I don't know how many games will support this in the long run.

Shooters most likely won't because PC players would slaughter console players

MMO's probably will happen assuming MS softens their stance on paywalls there

Sports titles, particularly EA ones are probably going to jump on this

Shooters that are played on Consoles are very different than Pc shooters these days.

Pc is all about F2P (Crossfire, TF2....) and CS.

Consoles is all about Cod, SW, Gears, Halo and probably Titanfall.

One game it could work is Battlefield, seems to be popular on both but good pc players would have the advantage so I see Ps4 and Xbox only in that case.

Honestly this probably helps ms in this case when more people are on ps4 to be able to say you won't lose playing with friends if you prefer the Xbox one (or the PC).

Yes, this seems to be an example case of where the walled garden strategy was not serving to keep existing customers locked in, but was working to ensure those who were not customers were locked out from becoming customers in the first place.

I think some people are confused here.
They are talking about a cross-play option on games (as Rocket League, etc...) but with the toggle to play only against XB Live users only.

FF XIV, DD Online, DQ X, for example are a different history,,,

Well, ain't that something.

Your move, Sony.

EDIT: Clarifying -
Yeah, they always said it would be ok by them. But of course nothing have ever been implemented to this day, theoretically thanks to Microsoft's close-minded approach.

I'm just saying all they need is to lit the green light now, there's nothing in their way anymore. And then we're GO.

I'm referring specifically about X1/PS4 crossplay. Of course Sony has been one step ahead with PS4/PC since the beginning of this gen.

This is big news for games like Destiny and The Division moving forward. It could save people a ton of time instead of having to play the game on two consoles.

Now for PS to follow suit

Why do people keep saying this? Sony hasn't been against it. That's why YoshiP (FFXIV producer) has been saying that ball is in Microsoft's court as far as if the game will ever come to the Xbox One because they have to allow cross-platform play between the Xbox One and the PS4/PC. Dragon Quest X was also announced for the PS4, which means it's going to have cross-platform play between it and Nintendo platforms as well as the PC.

I notice everyone keeps bringing up big AAA third-party titles (like CoD/Battlefield/Destiny) but, this seems to me like it's clearly only meant for id@xbox games. Like, why else would it be specifically Chris Charla announcing it under the title "ID@Xbox Updates?"

It's still cool, and all, but, not so sure it means all third-party games from big publishers can do this, yet.

Right, I think everyone is getting excited at the fact that this is just a first stepping stone. It can potentially mean this will happen at some point with bigger AAA games. Time will tell, but good news is good news nonetheless.

Fucking finally. It's been great on PS4 and it's about time MS made this happen. I hope this means SE will put FFXIV on X1 now and more people can play it.

You know, it's fine for Xbox and Microsoft to allow this. The question is if Sony will allow it. I am still guessing Sony has equal say on cross platform multiplayer.

Welcome to the crossplay federation XBL!

Excellent news but will take some time for something like this to take off with AAA titles - might even be something that doesnt become a real thing til next generation (hope Im wrong). Really positive news - game devs are gonna love our demands in the near future ' Why isnt this game fully cross-play?' :p

First they bring most Xbone exclusives to PC, and now Cross-network play??

It's like they're staring me right in the face and asking "why do you even own an Xbox One anymore?"

And I don't have a good answer.

Is it April 1st already??

I honestly NEVER thought I'd see the day when Microsoft would start to open up their walled-garden. What a magical time to be alive.

Sony has always allowed it...it's why FF14 is on PS and not Xbox. They haven't had Xbox<-> PS interaction before but that was always because of Xbox's policy.

Yep, main reason why SFV was a PS4/PC exclusivity from what I heard. MS refused the XboxL/PSN interaction.

God damn this is huge. Probably the best move they have done in the past years.

Im so excited for this. Rocket League will be the first game to connect PS, Xbox, and PC players in one game.

I just need confirmation that they wont allow competitive shooters to have kb/m vs controller on PC vs console since that is unfair. If they confirm that this is a huge deal for me. Population in games will have much more longevity.
