This has to connect with the cliffhanger from GOWIII. Kratos washes up in a different realm untouched by the Ancient Greeks.

The franchise is called 'God of War',not Kratos' gory adventures.
If this rumour is true,Týr should be the new main character(unless a brand new character kills him and earns the title of god of war)
Anyway, kratos fighting against the norse gods would be ridiculous.

It's a really interesting mythology and the series obviously needed a reboot with Kratos' story ending with GOW3.They need to move on to be creative.
My only doubt is that a nordic setting might limit the variety of environments to snowy/frosty cold places which I find a bit boring in games.
Can't wait to see the jaw dropping first footage anyway
running on PS4K
:p

It's been a loooong time since we've had a God of War game. I'm more than ready to give that franchise another 6-8 hours of my time. Great fun for what they are.

Smart move to ditch Kratos if true. The GOW franchise name has value, not the Kratos character. I'm pretty indifferent on the series now but a change in setting might pull me back in.
Who says they are ditching Kratos? It's just a new era/mythology.

Man, I hope this is true. I'm bored of the whole Kratos versus the Greek Gods thing.

I still haven't finished God of War II because I'm bored of it. III got boring after a while.

Maybe it's my depression, though. I loved God of War I when I rented it when it first came out, and really liked the first PSP game. Ascension was crap at the start, and really boring, but then it got better at 60% and on.

It was basically this or Egypt if they wanted to make the series few fresh again with a popular setting.

It's a good choice.

I'd be surprised. God of War probably has the most "I absolutely do not want to play as a woman in any circumstance ever." fans I have ever seen for a game series, and Ascension wasn't an especially great seller, so I'm imagining sensitivity to any potential saws road bumps.

Maybe if they let you choose your protagonist is the only way I'm imagining that happening.

I wouldn't be against it, but Kratos's body type - an exaggeration of the male biology, bar some close freaks of nature like Hafthor Bjornsson - I can imagine performing brutal acts of strength/violence. I could not, however, envision even the bulkiest valkyrie tearing someone's head off their shoulders or crushing a skull with their hands.

I'm willing to see what that would look like, it just seems like a larger leap of believability. Maybe if they inject some steampunk, it could be some kind of cyborg valkyrie who crushes bones with steam power, that'd be sick.

Kratos gets pulled across the rainbow bridge to Asgard at the end of III to help with Ragnarok. Kratos is mad that people wouldn't let him die and are trying to tell him what to do so he starts killing everyone instead of just the bad guys. Thor starts a rivalry with Kratos until Kratos kills him and takes Mjolnir near the last third of the game. Loki plot twist.

There's your game right there. Bring back Kratos, he's so lovably stupid and awful in every way.

They have to ditch Kratos for me. The character is simply not good enough for them to attempt to shoehorn him into another mythology. Leave him be.

Pretty much the perfect time to "reboot" the series with a new main character.

I mean, is it actually a God of War game if it's not Kratos AND not Greek mythology?

The whole premise was that Kratos takes Ares' place as the God of War with the ultimate goal of taking out Zeus.

If this is a new protagonist with new mythology then it's not actually a God of War game. Just make it a new IP at that point.

I'm not saying I'm not open to this, just I'd rather they didn't call it God of War. But if it's Kratos going after Norse gods? I'm in.

Okay how about this, game open with a crazy battle and you are Kratos and you're fucking shit up and just as you go to deliver the killing blow, some other person comes from out of nowhere and permanently murders the fuck out of Kratos where he won't be crawling out of hell again and you play as the new character from then on. Tada, pleases both crowds.

Not that it has really any chance of happening, but possibility of featuring Nariko as a Valkyrie?

0?

Negative?

A chance, maybe as an Easter egg?

/sigh

you're saying you can't even imagine that a fictional valkyrie in the hyptohetical setting of 'god of war 4' could be strong enough to crush a skull?

You need an awful garbage character for GoW to work, though. It's not exactly an intelligent concept, so they have fun with it.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees, gimme-gimme-gimme.

I'd be happy to play as Kratos again, but his story does feel beyond resolved at this point, so a new protagonist wouldn't be a bad thing either.

Most of the Nordic legends happened between 3th and 8th centuries AD. Kratos lived in golden age of Greek Mythology, roughly 1300 BC - 700 BC. If Kratos isn't an immortal lived over thousand years, then yeah, they are ditching him.

Knowing that Tyr is one handed, I hope Santa Monica takes this knowledge and show us a badass way of how he loses his arm. Maybe you as the protagonist chop it right off.

I don't think we should play Tyr, and possibly someone else who becomes a god and wages war on all the gods.

I feel like this is for the best. How many franchises have the ability to shake up their entire setting and story like this and still retain everything that worked? Honestly, you can have a new setting, new lead and new weapons and it is still God of War. I hope, if true, this leads into all kinds of new settings for the franchise.

What does their body size matter? They have superstrength.

If it's a new setting and a new protagonist, I would like it if they renamed each saga differently like God of War for Kratos/Greece, God of Ragnarok or whatever for the new protagonist etc. This being GOW4 feels the same as Black Fag being Assassin's Creed 4, just a bit anticlimatic.

that would be some intro, throw in a QTE so we can participate in wiping kratos the fuck out, i got a feeling a lot of people would like that.

I know enough about Norse mythology to be interested, but I don't know enough about Norse mythology to be excited yet.

I can picture it in my head, but I can picture an 8 foot tall 400+ pound dude being closer to the requirements to pull it off.

What does their body size matter? They have superstrength.

Kratos's super strength, before he became a god, was primarily due to his body size and muscle mass. He even got progressively more ripped as the series went on, and they slimmed him down for Ascension.

Have you seen Thor movies? You know enough. I am looking forward to the unknown and it excites me. God of War was my full on introduction to Greek mythology and I loved that they explored every inch of it that they could. I hope they do the same with Norse.
