new game that comes out this Friday. This isn't to say H2:SA isn't worth your time, far from it...it's more along the lines of the fact that the game can get REALLY frustrating and turn you off from what is an excellent series.

I don't know who's doing the OT, but if it isn't either one of the following I'm going on a hunger strike:

Hitman |OT| The best there is, the best there was, the best there ever will be

Hitman |OT| The Excellence of Execution

Well, if we're offering up suggestions...

Hitman |OT| Absolved

Hitman |OT| All killer, no filler

Hitman |OT| More hitman than miss, man

Hitman |OT| How to survive a character assassination

Hitman |OT| Baller

Hitman |OT| Business as usual... and business is good

Hitman |OT| Perfectly executed

Hitman |OT| Lethal in small doses

Loved the old games. Enjoyed Absolution for what it was. Not really feeling this to be honest. Graphically, it hardly looks any better than Absolution did, but rather looks worse. Baffling given that game came out almost 4 years ago.

Hoping for the best, but will be holding out till the full game is out for a while. There are definitely other games that would take priority for me right now.

Best wishes.

That's probably because they don't have an art director as the project lead, so they're not blowing the budget on graphics over and above everything else.

Not particularly interested in Hitman, not my type of game.
But I would have tried the beta were it not for the fact that it would stay on my download list forever.
Can't have that, my eyes bleed every time I see Evolve and Battleborn in there.

+1. This is pretty damn annoying.

Does anyone know why this is apparently so difficult to fix?

It was in the training area (not the ship) where I thought it seemed higher than 30fps,but I guess I'm wrong then.

Surely this has been asked before, but how many missions are there when it releases this week?

Not sure about missions (I think we get two per location, though don't quote me on that) but we're definitely getting two locations: the tutorial area and Paris.

Originally? They claimed two missions per location. As of Friday, they have confirmed this changed, so I imagine the amount of levels will now depend on the area. Sapienza looks to be getting two missions.

So, here's what you're getting at launch, for sure.

- The Prologue and all of the missions it contains (2.5 missions, really)
- The Showstopper (apparently the only main mission for Paris)
- The Director (a PS4-exclusive hit, presumably also set in Paris)

There are also some confusion reports that there will be now be seven episodes for the game. Most reports until recently, even from Square-Enix, have mentioned six.

This game is confusing to follow..

So Hitman vets quick question - I dont like the default setting of having an objective marker show up everytime I listen to a conversation. I dont like the game telling me what to do.

So what settings do you recommend I turn off to have the true original Hitman experience?
Is the game designed well enough that one can figure out what to do without any marker or would it become too frustrating?

If they keep it the same as the beta, the game asks you to press a button to follow the "lead", which then prompts you on what you should be doing next. You can probably turn them off or just ignore them.

You can figure out what to do by listening to conversations and having a good understanding of the game mechanics but there WILL be some trial and error just as it was in the old games. Some requiring reloading old saves unless you want to shoot your way out.

If this frustrates you, then this game might not be your cup o' tea.

There's an option to turn Opportunity markers off. It'll still tell you (in the beta, at least) that you're listening to an Opportunity conversation, but that's all. You're on your own after that. I'd probably turn Instinct off too.

Hitman has always been about trial and error. You can work out how to do hits by being observant; scope out the level and look at everything you can interact with. Ask yourself: what do I want? What have I got? how can I use the latter to get the former? Boom. Someone gets a piano on the head.

Working out ingenious ways to murder people is my favourite thing about the series. It's damn satisfying.

It'll be hard to say since this is just the tutorial and the main areas look HUGE, so it might be more overwhelming. But personally I'm turning off basically everything in the HUD aside from the minimap. If you look at the game as a puzzle sandbox then I don't think it'll be too frustrating, though you'll have a lot of sloppy runs. Slowly piecing together the working cogs in each level is my favorite part of these games though.

For reference, other Hitman games basically put all the info on the map while tying the information given to you by difficulty. Since this had no options for that it might automatically take a lot of those options off when it's selectable.

Thank you! Yeah turning of instinct and opportunity markers then. Excited for this game!

Trying to decide between PC and PS4. It will obviously perform better on PC because I have a 970, but I'm torn because of the PS4 exclusive content. How much extra content will we get on PS4?

Thanks. I'll ask this since it's been forever since I've played a Hitman game, but how much game play would you guess that to be time wise? I realize there is no exact way of knowing, just wondering if someone might have a decent guess.

It depends on how many ways there are to kill them, I guess. Hitman games are a tough one to put a time on given their sandbox/puzzle nature.

You could maybe work out and execute a standard hit in, I dunno, 20-30 minutes maybe? Though given there are usually multiple ways to whack someone...

That's a tough question! :D

This. It can take minutes to kill someone if you became Max Payne, and perhaps triple that amount even trying stealthy methods.

I assume The Director mission will emphasize places in the museum that The Showstopper kind of does nothing with, at least from its Alpha state.
Much of the second floor has nothing happening in it during Showstopper's Alpha build.

I appreciate it. I figured it was tough to put a number on. Just trying to get as much info as I can in trying to decide which platform to purchase it on.

Yeah, exactly.

Aren't there
two targets
in Showstopper. I thought the second floor was for the
secret IAGO meetimg
or something? Has that been cut?

Problem is, there is a lot of replay value in these games: suit only, silent assassin, the various accidents, sniping, guns blazing, specific costume/weapon runs, Contract missions etc. You're limited by your imagination and what the developers provide (which, given the beta and the size of Showstopper, could be a lot).

That's the third floor, IIRC. And she's still a target.

I think it you were to just play each mission once and never going back to try different assassination methods, then you might get a few hours out of the extra content.

If you explore every possible option from each mission you could easily get another 10+ hours out of it.

So it really depends on how much you want to mess around.

Adding to what the others have said, I have played a lot the beta, for the mere reason of finding new ways to kill the targets. And that was just the intro, without even doing the challenges. It's addicting, I like it even more than Blood Money, but that might be just because I haven't touched that game in a long time.

I hope they add a point system, because that's going to even push the replayability, to compete with friends and all.

random thoughts of episodic games:

shouldn't we be "rewarded" for going all in up front and essentially preordering most of the game, by getting a slight discount? $55 for the full season, say

instead of being punished for buying it an episode at a time, and ending up paying $65

i'd be much more willing to pay $55 day one for all the unreleased episodes. and then if i pay piecemeal, it should total up to a full game. $60

Oh and here I thought PS4 was getting the training missions exclusively. Good Xbox is getting them too. But to be honest I expected more for the launch. Only one real location for a mission doesn't sound like a lot. It's probably best to wait for reviews and see what they say about it. The reviews, when do they come?

A damn shame about Contracts mode though, at least keep that a timed exclusive then. Sigh.

They're probably going to feed a few Elusive Targets to the Paris show, and there's nothing saying other areas don't get more missions. I think Sapienza has two missions in it, minimum. The Season trailer kind of implied that.

As for reviews, I imagine they're coming this week. The question is when.

Have they said if anything from the beta will carry over? I'm assuming no.

Also I preordered the intro pack from PSN, I won't miss out on anything will I? Assuming I don't purchase each additional location when they release (but I will).

Completely forgot how they're releasing the content and when etc.

Nope, everything resets. The challenges you had from the original beta weekend were wiped with the test last weekend, actually.

As far as what releases on 3/11, you'll get all the same stuff in the intro pack that people buying the full experience will get. After that if you want the additional locations they'll be another $10/ea, releasing monthly. At this time there are no added bonuses or early access or any other perks for getting the full experience except for the fact that after the season is finished you will have saved I think $5 by buying the full experience up front.

That said, people are saying it's 7 updates now instead of 6, which would mean you'd save $15 instead of $5 by buying in early.
