No Mans Sky Fight Trailer Released, Taken down, up again VIA google cache.

I believe some people need to keep their hype in check and stay realistic. Hello Games still remains an Indie developer and did not have the manpower to put in full blown missions, huge RPG elements and character interaction like Mass Effect.

Who is saying this? I'm not sure I've seen this in this or any recent thread. Hello Games has said nothing to make people think this.

When it comes to multiplayer i hope its just what they have said so far: you can encounter another player. No friend lists, no way to communicate with each other, nothing of that should be in the game. Those things would really distract from the core experience of the game of being a lonely explorer.

I've watched a few trailer analysis videos of the fight trailer now and its pretty impressive the amount of massive ships in it that are different from others they have shown. So far the variety of different ships from all the different trailers has been good. Same with structures on the planets. I love that we have no idea what the purpose of many of them is.

And that one scene has over 50 ships in it at once. Thats pretty dope.

I also love how he pointed out those blue entrance ways like in the space stations on these freighters.

Hopefully that is a sign that you can land in them and they have interiors as well. Would be very cool.

Maybe... but since Sean said the bigger AI freighters will send down smaller ships to the surface, I'd guess it's just for that. I do wish we could eventually buy our own carrier ship and keep multiple smaller ships inside. But I guess that would've added a level of complexity they didn't want to deal with.

Yeah that would have been cool for sure. You never know what the future holds for this game though..

I hope ringed planets look like this from other planet surfaces in the game.

Will drop pants for Sony.
I think I may finally be at the point where I dread No Man's Sky threads in the same way I dread David Cage threads.

Just something about this game gets people really, really fucking angry. Nobody seems to understand anybody else's excitement or disinterest in the game, so the threads devolve into bickering about the most unimportant of nitpicks.

If the game doesn't interest you, it doesn't interest you. If the game interests you, it interests you. I've mentioned it in another thread, but when I was a kid (this would be in the 80's), I used to imagine a game where you could start on one planet, look up, and see another planet in the sky, then hop in your spaceship and fly to that other planet and explore. In my head, the game had like, maybe four or five planets that were massive, and you could just wander around and find weird creatures and ruins. I'd dream about that game. Talk about it with friends, and we'd have a great time imaging what a game like that could be like.

Fast forward, quite literally, thirty years. I'm 37 years old, and now a game like No Man's Sky exists. But instead of four or five massive planets I can visit in my starship, there are 18 QUINTILLION of them. More than I'll ever be able to visit in my lifetime. Some of them will be full of strange creatures and ruins. 7 year old me could only dream of this. 37 year old me, in just three short weeks, will actually be able to live it.

That's why I'm excited for No Man's Sky. That's why I don't give a flying fuck if there's aliasing, or pop in, or floaty combat, or arcadey ship controls. It's why I don't care that there aren't a thousand different jack of all trades, master of none gameplay mechanics, or a radiant quest system, or deep RPG mechanics, or cinematic cutscenes, or carefully designed set pieces. There are hundreds of games that do just that. There isn't a single game like No Man's Sky. If there was, I'd be playing it right now. So no, it may not be the game for you, and that's fine. But it sure as fuck is the game for me.

Internet high five. Heck make it ten.

I've read plenty of replies where people expect more of the combat and not having repetitive structured missions or planets. That won't happen. Keep your expectations in check is all I'm saying.

"so if you want the game to be aggressive and violent and quite tense then that’s the sort of game it will be, but there is a space in that game for something more profound, more interesting I think."

Nice social commentary on the state of current games.

Awesome post.

For the record, I had this 'decades later my dreams were realised' thing three times last year, with Dying Light (kid me wanted open world Resident Evil), MGSV (kid me wanted open world MGS) and The Witcher 3 (kid me wanted realistic, high-quality fantasy in a world so big I couldn't hold it all in my head).

I literally couldn't believe what I was experiencing for hundreds of hours last year. It was a totally surreal 'I'm experiencing my dreams' situation. What a time to be alive, eh?

Since this is the current active NMS thread (and I don't think this warrants its own), 65daysofstatic, the guys doing the OST, have released the cover art for their album "Music for an Infinite Universe."

It's beautiful.

Note that this is NOT the same release as the NMS OST, although it is born out of their NMS work, and there is some overlapping content. If you only care about the game OST then you can just buy that (they're calling it the Hello Games Edition), and not worry about Music for an Infinite Universe. But if you're a 65DOS fan too, you (like me) might want to pick up both!

Buyer's guide here: http://65daysofstatic.com/wordpress/2016/07/22/the-no-mans-sky-buying-guide/

To be fair even the most excited fans on here aren't expecting anything we haven't seen. Pondering whether we can dock with capital ships or go inside downed craft is expecting anything out of the realms of possibility - although it would be slightly disappointing if we couldn't, we'll soon forget when we see there's a new moon over the horizon to explore.

I think people expecting it to be easier to pair up with friends towards the centre may be slightly disappointed. Even if the centre was comprised of just one system, space is still really big.

And if you do indeed go to another galaxy upon reaching the centre, whoever made it there first would have to hang about, possibly for tens of hours which could get pretty boring. Not saying it won't happen but it's very, very unlikely.

They said if it's sci-fi, it will be in the game. Can definitely see that happening - looks great.

Applause. A quintillion times this.

Just the sensation of not knowing what is coming next is something I'm expecting to drive me through the game for months.

PC players...

How are you planning on controlling it? M+K, joystick or gamepad?
Has there been any mention of if there is joystick support?

I guess ideally I'd like to be M+K on planet surface and gamepad/joystick when flying.

Ill be using my DS4 to start. Things may change down the line. If the game really clicks with me and it is something I thoroughly enjoy, I will upgrade or move to whatever control method ideal. Like having a wheel and pedal setup for racing games.

Steam controller. Analog stick for movement and mousepad/touchpad for aiming.

Game pad. I like to play games on my Xbox controller if I can and as this doesnt require any twitch shooting or PVP, I dont need the precision of M+K. Also I want to play on my bigger TV.

I will probably be playing with a pad. We'll see how good the kb+m controls are though as I would prefer that way.

Dualshock 4 for me. The whole way. It doesn't look like the sort of gunplay where twitch-reactions from mouse will help you much.

No mention of joystick support but the PC version should be moddable to a fairly deep extent so hopefully someone can mod it in if required.

Steam Link + Steam Controller (if there are good profiles for it), or Steam Link + Xbox One/360 controller. This doesn't strike me as a game where 20ms of input lag would be a problem.

So are there any updated and clear previews that explain exactly what this game is? I'm freaking confused over here. Some questions:

1) Is the "universe" of the billions of planets uniquely generated for each player, or is it identical for everyone?

2) Can you alter the landscape or contents of a given planet?

3) If you can alter a planet, when I travel there in my game will I see those changes?

4) If the game ends up being too big for other players to randomly find each other, then how robust is the NPC faction system and combat system, to keep the action going?

5) Is there any way to coordinate with your friends to play together?

6) When/if you do play with friends, are you helping each other or are you at odds?

Well... it's a sci-fi survival sandbox. It's not a serious space sim and it's not Minecraft though it shows influences from both. Their biggest influence is clearly pulp science fiction stories and especially paperback cover art. Approach it with a sense of wonder and a desire to explore space and lots of different planets and you're likely to be rewarded; seek a lot of depth in any particular system and you'll probably be disappointed.
Some questions:
Some of these are concretely known already for sure, some aren't.
1) Is the "universe" of the billions of planets uniquely generated for each player, or is it identical for everyone?
Identical- it's all math.
2) Can you alter the landscape or contents of a given planet?
Mhm. Your multitool gets different additions that can do things like blow holes in rocks or the ground. Sean Murray indicates that you can use it to burrow into caves.
3) If you can alter a planet, when I travel there in my game will I see those changes?
Most likely not. Murray mentions that there's a priority system for what is propogated to the cloud, so very significant actions are persistent but more minor ones (which I would imagine to include modifying the geometry) will not be.
4) If the game ends up being too big for other players to randomly find each other, then how robust is the NPC faction system and combat system, to keep the action going?
No one knows that, and it is "too big"
5) Is there any way to coordinate with your friends to play together?

6) When/if you do play with friends, are you helping each other or are you at odds?
I really suggest considering this game "singleplayer with potential influence from other players." We don't know the full scope of multiplayer interaction by any means yet, but it's simply not going to be a game in which you hook up with friends for a play session.

You ordered the LE too?

I ordered it back in March as well. On the 11th not the 3rd. Actually surprised the LE was in stock.

I mean 3rd to the 11th is 8 full days. I was under the impression the LE sold out in a mere 2 to 3 days.

Depends entierly on where I'm playing and what's the easiest to use with the flight model.

I fully expected to go keyboard + mouse for Elite Dangerous but ended up swithing to gamepad and then later to joystick because mouse + keyboard simply didn't click for me with that game.

Also, I'll be switching between playing on a monitor behind a desk and playing on my tv from my couch, and I always use a gamepad when playing on my tv.

To put this in perspective, there are roughly 7.5 quintillion grains of sand in all the beaches and deserts of our planet combined.
Say if, to pull a number out of my gorgeously toned arse, 100 million people played this at once, that's 75 billion grains of sand per person.
Now, there's more than two planet's worth of sand grains. So 180 billion grains of sand per person.

Oh, and each grain of sand is the size of a planet.

Oh, and each one is floating about in a universe-sized cosmos.

So even if you and a friend were lucky enough to be deposited within your own share of planets, you're still looking at 180 billion to 1.

Pretty much. No one is saying it's impossible to meet a friend, just that it's going to take a LOT of work and coordination. It ultimately boils down to how intuitive the map is. Once we have the game in our hands, we'll be able to make a better assessment of planning meet ups. For me, personally, this game is a single player affair. The universe is unfathomably big in this game. It's not going to be a hop, skip, and a jump to find another player. Maybe a few million hop, skips, and jumps...

I'm rooting for the people that are going to try. I can't wait to watch the first meeting of two players on YouTube. I'm just not making that my aim for my game time. I'll be live streaming my adventures on YouTube, and posting my screenshots here in the Photo Thread I'll post next month. I'm already expecting I'll be spending way too much free time at work watching lets plays of this game while I wait to get home...

Ordered it as soon as possible :). Also had the normal copy preordered for over a year, but canceled it recently. Amazon restocked the LE a couple of times.

CANNOT WAIT

Awesome, love all of the RPG elements.

Keyboard and mouse. Unless they've made a mess of those controls, then I will play it with my Steam or 360 controller.

Thanks guys! And totally. I think maybe some people may take a game like this for granted, but I grew up playing pitfall and pac man. I always wanted games with greater complexity and scope, with outer space being the genre I felt never really had a game that captured the gradeur of it all. The same for an ocean game, where you explore the depths of the seas.

I can imagine that even when the gameplay mechanics get inevitably tedious and repetitive, just the idea that there's a planet out there, unseen by anyone, even Hello Games, with creatures, structures, wreckage, cave systems, and monoliths, is what will drive me to keep playing. I'll always be asking myself, "What ELSE is out there? Let's find out." I may take a break for a few weeks, months depending on the needs of everyday life, but I can easily see myself coming back over and over again to explore just that little bit more. Find one more crazy alien. Learn one more alien word. Find one more awesome ship, etc etc.

People with similar thoughts understand why that prospect is exciting. Other people won't think so, and that's ok.
